Hike from Chimbulak, outside Almaty, Kazakhstan
26 August 2016 - Nearing the end of my Summer With The Stans, I had kind of settled in at a hostel in Almaty, Kazakhstan (Алматы, Казахстан) where I ended up staying 9 nights. The city is quite cosmopolitan, and it was nice to have a wide range of accessible restaurants and shopping. The great thing about the city is that you can do day trips and hikes. Today, I took a bus from Almaty to Medeu, and then 3 more cable cars up to the Chimbulak ski resort and the Talgar Pass at 3160 metres ...
At the pass, I saw there was a mountain just to the left and a well-trodden path up, so I thought to myself it would be a shame not to go up. Views even more spectacular at the top of this mountain - I really don't know any names, and not even sure the name of the mountain I mention in the video (Komsomola) is one of the mountains I actually saw. I do know that these mountains are part of the Ile-Alatau Range, which itself is part of the Tian Shan Mountains, and I know I also saw a glacier. I didn't expect to see such beauty before I left my hostel, so overall this was a great surprise! (Also, imagine just how white these mountains would look in the winter!)

The Lake Issyk | Kazakhstan | Follow Me To Magic World
The Lake Issyk also known as Issyk Lake (Kazakh: Esik ko'li / Есік көлі) is a lake in Kazakhstan fed by the Issyk River. It should not be confused with the Issyk-Kul Lake in neighboring Kyrgyzstan.
The lake is mostly famous for the way it was created (as a result of an ancient natural landslide damming a valley), destroyed (another natural landslide destroying that dam in 1963, with a subsequent flood damaging the city of Esik), and re-created (with human help).
