Floating Villages - Tonle Sap (Boat from Siem Reap to Battambang)
On my way back to Battambang from a weekend in Siem Reap, I decided to take the long, scenic boat ride down the river that goes through Tonle Sap Lake and the floating villages. It was quite long and can got uncomfortable, but I'm glad I did it! The floating villages are one of the most popular tourist things to do after seeing Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. While I recommend seeing Tonle Sap, this experience of going from one city to another is quite different from a day tour because the boat was filled with locals, as well as tourists who were up for the 8-9 hour ride and who made time for Battambang in their Cambodia itinerary.

Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by Boat
Welcome to the most enjoyable - or at least the most aquatic - way to get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap in Cambodia. The daily ferry ride is neither cheapest nor safest, but it is a ton of fun.
River Life is surprisingly similar the world over. Lots of locals out doing their thing, setting up fishing nets and taking in the daily haul. They were incredibly friendly, waving as we motored through, with the younger kids always more excited than the adults who were much more focused on the job at hand.
Bus Trip Kampong Cham Phnom Penh
The holiday at Kampong Cham city is over. I had coconut water and we had a last lunch before leaving. My kid like spaghetti but my wife order fish amok and fish soup. We then packed up the clothes and stuffs, get on a Tuk Tuk heading to the bus station in Kampong Cham city and wait there for about 30min. The bus arrived, we then get on the bus and said good bye to Kampong Cham city. It was a great trip as we never stay there over night and enjoy the good time walking and eating foods like this. We may come back again sometimes in the future.
Your support is a huge encouragement for me as a Khmer to continue sharing the tourist attraction places in Cambodia to all Khmer and the World and bring more tourists to Cambodia.

CAMBODIA - MEKONG RIVER CROSSING ON THE SAIGON - PHNOM PENH BUS
During the Ho Chi Minh - Phnom Peng bus ride, the ferry is chartering visitors and cargo across the Mekong, Neak Luong in Cambodia.
How To Get From Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh?
When you want to travel from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh, you have 2 options: you can do the border crossing overland by bus or take a plane. A bus ride takes about 6 hours and costs around $12. Flying is a lot faster and takes only 1 hour from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh Airport. Flights start from $67.
Taking the bus however is a lot more sustainable for the environment. Taking the bus vs flying is often ten times less polluting than taking a flight on short distances like this.
Another advantage of taking the bus from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh is the experience of course. Crossing the border overland makes you more aware that you are travelling to a new country. This is when the new chapter of your trip starts.
A cross-border trip offers a new travel experience. Why not have at least one in your itinerary? This route from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh is one of the more popular ones and is also pretty straightforward.
Some popular bus companies that operate this route include Sint Tourist, Mekong Express and Giant Ibis Transport, Sinh Tourist. If you prefer a cheaper option you can also opt for Sorya bus. Their tickets costs only $12 and includes pick-up if you are staying in District 1 in Ho Chi Minh.
The journey takes about 6 hours. See here an overview of the preferred bus companies:
Neak Loeung:
Neak Loeung is a busy commercial town in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia. Located on the Mekong and astride National Highway number 1, it is the commune centre for Neak Leung commune and the capital of Peam Ror District. The town can be reached by car ferry from Kampong Phnum in Kandal Province or by boat along the Mekong river.
Due to its strategic location, the town and port of Neak Leung has been a significant battleground at various times in Cambodia's history. In August 1973, during the Cambodian Civil War, Neak Leung was propelled to the centre of international attention when an American B-52 Stratofortress mistakenly dropped its 20-ton load on the town centre.
Phnom Penh:
Phnom Penh formerly known as Krong Chaktomuk Serimongkul (Khmer: ក្រុងចតុមុខសិរីមង្គល means The City of the Brahma's Faces) or shortly known as Krong Chaktomuk (Khmer: ក្រុងចតុមុខ),[8] is the capital and most populous city in Cambodia. Phnom Penh has been the national capital since French colonization of Cambodia, and has grown to become the nation's economic, industrial, and cultural center.
Once known as the Pearl of Asia, it was considered one of the loveliest French-built cities in Indochina[9] in the 1920s. Phnom Penh, along with Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, are significant global and domestic tourist destinations for Cambodia. Founded in 1372, the city is noted for its historical architecture and attractions. It became the national capital in 1434 following the fall of Angkor, and remained so until 1497. It regained its capital status during the French colonial era in 1865. There are a number of surviving French colonial buildings scattered along the grand boulevards.
On the banks of the Tonlé Sap, Mekong, and Bassac Rivers, Phnom Penh is home to more than 2 million people, approximately 14% of the Cambodian population.
Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City, also known by its former name of Saigon, is the most populous city in Vietnam with a population of 8.4 million (13 million in the metropolitan area) as of 2017. Located in southeastern Vietnam, the metropolis surrounds the Saigon River and covers about 2,061 square kilometres (796 square miles). From 1955 to 1975, Saigon was the capital of the Republic of Vietnam, commonly known as South Vietnam.[6]
Ho Chi Minh City is the financial centre of Vietnam and is classified as a Beta+ World City by Globalization and World Cities Research Network.[7] It is home to the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, the largest stock exchange by total market capitalization in Vietnam and the headquarters of many national and international banks and companies.
The main passenger airport serving the metropolitan area is Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the busiest airport in Vietnam handling over 38 million passengers in 2018.[10] Of the routes the airport offers, the Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi route is the busiest in Southeast Asia and the sixth busiest in the world, serving 6,867,114 customers in 2018.

Bus Ride in Cambodia from Siem Reap to Battambang (Scenery, Tractors, Motorcycles, Pigs, People)
With our time in Siem Reap coming to an end we hopped on a Cambodian bus heading to Battambang - enjoying the scenery, plethora of diverse vehicles on the road (including tractors, motorcycles, trucks with pigs, etc) and people on our bus ride. Overall the journey was three and a half hours including a lunch stop. One of the most fascinating aspects of taking a bus in Cambodia is watching outside of the window at what is unfolding before your very eyes. All kinds of different vehicles and makeshift crafts are chugging along the road. Sometimes you'll see a group of Buddhist monks riding on the back of a trailer and others times you'll notice pigs on the back of a motorbike and/or chickens dangling off from the side. It's the kind of eventful journey that we both enjoy.

Our bus ticket only cost $5 and we requested several days in advance to sit near the front of the bus. Not only were we near the front, but we also had strong air conditioning, which made the journey far more pleasant, as only weeks prior we had suffered sitting in the back of the bus literally feeling as though we were being cooked in a frying pan. For those traveling in Cambodia, we highly recommend booking your bus tickets in advance so that you can specify and claim a seat near the front of the bus. The footage used in this video was mostly shot at 120 frames per second (slow motion) so that you are able to witness events that would otherwise be a blur with your naked eye.
We're on a bus yet again. Where are we going? We're going to Battambang from Siem Reap. The adventures continue. Here is the journey.
On our last journey on the bus in Cambodia we were sitting right in the back of the bus and there was no AC. Basically, the AC didn't work there and we were sitting on top of the engines, so there was hot air blowing in. It felt like we were cooking in the back. We were just guzzling water, liters of water, and it didn't make any difference. This time we have a much nicer seat. We're near the front of the bus and we have AC. One of the tips we recommend for those traveling is if you know when you are going to be going somewhere at a specific date it is good to book your bus ticket several days in advance, so that you can get a seat near the front of the bus which tends to have better air conditioning. Otherwise, you'll be in the back cooking. Suckers!
So far we've passed a lot of scenic areas, a lot of rural countryside and parts along this particular route. We've seen just about any kind of form of transportation and form of craft but we are still looking for pigs on the back of a motorbike. That is what Sam really wants to capture. I do want to capture that.
This particular bus route is roughly three to three and a half hours and we just finished stopping at a rest stop here for about fifteen or twenty minutes and we ended up getting some steamed dumplings as our snack and now we're on the final leg of our journey with an hour and a half to go and then it is Battambang time.
This is part of our Travel in Cambodia series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Khmer / Cambodian culture, arts, food, religion and people.

Floating Village - Tonlé Sap (Siem Reap to Phnom Penh) Tonle Cambodia
Tonle Sap Lake and Floating Fishing Village-Cambodia.
Five provinces circled the area of Tonle Sap Lake, more than three million of population inhabited around the bank of the Lake and 90% of them earn a living by catching fish and making agricultures. As you can see on the map of Cambodia, It stretches across the northwest section of the country.
The Lake is the largest fresh water in South East Asia. Its dimension changes depending on the monsoon and dry season. During raining season from June to October, the lake is filled with water flowing from the Mekong with 14 meters in depth and expands the surface of 10,000 square Kilometers. In dry season from November to May its size 3,000 square kilometers with two meters in depth and water flows out from the Lake to the Mekong, in and out flowing is the natural phenomenon occurrences. The flooded forest surrounding the edge of the lake is the best shelter and also very important for all kinds of fishes spawned and breeding babies. This lake is providing many of biodiversities, over 300 species of fresh water fishes, as well as snakes, crocodiles, tortoises, turtles, and otters. More than 100 varieties water birds including storks, pelicans, etc
The Lake is also an important commercial resource, providing more than half of the fish consumed in Cambodia. In harmony with the specialized ecosystems, the human occupations at the edges of the lake is similarly distinctive - floating villages, towering stilted houses, enormous fish traps, and an economy and way of life deeply intertwined with the lake, the fish, the wildlife and the cycles of rising and falling waters
The lake located about 15 km south of Siem Reap town; you can make your journey from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by express boat crossing the lake and dock at the village of Chong Khneas. It takes only six hours, but this trip we may recommend you during Monsoon season. In the dry season, the boat sometimes stuck in the mud because the water is low. There are several ways to see the culture and wildlife of the lake area depending on the amount of time you have and your interest.
Chong Khneas is the name of the famous floating village at the edge of the lake. It locates at the Southern part of Siem Reap town about 15 Km and takes only 30 minutes by vehicles to the boat dock where there are always boats waiting for visitors. The boat trip through the floating village takes approximately two hours. You will explore the different of Khmer, Muslim and Vietnamese floating households and the floating markets, fisheries, clinics, schools, basketball course, pigsty and other boatloads of tourists.
A private firm now owns the Chong Khneas region making the area more commercial. The boat trip usually includes two stops: one at a touristy floating 'fish and bird exhibition' with a souvenir and snack shop, and the other at the very highly recommended Gecko Environment Centre, which offers displays and information introducing the ecology and biodiversity of the lake area.
