Take a tour of Historic Nessebar in Nessebar, Bulgaria - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The wonders of Nessebar, in Bulgaria, quickly become apparent to anyone walking through the historical district.
In fact, this city is also frequently known as the pearl of the Black Sea for its wonder and beauty.
There are many landmarks from the city's long and rich history, such as the eleventh-century Church of John the Baptist.
Nessebar is over three thousand years old and has been ruled by the Thracians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, and the Turks.
Each of these civilizations left some kind of mark here, whether it's a piece in a museum or a ruin in the city itself.
Rich in its past and in its beauty, Nessebar is a prime place to visit for anyone with an eye for history.
Sunny Beach & Nessebar,Bulgaria
Sunny Beach & Nessebar,Bulgaria
We visited Sunny Beach ,Bulgaria flying from Humberside airport on the 30th.May 2019 staying at the Arda Hotel on half board basic.
Sunny Beach has a very small permanent population, but during the summer the resort is home to many thousands of tourists. The main strip of high-rise hotels backing onto the beach is 5 km (3 mi) long and extends along a wide bay between Sveti Vlas and Nessebar, soon to connect with the village of Tunkovo.
The resort's construction began back in Communist times, in 1958. Construction work began at a site where there were two old wells that supplied Nessebar with water in ancient times and during the Middle Ages.
Nesebar (often transcribed as Nessebar and sometimes as Nesebur, Bulgarian: Несебър, pronounced [nɛˈsɛbɐr]) is an ancient city and one of the major seaside resorts on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, located in Burgas Province. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Nesebar Municipality. Often referred to as the Pearl of the Black Sea, Nesebar is a rich city-museum defined by more than three millennia of ever-changing history. The small city exists in two parts separated by a narrow man-made isthmus with the ancient part of the settlement on the peninsula (previously an island), and the more modern section (i.e. hotels, later development) on the mainland side. The older part bears evidence of occupation by a variety of different civilisations over the course of its existence.

Nessebar
Here's my video of Nessebar—an ancient city and one of the major seaside resorts on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. The Pearl of the Black Sea, is a rich city-museum defined by more than three millennia of ever-changing history.
The ruins of the 5th-century Church of St. Sofia include stone columns and large arched windows. The 11th-century Church of St. Stephen houses hundreds of mural paintings and a huge, richly decorated altarpiece.
A visit to the Movie Museum in Old Nessebar
The movie museum in Old Nessebar, Bulgaria, is pretty naff. Essentially its a single room with several manikins wearing outfits (which are more than likely just promotional items or fan collectables than you can purchase off the web, rather than the real thing). See my Trip Advisor review - You'll ask yourself - Where is the rest of the museum - is THAT it?
The backing music was developed using GarageBand with music loops ‘80s Synth FX Riser 02’, ‘Abstract Atmosphere 080’, ‘Ascension Arp 02’, ‘Ascension Arp 01’ and finally ‘Altered State Beat 02’. Any similarity to any other tune means that they have used the same GarageBand loops and try to claim ‘copyright theft’, which is completely false. However companies, such as ‘AdRev’, ‘Audiam’, ‘Believe Music’, ‘CD Baby’, ‘INgrooves’, ‘muzie’, ‘Proton LLC’, ’Rebeat Digital GmbH’, ’TuneCore’, ‘Zimbalam’ and the like, will obviously try to make multiple claims, often against a single musical GarageBand loop, for copyright theft. Just saying........ that's all.

NESSEBAR AND BURGAS TOUR (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE)
At the crossroads of culture, Nessebar was a starting line for many European concepts we take for granted today. Originally a Thracian settlement, it became a Greek colony at the beginning of the 6th century BC. But the peninsular town possesses more than the remains of an assortment of iconic and historic eras. This hub on the Black Sea changed the world because the very concept of money was invented here.
Nessebar was once an important trading city and part of the Delian League: an alliance of ancient Greek states. During the centuries to follow, it remained a strategic nexus for the cultures and epochs that passed through this pivotal place. Today, you'll find the remnants of these eras in the form of buildings from the Middle Ages and Byzantine Empires. The historic city, located in modern-day Bulgaria, reflects all the stages of development of architectural styles in the Balkans.
Nessebar was also responsible for another key aspect of the region's development—namely the evolution of trade and a monetary system to match.
Nessebar is proud of its churches. The Church of St. Sofia, known as the Old Metropolitan Church, and the Church of Virgin Eleusa, situated on the northern shore, are three-aisled basilicas dating to the early Byzantine period in the 5th and 6th centuires. The Church of St. John the Baptist, from the 11th century, is distinguished by its cylindrical dome. The Church of St. Stephen is remarkable for its frescoes from the 16th century.
Nessebar is also the cultural treasury of Bulgaria. In 1956 it was declared “a museum town, an archaeological, and architectural reserve.” Because of its unique historic value, it was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1983. Today, the Old Town is an attractive place for romantic walks along the narrow cobbled streets, between boutiques selling interesting handmade goods.
Burgas is one of the largest cities in the country. It is situated on the Black Sea shore, in the Burgas Bay, at a distance of 400 km from Sofia and 130 km from Varna. Burgas is an administrative center of the area with the same name. The city population is more than 230,000 people.
The Burgas port is the largest cargo port in the country. The airport which serves international flights is situated at a distance of 10 km north-east from the city.
Burgas is the cultural center of the region, which is evident by the active work of the Burgas Opera, Dramatic Theater “Adriana Budevska”, and the State Puppet Theater of Burgas. There are also multiple galleries in the city. Many cultural events are also conducted in the renovated Marine Casino. The Marine Park is a suitable place for a walk and relaxation. The summer theater of the city is also situated here. Diverse concerts and performances are conducted in it.
The Burgas forebridge is one of the favorite places for walk of the residents and the visitors of the city. It was constructed in 1936 and is situated near the Casino.

Man playing the bagpipe amidst ancient/early medieval ruins in Nessebar, Bulgaria
I saw this performer perched on top of an ancient fortress wall in Bulgaria and playing the bagpipe. Despite that it seemed he was improvising and playing no particular tune per se, I also thought watching him was kind of a mystical experience worth sharing.
