The Annah Rais longhouse near the Sarawak-Kalimantan Indonesia border in Padawan is one of the last surviving longhouses of the Bidayuh community with its dwellers still observing age-old tradition and culture.
The massive longhouse is interconnected by a wooden or bamboo walkway, which is the main common area where families would sit around and talk and kids play. Annah Rais is so huge that it seems like one entire village is connected together with home run restaurants, grocery shops and the local homegrown products.

Annah Rais Longhouse is a large & old Bidayuh Tribe's Longhouse that houses over 80 families. Majority of the us here are still live in a traditional way of longhouse's living. It has 175 years old written history to date. Visitor may participate in our Longhouse Adventure Program, which include longhouse accommodation, traditional meals & tours to surrounding tropical rainforest in search for astonishing waterfalls & natural Hot Spring.

With musical performances, dances, rituals, to arts and crafts as well as traditional food and homemade rice wine, the far-flung celebration offers people especially tourists and visitors an opportunity to experience and feel the charm of Gawai's traditions and culture.
Annah Rais longhouse is the oldest Bidayuh longhouse in Sarawak with most of its traditional structure still being preserved and maintained until today. Located about 60km from the city, Annah Rais is among the popular tourist spots in Kuching.
Ben Fogle's Sarawak Adventures - Longhouse experience at ANNAH RAIS
In this three minute video we see adventurer and explorer Ben Fogle spend some time at an authentic longhouse. Escorted by his amazingly knowledgeable guide, Rose, he savours the local brew -- a rice wine called 'Tuak' which is particularly potent, enjoys a delicious chicken meal cooked for him in 20 minutes in bamboo, tries his hand at being a blacksmith's apprentice, discovers the secrets to the blowpipes and how to make the arrows and also listens to some local musicians. They play him some music using bamboo instruments that have been used for hundreds of years, having been passed down through the generations and played by striking, plucking and drumming.
Overall it is clear, as Ben points out at the end, that Longhouse living is a wonderfully communal existence where all the families live together in peaceful harmony.

Annah Rais Longhouse is located at about 60km away from Kuching, Sarawak. It is a Bidayuh Tribe's Longhouse. Outside the longhouse, there is a traditional sugarcane crusher. Here you can learn how to crushing sugarcane in a tradtional way to get the sugarcane juice or make into sugar.
