Whilst Living in Thailand we are trying to explore as much as possible. So when we saw that there was a 'Dictators Museum' in Chiang Rai (advertised in a wedding magazine) we had to check it out. Whether or not 'Baan Jompon Field Marshal P Pibulsongkram' was the home of a dictator or a national hero is unclear and most likely debatable, but walking around the cafe, house and grounds was a pleasant day out none the less. :-)

Vlog 032 - Jesada Technik Museum

We took a run out west on the King's Birthday holiday to a magical place called the Jesada Technik Museum. Jesada is a large private collection of vintage rare cars and motorbikes located in Nakom Pathom about fifty kilometers west from Bangkok. The museum was created by a successful Thai businessman named Jesada Deshsakulrith. His passion for automobile history and heritage led him to collect more than 500 vehicles, most of which are in perfect condition. He only started this surprising collection in 1997 and it finally opened to the public in 2007.

ANCIENT SIAM(The Ancient City) - The Museum - Thailand - Part 2

Ancient Siam (formerly known as Ancient City)(Thai: เมืองโบราณ, Mueang Boran) is a park constructed under the patronage of Lek Viriyaphant and spreading over 200 acres (0.81 km2) in the shape of Thailand. During his research he found most structures being severely damaged over time and decided instead of creating new miniatures to save the original structures when possible or re-creating them full size or scaled down.

Ancient Siam is dubbed as the world's largest outdoor museum. the 320-hectare city features 116 structures of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions. Some of the buildings are life-size replicas of existing or former sites, while others are scaled down.The replicas were constructed with the assistance of experts from the National Museum to ensure historical accuracy.

The admission fees for a foreigner would be 700Bhat/Adult. You need to use bicycles to travel around the park. Electric cars are available for those in need

Wat Umong Chiang Mai,Thailand

Wat Umong (complete name: Wat Umong Suan Puthatham) is a 700 year old Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is located against the mountains of Doi Suthep and is south of Chiang Mai University.

Wat Umong is unique in that the resident monks live in a very natural setting, and occasionally feed the deer that live in the area. There are tunnels with Buddhist images below the chedi which can be easily explored. Signs and saying hang from the trees on footpaths leading to the small lake where fish and turtles can be fed.
Of particular interest is an intact Ashoka Pillar similar to the one at at Sarnath Museum which has since been adopted as the National Emblem of India.
Note: There is a temple with a similar name within the old city moat of Chiang Mai, whose complete name is Wat Umong Maha Thera Chan.

Classic Cars at Mae Rim Orchid Farm near Chiang Mai

When you visit the Mae Rim Orchid Farm be sure and stop at the vintage car display as well. Although small, the vintage car collection consists of several different types of cars such as, Jaguar, Citroen and several makes of American cars. The men will appreciate this small collection of vintage cars as an added attraction at the Mae Rim Orchid Farm.

The Mae Rim Orchid Farm is a good place to take time to relax, enjoy lunch then walk through the orchids to admire the magnificent blooms of every shape and color.
