Anakie Gorge Staughton Vale Victoria Australia
Anakie Gorge is an ancient rock formation with geologists estimating its formation was over 500 million years ago! With this in mind, you can believe us when we say the views on this walk are nothing short of sensational.
Getting there: Located approximately an hours drive from Melbourne’s CBD, enter ‘Gorge Road, Staughton Vale, Victoria’ and look out for the Anakie Gorge Picnic Area
Anakie George and Stony Creek Victoria Australia
Come on a walk and see Anakie Gorge, and the Stony Creek picnic areas. For an added treat I have our dog Zac the Stafie along for the ride. Anakie Gorge is about 35 min drive from Geelong Victoria. It is great for picnic, and bush walks with the added bonus of a little history about Geelong. Free BBQ and tables, and a Long drop toilet for men and women. Stony Creek was simple and a little less busy than Anakie Gorge. It is better for those wanting to get away from it all.
Anakie Gorge short look about
Look about the Stony Creek Tunnels at Anakie Gorge and a contributory to the Gorge itself.

Leyland's Australia Episode 2: Rockhampton to Porcupine Gorge
Continuing their great caravanning safari around Australia, Mal, Laraine, Carmen and Robert travel west from Rockhampton to Porcupine Gorge near Hughenden in central Queensland. Along the way Carmen and Robert make their own didgeridoos then see how the experts play them. They go sapphire mining in Rubyvale, visit the little known Blackdown Tablelands, see some truly remarkable scenery and ancient Aboriginal bora grounds on Carisbrooke Station, take a four whell drive diversion along the Diamantina River, visit Opalton where the pioneering spirit survives as the driving force for today's opal miners, and descend the remarkable Gorge Australia's 'Little Grand Canyon'. Laraine shares some camp oven secrets for producing the perfect roast in the bush.

Spirit of the Outback - Part 3 - Blackwater to Anakie
We pull away from Blackwater past another mammoth coal train, branches diverge from the mainline to serve several colliery complexes, with less traffic using the line beyond Queensland’s central coal belt, a single track is sufficient from now on as the eucalyptus and gum trees give way to cotton fields, some of which have been harvested, the large bales waiting to be transported, other fields are ready for harvesting. The line follows the undulations of the land with little in the way of heavy engineering, other than the Comet River Bridge and low trestles over occasional water courses until we reach the Nogoa River, crossed on a substantial bridge to enter Emerald where we stop at the traditional station with its ornate canopy. Overhead line equipment is being installed to enable electric locomotives to operate services to the town and nearby coalmines.
After Emerald the railway takes on a more rural appearance, even the familiar clickety-clack of yesteryear can be heard as the modern long welded rails give way to jointed track on wooden sleepers, our progress has slowed as we pick our way along a route more suited to the less than daily service to Longreach, supplemented by stock, produce and maintenance trains as required. The Capricorn Highway with its fascinating succession of road trains is never far away, cotton production gives way to native trees, scrub and heath land, we are traversing the real outback, a strange desolate, yet in its own way a beautiful landscape. Take a seat and join me for this trip into the fabled Australian outback.
