Anchuca (pronounced An-choo-ka) is a Choctaw Indian word meaning happy home. Anchuca is also an historic Greek Revival style home, located on First East Street, just off Cherry Street in Vicksburg, Mississippi, that was built in 1830. It's now a bed and breakfast.
The home's owner, Tom Pharr, stopped by to share a conversation (and some coffee) with guest host Robyn Lea. He discusses some of the delicacies in the restaurant at Anchuca, the origins of the some of it's unique decor and what you may find when you tour the home.

Vicksburg, Mississippi
Vicksburg is a city in and county seat of Warren County, Mississippi, United States. It is located 234 miles northwest of New Orleans on the Mississippi and Yazoo rivers, and 40 miles due west of Jackson, the state capital. It is located on the Mississippi River across from the state of Louisiana. Its southern border is formed by the Yazoo River.
The city has increased in population since 1900, when 14,834 people lived here. The population was 26,407 at the 2000 census. In 2010, it was designated as the principal city of a Micropolitan Statistical Area with a total population of 49,644. This MSA includes all of Warren County.

Soldiers returning to Vicksburg 5/19/2013
After the Battles of Champion Hill & Big Black River, the Union Army pushed the Confederate Army back into the Vicksburg Defenses. With the Confederate Army pouring back into Vicksburg, the citizens of Vicksburg now experienced the onslaught of what was to come. Emma Balfour living a few blocks from Court House Hill wrote in her diary: I hope never to witness again such a scene. From twelve o'clock until late in the night, the streets and roads were jammed with wagons, cannons, horses, men, mules, stock, sheep, everything you can imagine that appertains to an army being brought hurriedly within the entrenchment... What is to become of all the living things in this place -- God only knows. Dora Miller, living in the City of Vicksburg wrote in her diary as well saying, I shall never forget the woeful sight of a beaten, demoralized army that came rushing back, humanity in the last throes of endurance. Wan, hollow-eyed, ragged, footsore, bloody -- the men limped along unarmed but followed by siege guns, ambulances, gun carriages, and wagons in aimless confusion. At twilight two or three bands on the courthouse hill and other points began playing 'Dixie', 'Bonnie Blue Flag', and so on; and drums began to beat all about; I suppose they were rallying the scattered army.
On Sunday, May 19, 2013, 150 later, a drummer will once again call the Confederate troops as they return to Vicksburg after the 150th Battle of Champion Hill on Saturday, May 18, 2013, to rally at the Old Court House Hill.
