Places to see in ( Lubeck - Gremany ) An der Obertrave
At the Obertrave is a street in the old town of Lübeck. The approximately 720 meter long street An der Obertrave is located in the southwest of the old town island in the Marien Quartier . It runs as a shore road along the Trave .
The road starts at Holstenbrücke at the meeting of Holstenstraße and An der Untertrave . It then runs south, following the curves of the Traveufer. Successively lead into the street from the east Pagönnienstraße , Small Petersgrube , Great Petersgrube , Depenau , Marlesgrube , Dankwartsgrube , Hartengrube , Effengrube and the Kleine Bauhof . The meeting with the small building yard not far from the Lübeck cathedral also represents the end of the Obertrave.
The present road on the Obertrave was not considered in earlier times as a continuous street and led no summary name. Only sections had their own names:
The section between Effengrube and Depenau is occupied in 1593 with the name Holzmarkt , as stored here by river boats transported firewood .
For the area between the Petersgruben and the Holstenbrücke 1578 the designation Soltenmarkede (salt market) is occupied, because at this place the river boats with the Lüneburger salt fastened.
The place at the confluence of the Small Building Court is documented in 1290 as Apud arborem superiorem (At the upper water tree), because in this place a floating barrier made of tree trunks locked off the approach to the harbor from the Trave ago.
It was not until 1884 that the street was grouped under the officially established and until today valid name An der Obertrave .
The street An der Obertrave was not affected by the devastation of the air raid on March 29, 1942 and therefore still has a largely closed picture of historical buildings. Listed as historical monument are the buildings An der Obertrave 6 to 8, 11 to 16, No. 20 (Ganghäuser in the hallway in the Reinfeld ), 23 to 25, 30, 36, No. 37 (ganghouses in Rehhagens corridor ) to 39, 41 to 44 , No. 46 ( Ganghäuser in Stüwes Gang ) to 49 and the houses 51 to 53.
The house number 19, front building of Im Reinfeld and historic townhouse of the monastery Reinfeld , was demolished in 1938 and replaced by the bunker An der Obertrave , which was camouflaged behind quite elaborate exterior forms, reminiscent of the previous building. The bunker, the reddish building between the white facades, still stands today.

The Historical Old Town is the historic center of Lübeck is the largest German and from expansion memorial area of the UNESCO World Heritage . It is located on a 100-hectare, surrounded by streams and the remains of the ramparts densely built island, which was included in the list of world heritage in late 1987 by UNESCO. This historic island between the Trave and the Elbe-Lübeck Canal is from the remains of the medieval city wall with the preserved city gates Burgtor and Holstentor and the early modern fortificationsand docks of the 19th century. The view of the old town is dominated by the Seven Towers .
The street view is characterized by numerous gabled houses from different eras, including the brick Gothic . Behind the gabled houses are typically the Lübeck corridors and courtyards. Today, the old town as a city center is one of the ten administrative districts of Lübeck. In the predominantly smaller houses of the old town live about 12,000 inhabitants.
The reestablishment of the city followed after a great town fire under Henry the Lion in 1159 on the peninsula Bucu between Trave and Wakenitz named after the Slavic castle located there . The medieval city planning for the new merchant town on the north-south direction about two kilometers measuring area was conceivably simple and highly efficient. From the castle gate in the north, a superordinated road to the south was carried out. In addition to the marketplace , two more squares were created on this route, the Koberg and the Klingenberg , between which the north-south route runs on two parallel streets, the Königstraßein the east and the width street in the west. From these streets, the subordinate developments referred to as Rippenstraßen go west and east, so that rectangular building blocks emerged. The city was initially protected by the surrounding water and a city wall of brick. The city is historically divided into four quarters . Today, this structure of the city into neighborhoods, which was effective until the 19th century, is meaningless and the terms associated with it have also become largely meaningless.
In the early modern period around Lübeck around a fortification plant was created, which made it one of the largest fortifications in northern Europe. These fortifications have been dismantled since the beginning of the 19th century in the course of the softening to the extent that the development of the port of Lübeck, the advent of the railway and industrialization made it necessary. The biggest topographic intervention was the construction of the Elbe-Lübeck Canal, which opened in 1900. The old town of Lübeck was turned from a peninsula to the island and the Wakenitz was dammed in her bed today. The fortifications also fell victim to the expansion of the port of Lübeck. The Trave and the moat were just in the area of the Northern Wall Peninsulaconsiderably widened to gain harbors for the emerging steamships. Even today, however, individual bastions in the Lübeck ramparts are clearly visible, especially in the section between the former Mühlentor and the Holstentor. For details of the urban development of Lübeck since the abolition of the gate barrier in 1864 see also the main article urban development of Lübeck since 1864 .
Lübeck's old town is historically divided into four quarters . At times, the houses were counted under the influence of the French administration. After the Lübeck French time , however, the road-related house numbers were reintroduced. For the purposes of reconstruction planning and urban redevelopment, the city was divided into their blocks, which were numbered and provided with consecutive numbers for the whole of the Old Town Island. They can be seen in Lübeck's cityscape image, which records all parcels cadastrally and graphically displays the views of all the buildings at the time of admission. Some of these blocks, mostly located in the more central parts of the shopping district, were rebuilt after World War IIBlock farms , in which the rear parts of the land were combined to form a uniform plot for the delivery of the neighboring plots. These block patios belong since then to the city and are managed by this.

Germany: Impressions of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck
The Hanseatic City of Lübeck is the second-largest city in Schleswig-Holstein, in northern Germany, and one of the major ports of Germany. Situated on the river Trave, it was for several centuries the capital of the Hanseatic League (Queen of the Hanse) and, because of its Brick Gothic architectural heritage, is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Much of the old town has kept a medieval appearance with old buildings and narrow streets. At one time the town could only be entered via any of four town gates, of which today two remain, the well-known Holstentor (1478) and the Burgtor (1444).
The old town centre is dominated by seven church steeples. The oldest are the Lübecker Dom (the city's cathedral) and the Marienkirche (Saint Mary's), both from the 13th and 14th centuries.

Places to see in ( Lubeck - Gremany ) An der Mauer
Places to see in ( Lubeck - Gremany ) An der Mauer
At the wall is a street of Lübeck's old town. The approximately 620 meter long street An der Mauer is located on the southeastern edge of the old town island. It begins at the mill road opposite the pattern railway and then runs in a northeasterly direction, from the west successively Düvekenstraße , Weberstraße and Stavenstraße . At the wall then the Crow Road crosses and runs from here to the north. After the intersection with Hüxstraße and Hüxterdamm An der Wall meets Fleischhauerstraße and ends there.
The road takes its name from its course directly at the the 13th century built city walls . Originally, the entire street on the eastern edge of the old town island from its inception on the mill road in the south to the terminus on the Kaiserstraße at the castle gate in the north, the name An der Mauer , interrupted by the not developed by a road section between Fleischhauer and Hundestrasse . It was not until 1884, the still valid restriction of the name on the southern part of the street set, while the northern received the new name Wakenitzmauer .
Until the almost complete demolition of the medieval city wall in 1853, the street was built only on the west side, mainly with modest houses because of the unattractive peripheral location in the shadow of the fortifications, while the east side of the wall and its towers was taken. Even after the demolition of the old fortifications, the eastern side remained sporadically built in the southern part of the present street.
