Portugal: One Day in Lisbon
It's our second day here in Lisbon and this time we have the whole day to explore this amazing city. First we are going to explore Baixa an elegant district, primarily constructed after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. The current grid pattern strongly differs from the organic streetplan that characterised the district before the earthquake. After that we are moving on to Alfama and take a ride with Tram 28. Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon, spreading on the slope between the São Jorge Castle and the Tejo river. The district contains many important historical attractions, as well as an abundance of Fado bars and restaurants. Overlooking Alfama is the mediaeval Castle of São Jorge which is offering the best views of the city.

Lisbon – Welcome to the capital of Portugal. Explore the hilly streets of this coastal city and take in the rich culture here. Check out the top spots to visit.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Lisbon:
From a Phoenician outpost to 16th-century trading giant, from the Great Earthquake of 1755 to its glorious reconstruction, #Lisbon has long been a city of shifting fortunes.
On a #visit to the waterfront, find the city’s grand gateway, Praça do Comércio. Pass beneath the triumphal arch, a tribute to the city’s reconstruction, and on to Rua Augusta to another of Lisbon’s great squares, the Rossio.
Climb aboard Tram 28, which passes some of the city’s most iconic sights, then climb the battlements of Castelo de São Jorge to see the red-tiled roofs of Lisbon spread out before you.
Although the Great Earthquake reduced much of Lisbon to rubble, the ancient suburb of Alfama was spared. Lose yourself amid the cobblestones, where cafes, bars and artisan shops have taken residence in the dockworkers’ homes of old.
A #vacation here will reward you with some of Europe’s most beautiful beaches.

Lisbon old town: Magical Alfama to Belém travel guide ✈????
It’s one of the oldest cities in Europe and offers wonderful glimpses into Portugal’s layers of time and influence – come with us on an adventure through Lisbon old town and highlights from the city's rich, colourful past.
In our vlog, filmed at Christmastime, we share itinerary and tips on what to see and do in 'Lisbon old town' (Alfama, Castelo and Graça) including cobbled streets and amazing views from Castelo de São Jorge, Largo das Portas do Sol and Miradouro da Senhora do Monte.
Rossio and Baixa are very central areas, also filled with Lisbon old town charm. Take a look through Lisbon’s riverfront gateway sitting below Alfama, with bustling trams, Elevador de Santa Justa and the pretty Praça do Comércio to name just a few top things to take in.
Bairro Alto and Chiado are particularly good for dining and nightlife. These areas are within easy walking distance of Rossio and Praça do Comércio – all of this is close together and simple to explore on foot.
Belém is a little further along the waterfront and overlooks the Ponte 25 de Abril (bridge); with its pastries, and historical gems like Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower on the banks of Tagus River, and Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument of the Discoveries) celebrating travellers from the Portuguese Age of Discovery - Belém is not to be missed.

LISBON: A City You Will Fall In Love With | Portugal Trip Part 1
Our massive Portugal road trip starts here in Lisbon, the capital and the largest city of the country. During our 4-day stay we explored the main tourist area near Praça do Comércio as well as the neighboring Alfama district, the oldest district of the city, with its steep, narrow, cobblestoned streets and charming atmosphere.
Next day we had some fun on the using the local public transportation as we visited Belém, an old district west of central Lisbon and a setting for many of the capital's most iconic and important tourist attractions, most importantly the Belém Tower which played an irreplaceable role in the Portuguese maritime discoveries.
We also found our way into the Lisbon's famous Mercado da Ribeira, considered one of the best places to eat in the city, serving some of the most typical dishes from the best local chefs.

Lisbon (Lisboa) - capital city of Portugal
An impression of Lisbon, Portugal. More videos of Lisbon:
Lisbon (Portuguese: Lisboa) is the capital and the largest city of Portugal. It is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries.
The city is rich in architecture; Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, Baroque, Modern and Postmodern constructions can be found all over Lisbon.
Its urban area extends beyond the city's administrative limits. About approximately 27% of the country's population live in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. The municipality of Lisbon includes 24 civil parishes ('frequesias').
Lisbon has a Mediterranean climate with mild, rainy winters and warm to hot, dry summers. The typical summer season lasts about four months, from June to September.
It is continental Europe's westernmost capital city and the only one along the Atlantic coast. Lisbon lies in the western Iberian Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean and the River Tagus.
DISTRICTS:
Alfama - the oldest district of Lisbon; it spreads down the southern slope from the Castle of São Jorge to the River Tagus.
Baixa Pombalina - downtown district; it is the heart of the city.
Chiado - a traditional shopping area that mixes old and modern commercial establishments, concentrated specially in the Rua do Carmo and the Rua Garrett.
Bairro Alto - upper district that functions as a residential, shopping, restaurant/bar/club area; it is the centre of a youth-oriented nightlife.
Belém - famous district from which many of the great Portuguese explorers set off on their voyages of discovery.
Parque das Nações - the newest district in Lisbon, having emerged from an urban renewal program leading to the World Exhibition of Lisbon 1998, also known as Expo'98.

10 Days in Portugal: Lisbon, Algarve, Cascais, Sintra, Porto | The Travel Intern
Some of you guys were asking about Portugal ever since our Destination Unknown: Portugal episode was out! Well, fret no more, here is a comprehensive 10-day itinerary you can follow when you head over to the beautiful country:
Culture, beautiful architecture and nature. Portugal is definitely Europe's best kept secrets.
LISBON
00:25 - Pasteis de Belem
Are you really in Portugal if you don't try a Portuguese egg tart? :-) We received so many recommendations from locals themselves to visit this place. It is actually one of the oldest Portuguese egg tart shops around!
00:33 - Belem Tower
00:36 - Jeronimos Monastery
These two sights are truly sights to behold. Learn more about the history of Lisbon here!
00:41 - Praco do Comercio
Kinda like the city hall area of Lisbon, locals and tourists alike gather here to window shop, watch buskers do their thangggg and simply just to chill.
00:47 - Santa Justa Lift
This lift was built in the past to ease the amount of stairs in the past, where you get to see a beautiful panoramic view of the city from the top! But remember that a lot of people want to head up there, so it's better to go during non-peak hours.
00:51 - Rua Nova do Carvalho
Known as the pink street of Lisbon, it used to be the area that housed the red light district of Lisbon in the past, but has since been converted to a home for cozy cafes and modern pubs and bars.
00:57 - The Sanctuary of Christ the King
A definite must-visit when you're in Portugal!
ALGARVE REGION
01:07 - Praia da Rocha
Amazing sunset views can be enjoyed from this beautiful beach. It does get pretty crowded, but there's always a space for everyone and anyone. :-)
01:13 - Wildwatch Tour — Benagil Cave
This boat tour includes a short kayaking session, one of the highlights is definitely kayaking into the Benagil Cave. It is known to be one of the most beautiful sea caves in the world!
01:30 - Pinhao Beach
Soak up some sun here, and navigate through cliff formations to get to different areas of the beach! Be careful of the tide level though.
CASCAIS & SINTRA
01:36 - Shoreline path of Cascais, Guincho Beach
If you're in Cascais, you definitely have to cycle along the popular shoreline path from downtown Cascais to Guincho Beach. The views you get of the shoreline are simply breathtaking.
01:44 - Pena Palace
Perched atop one of the highest points in the quaint city of Sintra, this palace was built and painted so colourfully so that it could grab everyone's attention no matter where you stood in Sintra.
01:50 - Moorish Castle
Built in the medieval times, the Moorish Castle served as a watchtower in the past.
01:55 - Quinta de Regalaria
It took us pretty long to find this place because it was nestled deep in the parks. But it was well worth it. There's just a mystical feel to it.
02:02 - Cabo da Roca
The westernmost point of Europe, here we have a lookout point with a beautiful lighthouse overlooking the ocean.
02:09 - Marisco na Praca
You can pick and choose from a seafood bar here, but be sure to try the seafood rice! It was our favourite.
PORTO
02:17 - Sao Bento Railway Station
Get introduced to the beautiful azulejo tiles of Porto at the railway station here!
02:23 - Cafe Santiago
Just like in Lisbon, are you really in Porto if you haven't tried the local delight, Francesinha?
02:30 - Porto Cathedral
Discover one of the city's oldest cathedrals, open to public to simply sight-see or join in their service.
02:37 - Palacio de Cristal
We highly recommend setting up a picnic here, and catching the sunset overlooking downtown Porto.
02:46 - Duoro Valley Day Tour
Go on a wine-tasting day tour to try different kinds of port wine! If you fancy sweeter-tasting wines, this is definitely the tour for you to take.
02:51 - Livariao Lello
This bookstore is said to have inspired JK Rowling to start on the Harry Potter series. There is an entrance fee and a long queue to get in though, so be prepared!
02:59 - Tile Making Tour
You'll get to see thousands of tiles lining the walls of buildings all across Porto, why not make your own too? Learn from a local in Porto!
03:03 - Ribeira Square
End your trip at one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Porto. The sunset here is also not to be missed!
Have you ever been to Portugal? And would you like to? Tell us! :-)
If you haven't already watched it, catch our Destination Unknown series' episode on Portugal, link to it at the end of the video! :-D

They will show you around and visit the must-sees like Alfama district, the famous Santa Justa elevator, the Praça do Comércio, the Lisboa Story Center and most importantly, the bathrooms. :)
This vibrant, charismatic place, with its seven beautiful hillsides, lies on both the Atlantic Ocean and the River Tagus coasts.
