“Prepare the way of The Lord” Rev. Sarah Gomez-Lorraine
“Prepare the way of The Lord” Rev. Sarah Gomez-Lorraine
1st Scripture Reading:
Philippians 1:3-11
I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because you hold me in your heart, for all of you share in God’s grace with me, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the compassion of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.
2nd Scripture Reading:
Luke 3:1-6
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip ruler of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene, during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah,
“The voice of one crying out in
the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight.
Every valley shall be filled,
and every mountain and hill
shall be made low,
and the crooked shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth;
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'”

DM622 - Professor Introduction
Meet your professor, Eric Valosin, for DM622 - Writing and Editing for Social Media.
MA in Digital Media Marketing and Design, The College of Saint Elizabeth
“Yet, If You Say So” Rev. Sarah Gomez-Lorraine
1st Scripture Reading:
Psalm 138
I give you thanks, O God,
with my whole heart;
before the gods
I sing your praise;
I bow down
toward your holy temple
and give thanks
to your name
for your steadfast love
and your faithfulness;
for you have exalted your name
and your word above everything.
On the day I called,
you answered me,
you increased my strength
of soul.
All the rulers of the earth
shall praise you, O God,
for they have heard the words
of your mouth.
They shall sing of the ways
of God,
for great is the glory
of God.
For though God is high,
God regards the lowly;
but the haughty God perceives
from far away.
Though I walk in the midst
of trouble,
you preserve me against the wrath
of my enemies;
you stretch out your hand,
and your right hand delivers me.
God will fulfill God's purpose
for me;
your steadfast love, O God,
endures forever.
Do not forsake the work
of your hands.
2nd Scripture Reading:
Luke 5:1-11
Once while Jesus was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch. Simon answered, Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets. When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man! For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who are partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.

“Stand Up and Raise Your Heads” Rev. Sarah Gomez-Lorraine
“Stand Up and Raise Your Heads” Rev. Sarah Gomez-Lorraine
1st Scripture Reading:
Psalm 25:1-10
To you, O God,
I lift up my soul.
O my God,
in you I trust;
do not let me be put
to shame;
do not let my enemies exult
over me.
Do not let those who wait for you
be put to shame;
let them be ashamed
who are wantonly treacherous.
Make me to know your ways,
O God;
teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth,
and teach me,
for you are the God
of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.
Be mindful of your mercy,
O God,
and of your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
Do not remember the sins
of my youth
or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love
remember me,
for your goodness’ sake,
O God!
Good and upright is God;
therefore God instructs sinners
in the way.
God leads the humble
in what is right,
and teaches the humble
God’s way.
All the paths of God
are steadfast love
and faithfulness,
for those who keep God’s covenant
and God’s decrees.
2nd Scripture Reading:
Luke 21:25-36
[Jesus said:] “There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see ‘the Son of Man coming in a cloud’ with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
Then he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
“Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

“The Greatest Of These Is Love” Rev. Sarah Gomez-Lorraine
1st Scripture Reading:
Psalm 71:1-6
In you, O God,
I take refuge;
let me never be put
to shame.
In your righteousness
deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me
and save me.
Be to me a rock
of refuge,
a strong fortress,
to save me,
for you are my rock
and my fortress.
Rescue me,
O my God,
from the hand
of the wicked,
from the grasp
of the unjust and cruel.
For you, O God,
are my hope,
my trust, O God,
from my youth.
Upon you I have leaned
from my birth;
it was you who took me
from my mother's womb.
My praise is continually
of you.
2nd Scripture Reading:
Luke 4:21-30
Then he began to say to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, Is not this Joseph's son? He said to them, Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, 'Doctor, cure yourself!' And you will say, 'Do here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum.' And he said, Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in the prophet's hometown. But the truth is, there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a severe famine over all the land; yet Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon. There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian. When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with rage. They got up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they might hurl him off the cliff. But he passed through the midst of them and went on his way.

“To Testify To The Truth” Rev. Sarah Gomez-Lorraine
1st Scripture Reading:
Psalm 93
God is ruler,
God is robed in majesty;
the Sovereign is robed,
and is girded with strength.
God has established
the world;
it shall never be moved;
your throne is established
from of old;
you are from everlasting.
The floods have lifted up,
O God,
the floods have lifted up
their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring.
More majestic than the thunders
of mighty waters,
more majestic than the waves
of the sea,
majestic on high is God!
Your decrees are very sure;
holiness befits your house,
O God, forevermore.
2nd Scripture Reading:
John 18:33-37
Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? Jesus answered, Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me? Pilate replied, I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here. Pilate asked him, So you are a king? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.
