Kingfishing In The Sport Fishing Capital Of The World - Islamorada, Florida
We were on the fishing docks at Whale Harbor in Islamorada, Florida in early February of 1997 looking to schedule a charter boat for the day when we encountered a couple that was wanting to go offshore fishing, but they were wanting another couple to split the cost of the trip that very day with them. It seemed like a good idea because we hadn't fished with any of these captains at Whale Harbor in the sport fishing capital of the world before, so we agreed to go with them. My wife, Lyn, and I grabbed a day bag out of the Tahoe and were welcomed aboard a ship called Skipper by Capt. Paul O'Donnell and off we went. We made a short stop to cast a throw net for some fresh ballyhoo that the mate was going to rig for us. From there, it appeared we were heading towards a well-known spot in the Keys called The Hump. We each caught several king mackerel or kingfish and kings as they are known in the Florida Keys. We had a great time and scheduled another trip with Paul about a week later. I have another short video on my channel of that trip, too.

Habitat and Fishing Tips:
Sheepshead are commonly found in brackish water river mouths, bays, estuaries and tidal creeks and especially near oyster bars, buoys, channel markers, piers and bridge piles where food is plentiful. Sheepshead feed primarily on crustaceans, mollusks, barnacles and small fish. Anglers typically use light to medium weight spinning tackle with shrimp, sand fleas or small crabs as bait. Using their specially adapted (human like) incisors and crushing molars, sheepshead can be difficult to hook and have an uncanny ability to clean a hook without you knowing anything happened. When targeting sheepshead, it is very important to keep your line tight and be ready for the bite because you often get one, and only one, chance to set the hook. The food quality of sheepshead is very good, and they are one of the only fish that can smile back at you during the picture!

Fishing the Flats for Science - Full Episode
Flats fishing is popular with recreational anglers in the Caribbean and the Florida Keys. But until recently, little was known about tarpon, bonefish and permit – the species most coveted by sports fishermen. Fly Fishing the Florida Keys best places to wade & best fish caught on fly in the Florida Keys
All pictures by Casey Smith
Do you love fly fishing? Do you love saltwater fly fishing? Have you ever wanted to fly fish the Florida Keys but didn't know where to go or what kind of fish to catch there? Do you want to know if the upper Keys or the lower Keys is better for fly fishing? Do you wonder how hard it is to catch fish on the fly in the Florida Keys? Do you wonder how easy or hard it is to fly fish the Florida Keys without a boat and only wading? If so, this interview will answer these questions and more from one man's perspective who spent 4-6 hours per day, 7 days a week fly fishing in the Florida Keys for almost 2 months straight. He spent almost half the time each day on exploring and finding places to fly fish in the Keys. He also employed a charter boat company that showed him a successful and enjoyable day fly fishing in the Keys.

Shark Safety - Fishing
In Southern California, we have a growing white shark population and our coastal waters, particularly our beaches, are nursery habitat for juvenile white sharks. Fishermen need to know:
1. It’s illegal to fish for white sharks.
2. Don’t fish for sharks during the day around piers or public beaches.
3. Use monofilament line that will break if you hook something large like a juvenile white shark and always use corrodible hooks.
4. If you hook a white shark, cut the line as close to the leader as possible – the hook will rot out.
5. Don’t chum off public piers and beaches – just a little bait goes a long way and will do the trick.
6. White sharks are important to our coastal ocean and beach communities – they eat stingrays, seal and sea lions and we need them to keep our oceans healthy.

Fish the outlet of Jewfish Basin. Usually during winter there is a great bite for the different Mackerel (Cero, Spanish, King). It is usually based on chumming up Ballyhoo and the Macs will follow. It took a while as there was an incoming most of the evening but as soon as it switched and there was an outgoing, the bite turned on. Unfortunately it was right at sunset and with that, the Ballyhoo disappeared and again the Macs followed. It is always a crazy outing with one person, trying to rig wire setups, catch bait, hook and fight the fish, and re-rig when you lose. I gotta figure out a better system. Still. I pulled a couple of nice ones and it left me hungry for more. Ballyhoo for the win.

Sportsman's Adventures: Pat Ford Trout Season 12 | Episode 5
On today's Sportsman's Adventures we'll spend the day fishing with two of South Florida's top anglers. When these two aren't out chasing records or trophies and just want to get away and have a fun day on the water…where do they go ?? Since Florida is the fishing capitol of the world…the options are unlimited. But for Capt. Rick Murphy and Pat Ford the answer is easy…It's the Everglades Ntl Park and Flamingo of course! There is no fishing hole quite like Flamingo. This remote outpost is located on the southern most tip of the Florida peninsula where the mangrove marshlands meet the great estuary of Florida Bay. You can catch fish here on just about any given day. Snook, redfish and tarpon are the main attractions but don't forget about the seatrout….one of Florida's most reliable and delectable fish. For many years the trout has been Florida's # 1 most sought after inshore gamefish and thanks to the States' strong conservation effort, the trout population remains strong. There are numerous pot holes and small channels that lie within a few miles from the Flamingo dock that hold huge numbers of trout year round. These trout do not run as large as those caught on Florida's central coast but on a cool winter day like today… the action should be hot..!
