Tuk-Tuk ride (autorickshaw) around the Temples of Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia
This is a travel video capturing clips from our entire three day experience visiting the Temples of Angkor by tuk-tuk (autorickshaw) in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. By far our preferred (and recommended) way of getting around the temples, the tuk-tuk drivers are knowledgeable about which temples to visit while helping your to conserve energy for exploration on foot. We noticed many tourists who decided to take bicycles looking awfully tanned, sweating and exhausted. The video captures many snippets of the things we witnessed on the road, such as passing other vehicles, farm fields, rural areas and small villages. Overall, we often looked forward to taking the tuk-tuk as much as we did exploring the temples, as it gave us a chance to cool off in the breeze while resting our legs.

Auto rickshaws are a common means of public transportation in many countries in the world. Also known as a three-wheeler, Samosa, tempo, tuk-tuk, trishaw, auto, rickshaw, autorick, bajaj, rick, tricycle, mototaxi, baby taxi or lapa in popular parlance, an auto rickshaw is a usually three-wheeled cabin cycle for private use and as a vehicle for hire. It is a motorized version of the traditional pulled rickshaw or cycle rickshaw. Auto rickshaws are an essential form of urban transport in many developing countries, and a form of novelty transport in many Eastern countries.
In Cambodia, the term tuk-tuk (Khmer: ទុកទុក) is used to refer to a motorcycle with a cabin attached to the rear. Cambodian cities have a much lower volume of automobile traffic than Thai cities, and tuk-tuks are still the most common form of urban transport. At the temple complex of Angkor, for example, tuk-tuks provide a convenient form of transport around the complex for tourists. One can hire a tuk-tuk and driver by the day.
Siem Reap tuk-tuks are generally of the style of motorcycle and trailer. Phnom Penh tuk-tuks are by contrast one piece. They are the front end of a motorcycle consisting of steering, tank and engine/gearbox with a covered tray mounted at the back. The power is transferred by chain to an axle mounted to the modified rear fork which drives the two rear wheels. Suspended upon the rear fork is an open cabin with an in-line seat on each side. This arrangement can carry 6 people at ease, with their luggage in the leg space. It is not unusual to see these vehicles greatly overloaded, especially in outer suburbs and around markets.
Currently, Tuk Tuk in Cambodia is being developed to be more convenient and safer. It is also becoming a popular form of transportation for Phnom Penh residents:

Why Angkor Wat (Siem Reap) is a must see | CAMBODIA
Another one of our life bucket list stops the Angkor Wat temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Needless to say we had an absolutely incredible time visiting the Khmer Hindu and Buddhist temple ruins.
Things started off in Phnom Penh where we caught the Cambodia Post VIP Van for $11 USD each to get to Siem Reap. This is the site we booked our Cambodia Post VIP Van tickets from:
They have a variety of routes and departure times. We found Cambodia Post VIP Van to be a pretty cheap and convenient way getting from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, then using a tuk tuk for the remainder of our journey to get to our accommodation.
The ride from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap via Cambodia Post VIP Van took about 3 hours in total including a quick lunch stop and there were tuk tuks waiting around for us to get to our final destination (our Airbnb accommodation in Siem Reap) that ended up being just a few minutes drive away.
Our accommodation in Siem Reap was an urban studio located in the peaceful Kandal Village. The place was clean, stylish and comfortable. It's situated above Khmer 652 - a Cambodian restaurant that serves very delicious Khmer cuisine with super lovely staff. There are a handful of other cafes and restaurants nearby as well as local craft shops too.
Khmer 652 is owned by the Airbnb hosts so you also get a 10% discount for dining there. Our favourite meals during our time in Siem Reap were at Khmer 652 as well as Crane just at the back of their alley. We loved the location of our accommodation in Siem Reap because it's also in close walking distance to a supermarket, the river bank and the very lively Pub Street.
After a quick haircut and a browse around Kandal Village we got some rest before heading over to the Angkor Wat temple complex the next day. We opted to get a personal tour guide which turned out to be one of the best decisions ever.
Sarak was our tuk tuk driver and Angkor Wat travel guide, recommended to us from a fellow YouTuber friend. Sarak took us all around the amazing temples in the Angkor Wat temple complex, visiting the lesser-known and secret quiet areas (as well as the main temples too). He even took it upon himself to help us take some beautiful photos with our phone during our entire time together too. He was a driver, travel guide and photographer all in one!
Get in touch with Sarak:
meamsarak@gmail.com
+855 92 394 994
If you're wondering how to get to Angkor Wat, we definitely recommend going via tuk tuk with Sarak to enjoy the open air ride and if you want to go to the quieter spots like we did, simply let him know.
We bought a 3-day multi-pass to visit the Angkor Wat temple complex. First day we had Sarak and on our subsequent visits we had Mr Bean (Sarak's business partner) take us when we filmed Peter's Part 2 for his how to retire early series and on the final visit we went via Grab tuk tuk ourselves just to Angkor Wat. We were in Siem Reap visiting Angkor Wat during November. Btw, make sure to keep your Angkor Wat tickets with you as this gets checked at various entry points into the temple complex.
We visited the following temples:
- West Gate
- Angkor Thom
- Preah Khan
- Ta Prohm (also known as the Tomb Raider temple)
- Bayon (and then finally...)
- Angkor Wat
We also enjoyed a breath taking sunset away from the crowds at Srah Sang.

Savey Than - Angkor Wat Tuk Tuk Driver (Official Music Video)
Meet Savey Than (pronounced Sah-why Taaahn) one of the most highly recommended tuk tuk drivers in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Savey Than was born and raised in the Village of Samrong, where his parents and younger siblings still live. Currently he works as a porter at the Bousavy Guesthouse in Siem Reap, and also works as a tuk tuk driver on the side. A large part of his income is sent back home to his family to fund his sibling's education fees. Although Savey dreams of going to school too, his responsibilities of being the eldest son has been his priority. Savey currently rents the tuk tuk cab that he uses, and is trying to earn and save up enough money to buy his own. Taking a ride with Savey is a fun and inexpensive way to help a deserving guy and his family to better their lives.

Quick Tips Siem Reap, Cambodia - Visa, Currency, Tuk Tuk, and Other Helpful Travel Tips
Travel tips for traveling to Siem Reap, Cambodia
Follow me on Instagram to stay up to date with my adventures: @rhanzpants
Travel Tips:
1. Visa - go to the link below to apply for a Visa online. For the photo just take one using your phone against a white background and upload to the online application.
2. Immigration - once you get to the terminal head towards immigration desks and to the left of that area you will find a table with arrival and departure forms, which look like small packets on my video. The airlines did not give me one during the flight, which they typically would.
3. Currency - bring a lot of US dollars, especially singles. Most things you buy will be in the $2-$3 range. Don't bring anything greater than a $20 bill.
4. Tuk Tuk - definitely hire one from beginning to end and if you do reach out to my driver Pi Bak (Facebook link below) who can be reached on WhatsApp. He can pick you up from the airport for $5 and can take you around all day for about $20.
5. Where to stay - I stayed at La Da Kiri Hotel below. Hotel was ok but very close to all the night markets. I recommend looking for hotels around this area at about 2-3 blocks away from the markets.
6 & 7. Night Markets and where to eat - Eat at the Night Markets! Check out the two main night markets below.
Angkor Night Market
Pub Street
8. Temples - Check out the link below. Pace yourself! You need to buy a ticket which gets you in to all the temples. I was able to do all in one day but you can do multi-day tickets. Don't recommend doing the tour in the link, rather just get a tuk tuk to take you to each place.
9. What to Wear - shorts and t-shirt, it's hot! A towel for when it gets hot walking around. light scarf and sunglasses during the tuk tuk ride, it can get dusty.
10. Tipping - appreciated but not expected.
**Siem Reap Airport Lounge Tips
Priority Pass lounge is available. After security and immigration go through the duty free shopping and keep right. You should see it at the end of the hall part the garden.

Angkor, Cambodia 02: Tuk-tuk Journey from Siem Reap
On 28th March 2014, Evelin Lindner makes her way from Siem Reap to Angkor Wat with Lee, her Tuk-tuk driver-friend. Later she would have the honour of being invited to meet his family at their home (youtu.be/AROR4zEgHxg). As many forecast, in 10 years time, Cambodia may be as destroyed as Thailand. Big money will have taken over and pushed out local communities. Therefore, Evelin makes an effort to document everything, even seemingly profane details (because they may no longer be part of daily life in ten years time), even if done as unprofessionally as here. She remembers her time in 1981 in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Burma, and her time in 1983 in China, and she regrets not having documented daily life then more. The video was recorded by Evelin. Please note that it is not professionally done and that it is unedited.

Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) via Tuk Tuk - February 2013
We toured in and around Siem Reap, including the ancient Khmer monuments and other sites, via tuk tuk. One day we went about 130 kilometers (80 miles) in one of these motorcycle taxis. Not many Khmer ruins in this video, but lots of dusty, bouncy road and other mildly amusing stuff. The driver is Sopha Khiev ( Our faithful guide for five days. His email address is: khievsopha07@gmail.com
Angkor, Cambodia 10: The Home of Tuk-tuk Driver Lee in Siem Reap
On 30th March 2014, Evelin has the great honour to be invited to the home of Boun Sengny, also called Lee, who was her caring guide throughout her time in Siem Reap and Angkor. He lives in a room that he rents from the owner of a wooden construction. One can rent a small room for 15 American dollars and somewhat larger ones for 25 dollars. Lee pays 25 American dollars per month for the room he lives in, plus electricity. It is one single room, and Lee lives there together with his wife and their two daughters. His wife offers laundry services; she washes everything per hand. Lee is proud of sending his daughter to school. His dream is to be able to buy his own tuk-tuk so as to be able to earn more money to support his family.
See an earlier video, from 28th March 2014, where Lee introduced himself (youtu.be/DpnjEO1oDkw).

Tuk-tuk Ride to Angkor Enterprise, Siem Reap, Cambodia
To learn the story behind this video, please click this link:
BUILDER’S JOURNAL presents:
TRAVELING AS IT IS! – is a compilation of raw unedited video footages of my traveling adventure. My concept of traveling is riding public transportation, a road trip from home to a job destination or just a stroll around the neighborhood. You can hear, feel and see the “REAL” sights & sounds of a place or destination that are usually not tourist trail. There is a lot of street food to taste, adventures to encounter, lots of local people to meet and sometimes fellow travelers wanting to share their own personal experiences. ENJOYING LIFE - AS IT IS!
Siem Reap City is the gateway to Angkor Temple Complex, the most popular tourist destination in Cambodia. You can purchase ticket to visit these magnificent man-made wonders at Angkor Enterprise building. This video features our tuk-tuk ride from our accommodation at Allis House to Angkor Enterprise showing some scenic tour around Siem Reap.
The fee for a 1(one) day tour of the Angkor Wat Temple complex is US$37 per visitor. 1(one) day rent for a tuk-tuk ride around the complex is US$ 25 plus tip and lunch meal of the driver (voluntary only). Some tourist rent bicycle or motorbikes. For a 1(one) day tour of Angkor, you’ll be visiting around 10 temples. And it’s super hot during the summer season so bring lots of water. The grandeur of these magnificent temples in real life is way beyond imagination.
