Anastasia State Park - St Augustine FL
We went to St Augustine to celebrate Rhonda's sister Janice's birthday and to get some Atlantic ocean beach time in. We spent our first night at a harvest host - documented in our previous video
Anastasia state park was very accommodating and let us in early.
St. Augustine a city on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Florida. Founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers, is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the continental United States.
It was the capital of the Spanish colony of Florida until 1819 (except for a 20 year period under England). When the us took it from Spain. If the streets of the old city could talk - the history they could tell.... pirates, Indian slaves, Spanish gold ... but no fountain of youth.
Anastasia Island, FL
Anastasia Island is a barrier island located off the northeast Atlantic coast of Florida in the United States. It sits east of St. Augustine, running north-south in a slightly southeastern direction to Matanzas Inlet. The island is about 14 miles (23 km) long[1][2] and an average of 1 mile in width. It is separated from the mainland by the Matanzas River, part of the Intracoastal waterway. Matanzas Bay, the body of water between the island and downtown St. Augustine, opens into St. Augustine Inlet.
Part of the island (the Davis Shores and Lighthouse Park neighborhoods) is within St. Augustine city limits, while other communities on the island include St. Augustine Beach, Coquina Gables, Butler Beach, Crescent Beach, and Treasure Beach.
Fort Matanzas National Monument, a Spanish colonial-era fort built in 1740–1742,[3] is located at the southern end of the island[4] on Rattlesnake Island in the Intracoastal waterway within the park boundaries;[5] it was designed to protect St. Augustine from attack via the Matanzas River.

Places to see in ( St. Augustine - USA )
Places to see in ( St. Augustine - USA )
St. Augustine is a city on the northeast coast of Florida. It lays claim to being the oldest city in the U.S., and is known for its Spanish colonial architecture as well as Atlantic Ocean beaches like sandy St. Augustine Beach and tranquil Crescent Beach. Anastasia State Park is a protected wildlife sanctuary. The Castillo de San Marcos is a 17th-century Spanish stone fortress with views of the St. Augustine Inlet.
St Augustine is a small jewel of a city on the east coast, full of romantic ambiance and old world charm. It is best known for its remarkable historic streets, Spanish style architecture, and panoramic bay. Do take time to wander down St. George street, a promenade of sorts, and enjoy the art galleries, quaint shops, and restaurants.
St. Augustine is best known as the oldest European settlement in the United States. Spanish explorer, Juan Ponce de Leon, claimed the land now known as Florida in the name of Spain on March 27, 1513. Originally the land was named La Florida, which means Land of Flowers. The city was founded by Spanish explorer Pedro Menendez de Aviles in 1565. What makes St Augustine so genuinely endearing is the accessibility of its rich history via countless top-notch museums and the authenticity of its centuries-old architecture, monuments and narrow cobbled lanes. Unlike Florida's numerous historical theme parks, St Augustine is the real deal.

Visiting The Oldest City In The U.S. ???????? | St. Augustine, Florida [4K]
••• SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL HERE: •••
Hello world! Another vlog! This time around, I had the pleasure of visiting the oldest city in the United States, Saint Augustine, Florida. Well, the oldest city in the sense that it has been permanently occupied since 1565; it’s the first european settlement. I know the native americans were there before, but that’s why they stress that it is the oldest continuously occupied city in the United States and no it’s not Jamestown nor Plymouth Rock. Those were founded in 1607 and 1620 respectively. Saint Augustine was founded in 1565 by the Spanish Admiral and Explorer, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés.
While there, we were able to appreciate the European influence on this Florida town. The Spanish influence is evident in the architecture throughout the city with its cobblestone streets, quaint cafes, bars, unique shops. We ended up having a nice lunch at the Taberna del Caballo located in the Colonial Quarter on St. George Street.
The main attraction on this short trip was Castillo de San Marcos. It is the oldest structure in St. Augustine and the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. It took 23 years to build the fort, and it was made of coquina, making it almost indestructible. It was first built to defend the Spaniards in the New World, but during the Revolutionary War, it was used as a military prison. The fort has had three different names in the past, Castillo de San Marcos was the original Spanish name, under English control the name was changed to Fort Saint Mark and finally when Florida became a U.S. territory the Americans called it Fort Marion. However, in 1942, Congress reverted the name back to the original “Castillo de San Marcos.” In 1924, the Castillo de San Marcos was recognized as a National Monument and preserved by the U.S. government.
Enjoy! Thanks for watching!

Saint Augustine, Florida - Downtown Historic District (2019)
St. Augustine (Spanish: San Agustín) is a city in the Southeastern United States, on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Florida. Founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers, it is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement within the borders of the continental United States.
The county seat of St. Johns County, St. Augustine is part of Florida's First Coast region and the Jacksonville metropolitan area. According to the 2010 census, the city's population was 12,975. The United States Census Bureau's 2013 estimate of the city's population was 13,679, while the urban area had a population of 71,379 in 2012.
St. Augustine was founded on September 8, 1565, by Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, Florida's first governor. He named the settlement San Agustín, as his ships bearing settlers, troops, and supplies from Spain had first sighted land in Florida eleven days earlier on August 28, the feast day of St. Augustine. The city served as the capital of Spanish Florida for over 200 years. It was designated as the capital of British East Florida when the colony was established in 1763 until it was ceded to Spain in 1783.
Spain ceded Florida to the United States in 1819, and St. Augustine was designated the capital of the Florida Territory upon ratification of the Adams–Onís Treaty in 1821. The Florida National Guard made the city its headquarters that same year. The territorial government moved and made Tallahassee the capital in 1824. Since the late 19th century, St. Augustine's distinct historical character has made the city a major tourist attraction.
