Dolphins in the Menai Strait Anglesey Wales UK
A big thanks to my cousin Dave Welling and his wife Rosetta for letting Deborah and I sail as guests with them on their sailing boat Tranquility on the Menai Strait off Anglesey...... and having Dolphins swim along with the boat for one and a half hours entertaining us as we sailed. Fantastic and a so memorable and magical experience. A fab weekend.

Places to see in ( Island of Anglesey - UK )
Anglesey is an island in Wales, off the mainland's northwest coast. It's known for its beaches and ancient sites. The island is accessed by the 19th-century Menai Suspension Bridge and the Britannia Bridge, rebuilt in the 20th century. In the medieval town of Beaumaris, 13th-century Beaumaris Castle has concentric fortifications and a moat. Beaumaris Gaol has Victorian punishment cells and an original tread wheel.
Anglesey is an island off the north-west coast of Wales. With an area of 276 square miles (715 km2), Anglesey is by far the largest island in Wales and the seventh largest in the British Isles. Anglesey is also the largest island in the Irish Sea by area, and the second most populous island (after the Isle of Man). Two bridges span the Menai Strait, connecting the island to the mainland: the Menai Suspension Bridge, designed by Thomas Telford in 1826, and the Britannia Bridge. A historic county of Wales and later administrated as part of Gwynedd, Anglesey today makes up the Isle of Anglesey County along with Holy Island and other smaller islands. The majority of Anglesey's inhabitants are Welsh speakers and Ynys Môn, the Welsh name for the island, is used for the UK Parliament and National Assembly constituencies.
Anglesey is a relatively low-lying island, with low hills spaced evenly over the north of the island. The highest six are: Holyhead Mountain (220 metres (720 ft)); Mynydd Bodafon (178 metres (584 ft)); Mynydd Llaneilian (177 metres (581 ft)); Mynydd y Garn (170 metres (560 ft)); Bwrdd Arthur (164 metres (538 ft)) and Mynydd Llwydiarth (158 metres (518 ft)). To the south/south-east the island is separated from the Welsh mainland by the Menai Strait, which at its narrowest point is about 250 metres (270 yd) wide. In all other directions the island is surrounded by the Irish Sea. It is the 51st largest island in Europe.
There are several small towns scattered around the island, making it quite evenly populated. The largest towns are Holyhead, Llangefni, Benllech, Menai Bridge, and Amlwch. Beaumaris (Welsh: Biwmares), in the east of the island, features Beaumaris Castle, built by Edward I as part of his Bastide Town campaign in North Wales. Beaumaris is a yachting centre, with many boats moored in the bay or off Gallows Point. The village of Newborough (Welsh: Niwbwrch), in the south, created when the townsfolk of Llanfaes were relocated to make way for the building of Beaumaris Castle, includes the site of Llys Rhosyr, another of the courts of the medieval Welsh princes, which features one of the oldest courtrooms in the United Kingdom.
There are a few natural lakes, mostly in the west, such as Llyn Llywenan, the largest natural lake on the island, Llyn Coron, and Cors Cerrig y Daran, but rivers are few and small. There are two large water supply reservoirs operated by Welsh Water. These are Llyn Alaw to the north of the island and Llyn Cefni in the centre of the island, which is fed by the headwaters of the afon Cefni.

WOW Sailing Adventure on Menai Straits Anglesey to Beaumaris, North Wales Sept 2019
You would not be blamed to believe that it is some caribbean sea, but it's only Anglesey. In fact we are arriving at Beaumaris, North Wales on a wonderful September 2019 sunny day aboard a lugger, 1830's replica built in Falmouth, sailed home Charles around Cornwall.
Nelson said that the Menai Straits has treacherous waters.
We left Bangor, North Wales, harbor by engine but we stop it as soon as we were out in the straits.
It was not any problem with the engines but I wanted to learn to sail. The captain Charles started teach us the basics as the name of everything left and right side, name of the sails.
He was showing us how to judge / calculate the wind direction and strength, release the jib and the main sail. How to avoid the boom, etc. After this, to avoid overloading with information we relaxed.
Good wind and perfect sun.
Due to a few kwells I could enjoy the trip without the technical yawn.
Quick walk in Beaumaris on Anglesey, its a quiet spring day
A lovely walk through Beaumaris and down the Pier and along the front. Part of the Anglesey Coastal Path goes through Beaumaris. The boat passing the Pier is the Prince Madog from the School of Ocean Science from Menai Bridge.
The Castle in Beaumaris was built 13th-century by Edward I.

RibRide Round Anglesey Record Attempt 28 March 2019
On Thursday 28 March 2019 the RibRide team made a ‘Round Anglesey Record’ attempt. Loggin at time of ‘one hour one minute and 16 seconds’. Starting and finishing at Beaumaris Pier, Skipper Charles was at the helm with Skipper Phil as navigator.
They went in an anti-clockwise direction at low-tide and slack water.
The distance was 65 Nautical Miles at an average speed of 61 Knots. It is hoped that this record will be ratified by the British Power Boat Association and Union Internationale Motonautique.
RibRide VELOCITY is no ordinary boat, it is an adrenaline-fuelled fast-moving passenger RIB
In fact the RIB made the record attempt in the morning and went out with passenger in the afternoon.
It's an amazing RIB from: Ribquest, Petter Martens at Berserk Design and Yamaha Marine UK.
With thanks to OCRDA and TDL Event Services
And: Gecko Helmets, Ocean Safety, Garmin, SKYDEX, Scot Seats, Henshaws, SBS Trailers and Hypro Marine.
The VELOCITY project is part-funded through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Union. #FindYourEpic #VisitWales

[55] - Navigating The Swellies - Menai Strait - North Wales
We have to navigate the notorious Swellies in the Menai Strait which is noted for the difficulty in navigating it. It has shoals, rocks, surges and (occasionally) whirlpools and planning your passage through it requires careful study of all the pilotage marks that have been installed over the years.
As if it was not difficult enough, it seems to have sprouted a new hazard as Jet skis and RIB thrill-seekers now tear through and often approach yachts closely, presumably to give the paying punters a good view, but the wake turbulence they cause is very unpleasant and you cannot manoeuvre to avoid it.
