ANANDA TEMPLE IN BAGAN (JOURNEY TO YANGON!!) | EP18
Join us as we take you inside the famous Ananda temple in Bagan, Myanmar. It was very busy but worth checking out if you ever visit Bagan.
Just keep in mind that security will ask to see your archaeological zone pass before entry.
After visiting this temple, Robyn and I sat outside near the front entrance and had sugar cane juice, freshly squeezed from the machine nearby.
After leaving the Ananda temple on our way back to our hotel to collect our bags, Robyn and I stumbled into the Mya Zedi Pagoda.
The only way I could confirm the name was with Maps.Me. A smartphone app which operates using crowd sourced data (other travellers) that contribute to the database (think Wikipedia) I highly recommend downloading Maps.Me (and the maps associated with Myanmar) before arriving! This will help you navigate Bagan so easily and help you find pagodas and temples.
We spent some time at the Mya Zedi pagoda before continuing on back to our hotel before getting something to eat at the Mingalarba restaurant (separate vlog). We eventually arrived back at our hotel, collected our bags, then departed for the airport. We would then catch our flight direct to Yangon :-)

Ananda Temple is a Buddhist temple built in 1091 during the reign of King Kyanzittha. It is located in Bagan, Myanmar. The name Ananda comes from the name of Buddha's cousin and personal secretary Venerable Ananda, although it was once known as Ananta Temple, coming from the phrase ananta pinya, which translates as 'endless wisdom'. The temple is built with adapted Indian architectural styles. The temple houses four standing Buddhas, which are adorned with gold leaf, with each facing a direction, from north to south. The temple is cruciform in shape, with several terraces leading to the top, which terminates with a small pagoda and an umbrella (hti). Along the sides of the terraces and the base of the temple are terra cotta tiles illustrating scenes from the Jataka. Also, there is a shrine of Kyanzittha and Shin Arahan.
The temple is also home to an annual festival that is held during the month of Pyahto (December to January).
