Myeongin Andong Soju, making traditional alcoholic beverage / 명인이 빚은 소주의 예술 '명인안동소주'
Myeongin Andong Soju is a manufacturer of a traditional Korean alcoholic beverage that has been inherited by a great master. Andong Soju was first made about 700 years ago during the Koryo Dynasty. And since then, the tradition has been inherited as a home-brewed liquor by keeping the original taste and flavor. Unlike other kinds of soju made by dilution, it is made with 100% Korean rice to provide a healthy and tasty alcoholic beverage. We look into Myeongin Andong Soju, which has galvanized efforts to keep the tradition as one of the representative alcoholic beverages in Korea.
안동소주는 700여년전 고려시대에 처음 우리나라에 전해지면서 역사가 시작됐다. 역사와 정통성을 그대로 이어 만든 오리지날 안동소주의 깊은 맛과 향을 명인안동소주가 그대로 이어오고 있다. 현대인들이 즐기는 (희석식) 소주와는 다르게 100% 순수쌀로 만든 정통 증류식 소주를 만듦으로써 맛과 건강을 생각한다. 대한민국의 전통을 이어온 대표술로 세계 속의 명주로 대한민국의 자존심을 지키는 '명인안동소주'를 만나본다.

Earthenware exhibition in Andong, Korea
Hello, you all! This is Kenneth. 안녕하세요, 여러분 전대건입니다. I'll take you to the special exhibition that's held in my university. This exhibition is about Earthenware. If you get here, you can see what it looks like and how our ancestor's used to use them. Plus, you can get a chance to watch an expert making Earthenware in front of you! Well, I was lucky enough to watch it :)
To get here if you're in Andong, Korea, simply get on the number 11 bus from Andong station and get off at Andong University. Then go to museum that's located in the middle of university, go up to the fourth floor. That's where it is. If it's still hard for you to get here, let me know in advance. How To Spend a Day in ANDONG, Korea (WeWillNomad)
A sunny Sunday in Andong is an ideal time to walk along the Nakdong River and we discovered fields of flowers after a quick visit to the Andong Soju & Traditional Food Museum.
Further along the walkway, we got invited to join a festive celebration with friendly Korean people who insisted on feeding us lots of food and downing a bunch of beers with them! This certainly puts an interesting spin on the remainder of our walk!
Eventually, we made it to the Wolyeonggyo Bridge which at 387m long, is the longest wooden pedestrian bridge in Korea! Across the bridge, there is a large site with original Folk buildings which were relocated when the nearby dam wall was constructed.

Andong Mask Dance Festival is held in Andong area which is considered the capital of Korean traditional culture, with the theme of mask and mask dance. Andong’s culture and religion have remained a great value over the years with various cultures intact. Therefore, Andong is the region which has the most of cultural heritages and boasts the beauty of the East alike.
Andong Hahoe Folk Village [UNESCO World Heritage]
Hahoe Village is home to descendants of the Ryu clan of Pungsan and is well-known for its traditional houses. Birthplace of renowned scholars of the Joseon Period such as Gyeomam Ryu Un-ryong and Seoae Ryu Seong-ryong, the village became even more famous after Queen Elizabeth of England visited on April 21, 1999.
Andong Hahoe Folk Village [UNESCO World Heritage] (안동 하회마을 [유네스코 세계문화유산])
Hahoe Village (translating to “Village Enveloped by Water”) gets its name from Nakdong River, which flows around the town’s perimeter. The village is located at the foothills of Hwasan Mountain, an offshoot of Taebaek Mountain that rises up to the east. The center of the village is populated by large tile-roofed houses belonging to the Ryu clan, adding their own unique charm to the surrounding thatched roofs.
Hahoe Village boasts exquisite scenic sights: the elegant Nakdong River flowing around the village, the magnificent Buyongdae Cliff, endlessly unfolding sandy beaches, and lush, ancient pine trees. Visitors can take the boat to Buyongdae Cliff for a panoramic view of the village.
In addition to breathtaking scenery, Hahoe Village offers delectable local delicacies. Try the Andong Soju (distilled alcoholic beverage), Heotjesabap (a type of Bibimbap eaten by the nobles), Andong Gangodeungeo (salted mackerel), and Andong Guksu (a kind of noodle dish).
Nearby attractions include Bongjeongsa Temple (built during the Silla Period), Gosan Seowon (Confucian Academy), Gwiraejeong, Gyemyeongsan Mountain Recreational Forest, Hakgasan Mountain Recreational Forest, and Waryongsan Mountain.
Hahoe Village, along with Yangdong Village in Gyeongju, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List under the category of “Historic Villages in Korea” on July 31, 2010.
Andong Mask Dance Festival is held every autumn.

Andong, part 3: Hanu BBQ and Andong Soju
After staying in Hahoe Village, we went back to downtown Andong. A shop sold some Hahoe mask cakes that were pretty good. We talked with the ladies who worked there, and then I asked for a good place for the famous Andong Hanu beef. They walked us down a few blocks to this place, Dongbu Sutbul Galbi 동부숯불갈비, that was amazing. The beef was perfectly marbled and cooked over whole wood charcoal. They gave use great banchan, including marinated crabs and a spicy galbi jjim with braised beef ribs and octopus. Reminded me of New Orleans cuisine. Ben and I toasted our trip with some high octane Andong soju before grabbing the bus back to Seoul.

봉정사 극락전은 한국에서 가장 오래된 목조건물이다.
봉정사는 경북 안동 천등산에 위치하고 있는 사찰이다.
봉정사는 신라 문무왕 12년(672)에 의상대사의 제자인 능인스님께서 창건하신 사찰이다.
봉정사는 통일신라 초기에 만들어진 고찰로 극락전(국보 제15호)·대웅전(보물 제55호), 화엄강당(보물 제448호), 고금당(古今堂：보물 제449호)과, 승방인 무량해회(無量海會), 만세루(萬歲樓), 우화루(羽化樓) 등 고려시대의 3층석탑(경상북도 유형문화재 제182호) 가 있다.
천등산은 원래 대망산이라 불렀는데 능인대사가 젊었을때 대망산 바위굴에서 도를 닦고 있던 중 스님의 도력에 감복한 천상의 선녀가 하늘에서 등불을 내려 굴안을 환하게 밝혀 주었다고 하여 '천등산'이라 이름하고 그 굴을 '천등굴'이라 하였다.
그 뒤 더욱 수행을 하던 능인스님이 도력으로 종이 봉황을 접어서 날리니 이곳에 와서 머물렀다 하여 봉황새 봉(鳳)자에 머무를 정(停)자를 따서 봉정사라 이름 붙여졌다고 한다.
