Zambian Fishing Trip on the Zambezi River
We took a trip south to Gwabi Lodge in Chirundu, Zambia. The fishing was ok, lots of bites but only one hook up. And the guide took the rod and lost the fish #fishingguidefail.
At least we got to see elephants, lions, hippos, and lots of other wildlife.

Olga's Project - Italian Corner (Livingstone, Zambia) - English.avi
On 1 September 2008 CeLIM launched Olga's - Italian Corner Restaurant in the city center of Livingstone.
How did the idea of an Italian restaurant (see Menu) in Livingstone, that can give a job to many young people who had a degree in YCTC Center born?
We have to be grateful to Lucia and Alessandro, two generous donors who inherited by Grandmother Olga her patrimony that should be used in a concrete and useful way. Lucia and Alessandro have followed step by step, together with volunteers, the dream becoming reality.
This project is strictly connected to the presence of CeLIM in Livingstone and to the strengthened trusty relationship with the Diocese. The YCTC Center and the high number of enrolled students of these last 5 years have laid the foundation to build a restaurant that can be not only a job opportunity for catering degreed students but also a place where handicraft, made in the Center, can be sold. The restaurant offers also sleeping accommodation for 12 people (in 6 tends) and a special and unique menu.
Olgas is a showcase for the trade of YCTC Center products, that allows to self-finance YCTC activities and to give job opportunity to many AIDS orphans.
Ilaria and Michele are two volunteers who since 2003 have followed every single step of the project, helped by the architects Stefania and Maria and the chefs Giuseppe, who still today is committed in training chefs, promoting the restaurant and accountancy.
Today Olgas employs 12 local people and some of them are former YCTC students.
Local volunteers are very satisfied, the promotion before the launching has attracted many customers made up of tourists and local people. The strengths of the project are several: low prices, quality and the uniqueness of Italian food in Livingstone.
The restaurant is open from 7 AM to 11 PM with shifts of 8 hours.
To have more information about Olgas project click olgasproject.com.
To make Olgas restaurant and YCTC Center totally independent, we still need your help. THANK YOU!

In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Zambia.
More information about the video content bellow:
1. Zambia is bordered by seven countries and was a former British colony known as Northern Rhodesia before independence.
2. Zambia’s Lake Kariba was Africa’s largest man-made lake until Egypt’s Aswan Dam was put up in 1971. Lake Kariba is so huge that in certain parts of it, unknowing visitors think they are looking at the ocean.
3. The country’s name Zambia was taken from the name of the Zambezi River and means “heart of all.”
4. Zambia’s capital, Lusaka, was originally planned to hold a mere 200,000 people. Today, Lusaka has a population of roughly 1.7 million.
5. Because of the Victoria Falls’ spray, the forest beside it receives “rain” 24 hours a day, seven days a week! If you look at the Victoria Falls’ mist from the correct angle, you will be able to see a circular rainbow. (Of course, all rainbows are really circular, but it is very seldom that we get to see more than the top half.)
6. Kafue national park is the oldest and largest national park in Zambia – it is roughly the same size as Wales, a country in the UK. Found in the centre of western Zambia and covering a massive 22,400 km2, it is largely left untouched by man, with vast areas of the bush remaining completely preserved.
7. There are 72 languages spoken in Zambia, from a range of different origins, including 18-19th century migration. Many of these are more widely regarded as dialects, and only seven of these languages have official status. Bemba, Nyanja, Lozi, Tonka, and Kaonde, Luvale and Luna, alongside modern English are taught in primary schools and used to write government publications. English is the first language of only 2% of Zambians but is the most commonly used second language.

Livingston must have been truly impressed. I was. Victoria Falls is a monster falls up close, wet and personal. This a small part of our road trip across Southern Africa. Victoria Falls Video Details
From the camp we could see the mist from the falls in the distance. Victoria Falls (The Smoke that Thunders) is a waterfall on the Zambezi River at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, is believed to have been the first European to view Victoria Falls on 16 November 1855.
While it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, Victoria Falls is classified as the largest, based on its combined width of 1,708 m (5,604 ft) and height of 108 m (354 ft), resulting in the world's largest sheet of falling water. Victoria Falls is roughly twice the height and well over twice the width of its Niagara’s Horseshoe Falls.
I wanted to see the falls from the sky so we checked out the local flight options. Nice but at $250 hour we opted for the walking option, just like Dr. Livingston did.
There is a small entrance fee to the falls area and then lots of walking opportunities that are up close (wet) and personal. We should have worn bathing suits.
The area is also popular for adventure junkies as a sign at the top of the falls points out “Do not to cross the river on foot.” Other options include bungee jumping.
After a day of fun it was time to get some maintenance done, gear up and head for the Namibian border the following day.
Trip Around Zambia
Over Christmas and New Years I went to visit my sister who is in the Peace Corps in Africa. Here's a compressed view of some of the things I experienced travelling through the towns of Lusaka, Chipata, Lundazi, Jimsangu, and Livingstone.
Victoria Falls, Zambia
Compilations video of Victoria Falls from multiple angles and distances along the track. Includes Boiling Pot and Knife-Edge Bridge. What I found particularly striking was that the local name for the falls is actually Mosi-oa-Tunya, which means the smoke that thunders. I think this is a really amazing demonstration of indigenous languages naming aspects of the natural world in ways that reflect the characteristics and sacredness of that particular subject, rather than the colonial approach of naming subjects after human people or events relevant to the colonial forces.

Top 10 Biggest Waterfalls In The World - The best places for travelers in 2019 - TohTohs
#Top10 Biggest, Largest Waterfalls In The World by #Tohtohs
Anyone who's seen a waterfall up close will agree that their majesty is almost indescribable. If even a small fall can inspire these feelings, imagine what it's like to look at the world's largest waterfall.
These are the 10 biggest falls on the planet, based on their width, rather than height or volume. Each one is wonderful in its own way.
#Inga Falls
Inga Falls, a 3,000-foot wide waterfall, is located on the Congo River, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It's a series of falls and rapids, which drops around 315 feet, but very gradually over a run of roughly 9 miles. However, the main, and most impressive, part of the falls drops around 70 feet in one go. There are hundreds of channels in these falls, separated out by a multitude of large rocks and small islands.
#Niagara Falls
Despite being relatively low on the list of the world's largest falls, Niagara Falls is undoubtedly the best known waterfall on the planet. It receives somewhere between 14 and 20 million visitors annually and has been the location for many foolhardy and daring feats, such as that performed by Annie Edson Taylor, who was the first person to survive a trip over the Niagara Falls in a barrel.
At 3,950 feet wide, it's far from the largest waterfall around, but it is the falls with the largest volume of water traveling through it. It has three separate parts: American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe, or Canadian, Falls.
#Chutes Wagenia
Chutes Wagenia is more commonly known as Kisangani Falls or Stanley Falls, the former of which is accurate, but less often used, and the latter of which stems from British colonial times, and is inaccurate but has been proliferated. It stretches 4,500 feet, across the whole of the width of the Lualaba River, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Despite its width, it's not an extremely visually impressive waterfall, only dropping 30 feet in total, with the highest single fall dropping just 15 feet.
#Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is a 5,600-foot wide waterfall located on Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. The river falls roughly 344 feet into a gorge made up of lateral volcanic dikes, which were formed as the river eroded the rock and soil of its bed.
#Vermilion Falls
Although Vermilion Falls does not drop from an impressive height, falling only 15 to 20 feet, it is the sixth biggest waterfall in the world, in terms of width, as it spans 6,000 feet across. It's located along Peace River, in Northern Alberta, Canada, which is an otherwise still and, as the name suggests, peaceful river. It's likely that the rural nature of its location has stopped it from becoming too well known or much of a tourist attraction. However, if you can make it out there, it's an impressive sight to behold.
#Saltos del Mocono
Saltos del Mocono is part of the River Uruguay in Argentina. It's amongst the most unique of all large-river waterfalls, as it drops down a 6,000-foot trough that has been carved lengthways into a basaltic formation. This makes it almost a full 180 degree semi-circle of waterfall. This 6,775-foot wide waterfall drops down roughly 35 feet. Although the majority of the waterfall is in Argentina, some actually lies in Brazil, which is where most of the best viewpoint for the falls are.
#Cataratas del Iguazo
South America's Cataratas del Iguazo is also known as Iguazo Falls. Part of the Rio Iguazo, the falls straddle the border between Argentina and Brazil. This 8,800-foot wide waterfall drops rough 269 feet. Most of the river fall down into an area known as Garganta del Diablo, or The Devil's Throat, but the rest spreads out over a wide, flat shelf, splitting into hundreds of individual falls.
#Chutes Kongou
Also known as Kongou Falls, Chutes Kongou measures 10,500 feet wide, making it the world's third largest existing waterfall. It's part of the Ivindo River in Gabon, and is roughly 185 feet tall. Amongst the most powerful waterfalls in the world, roughly 31,800 cubic feet of water flow down it each second.
#Salto Para
Salto Para, or Para Falls, is an 18,400-foot wide waterfall on the Rio Caura in the Bolivar region of Venezuela. These half-moon shaped falls are formed where two parts of the river come together and drop down almost 200 feet, each side of a lush, green jungle island.
#Chutes de Khone
Chutes de Khone – also known at Khone Falls – is the largest waterfall in the world. At 35,376 feet wide, it's almost twice the width of it next largest competitor. The falls are part of the Mekong river in Laos, and occur where the river splits into seven large channels and many more smaller ones. It's made up of several different rapids and falls, cascading down 69 feet. The most defined part of the waterfall is a 45-foot drop, at a 60 degree angle.
