‘Heavenly’ angel museum losing its wings
(26 Sep 2018) The Wisconsin museum that holds the record for world's largest collection of angels is closing.
Joyce Berg, who helped start the Angel Museum 20 years ago with her personal collection, says they are closing due to lack of funds, membership, corporate sponsors and volunteers.
Berg and her late husband started collecting in 1976 and she now holds the record for 13,165 angels. She estimates that at least 180,000 people have made it through the former church in Beloit. The museum also has 600 black angels donated by Oprah Winfrey.
The 87-year-old Berg plans to keep some angels but has hired an auction company to sell most of them. She says she hopes they can stay together.
The last day is Saturday.

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Beloit (#609)
[Latest Airdate: December 14, 2017]
[Original Airdate: March 2, 2017]
Beloit really surprised us --- and we're not easily surprised. This is a city with a great, paradoxical spirit. Polished and rustic, sophisticated and folksy, old and new, serious and whimsical. Highlights? Forward thinking companies like Universal AET and AccuLynx who are new life to the renovated buildings that were Beloit Corporation. The old Beckman Mill made to work like new again. Thousands of angels under the roof of an old church (not what you're thinking). And no kidding, some of the best food of the season! John literally ate his way through Beloit --- and enjoyed every bite at Bushel & Peck's, Merrill and Houston's and The 615 Club. But it was the fun, hardworking people who made our time in Beloit a week to remember. Yep, the people... and the Ironworks! You have to see this reinvigorated area. The Ironworks is just really cool. And since we love cool, we love Beloit!

Bald Eagles of Beloit Wisconsin
A flock of Bald Eagles have taken up residence in Beloit Wisconsin above the Rock River near the confluence with Turtle Creek and only a couple blocks from downtown. This video shows a short two-block walk from downtown to the river and captures seven Bald Eagles feeding from the Rock River. It shows three instances of them flying down to get a fish from the river. And at minute marker 6:00 you'll see I've been able to capture seven in a single frame.
The video is a simple flip video and does not do justice. They're simply amazing to watch. Hope they stick around.
Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Manitowoc (#711)
[Latest Airdate: July 5, 2018]
[Original Airdate: March 8, 2018]
Manitowoc is a city on the eastern shore of Wisconsin, north of Sheboygan and south of Green Bay that John McGivern LOVES! No, we mean it.
Visits to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and exploration of the SS Badger were the beginning of his enchantment. Then he was introduced to beach glass, reminisced with an Evergleam Christmas tree collector, and explored Jagemann Stamping and Briess Malt and Ingredients Co. He had a Diet Coke with Kathie at the Stage Door Pub, made a belt at Leatherwerks and checked in to Dead by Dawn --- not sure that he would ever check out! But the cherry on the top was provided by Beerntsen's Confectionary and Cedar Crest Ice Cream! Yum! What's not to love?
Fair warning to those in Manitowoc: Don't be surprised if some day there's a Manitowoc mailbox with John's name on it. By being so inviting, you asked for it, Manitowoc!

Mounds, Dominoes and Doodlebugs Trailer
Trailer for the documentary film Mounds, Dominoes and Doodlebugs - The Early Days of Medicine Mound, Texas, Copyright 2013.
Established by the Railroad in 1908, Medicine Mound, Texas once flourished with farming, commerce, churches, and schools. But a tragic love story and the ensuing downtown fire seemingly set off a series of devastating events that led to the demise of this little corner of Rural America.
Today, the town's charm remains preserved in an off-beat little museum established within the Hicks & Cobb General Store. Just down the road a piece is the town's namesake - four cone shaped dolomite hills called the Medicine Mounds, which the Comanche Indians held sacred for their healing qualities.
In the documentary film Mounds, Dominoes and Doodlebugs - The Early Days of Medicine Mound, Texas, pioneer descendants known as Mounders recount the brief history of Medicine Mound. In touring the few standing remnants and sharing charming stories, they tell of a rich life in simpler times.
The Downtown Medicine Mound Museum is owned and operated by the Downtown Medicine Mound Preservation Group, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that operates to preserve the history of Medicine Mound, Texas and her pioneer families.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.

SUMMARY
=======
Wisconsin ( (listen)) is a U.S. state located in the north-central United States, in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions. It is bordered by Minnesota to the west, Iowa to the southwest, Illinois to the south, Lake Michigan to the east, Michigan to the northeast, and Lake Superior to the north. Wisconsin is the 23rd largest state by total area and the 20th most populous. The state capital is Madison, and its largest city is Milwaukee, which is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan. The state is divided into 72 counties.
Wisconsin's geography is diverse, having been greatly impacted by glaciers during the Ice Age with the exception of the Driftless Area. The Northern Highland and Western Upland along with a part of the Central Plain occupies the western part of the state, with lowlands stretching to the shore of Lake Michigan. Wisconsin is second to Michigan in the length of its Great Lakes coastline.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, a large number of European settlers entered the state, many of whom emigrated from Germany and Scandinavia. Like neighboring Minnesota, the state remains a center of German American and Scandinavian American culture.
Wisconsin is known as America's Dairyland because it is one of the nation's leading dairy producers, particularly famous for its cheese. Manufacturing, especially paper products, information technology (IT), cranberries, ginseng and tourism are also major contributors to the state's economy.
