Annamoe
Slow ballad by Simon Oak about the little village of Annamoe, near Glendalough, made in the spirit of the late Liam Hawkins, a great community man, who did all he could to put his forgotten village on the map.
The recording is outdated. Line 7 of the second verse should be sung as: That's where boys like Liam Hawkins, the Curleys and the Byrnes
Lyrics:
If you visit the Mountains of Wicklow one day
There's a village you cannot ignore
Where the clear crystal water streams swell on their way
Down the slopes to fill the Avenmore
You'll find warm kitchen tables with tea, milk and more
And a shelter to wait for the sun
Lend an ear to the stories about the days of yore
And of how the people there have fun
Take the long road from Dublin to magic Glendalough
And when Roundwood has bid you farewell
Derralossary Church where no longer people flock
Shows you stones of those that tried so well
When you come to the bridge over the river Inchavore
Have a look at that broken alley wall
That's where boys like Liam Hawkins, the Curleys and the Byrnes
Long ago were masters of the ball
Chorus:
O where'er you wanna go, once you've been to Annamoe
Your life will never be the same as before
Annamoe you're in my heart and the very day we part
I long to be with you again
Buy a horse brass medallion at that little antique shop
Nose around, have a chat and a tea
The Doctor's House, the Old Forge, all places worth a stop
Catch a rainbow at the trout fishery
You might see the Tractor Run or the Pure Mile Crawl
Explore the hills on a bike or a horse
Meditate or play a ball in Annamoe's Community Hall
You'll get caught, there will be no remorse
Chorus
From the Scarr, the Ballinacorbeg or Trooperstown Hill
Be amazed by the wild blooming scene
Overwhelmed by it's beauty you'll enjoy a mighty thrill
That's Annamoe then you'll know what I mean
Chorus

Fishing for Rainbow Trout at a Trout Fishery
Good days fishing at a rainbow trout fishery for our first time ever going to one! We were using the worms in the smaller bait pond and all together we caught 3 fish and missed 2, one of them being probably the biggest fish in that pond (5lb atleast). will definitely be hitting up another fishery again soon, great sport for sure.

Nestling in the tiny village of Annamoe, on the way to the ancient monastic site of Glendalough (7 minutes distant by car), this extended traditional 19th century cottage is a rare find.
Sisceal, which means Fairy Story, is located in an area rich in mountains and lakes, only 25 miles from Dublin city centre, yet deep in the heart of spectacular Wicklow scenery.
Sisceal is a rural cottage with a large back garden and plenty of privacy, yet in a community setting in the centre of the village. This is ideal for those who want the lot: rural life and scenery, but without the isolation, and with easy access to the city.
The cottage looks small from the front but has been handsomely extended and has three large living spaces (kitchen and 2 sitting rooms) and a huge amount of loft storage etc, plus outbuildings. It is set on an acre which includes a backyard area with shrubs and a rockery, a small lawn with specimen trees, and a considerable open grassed space, which contains some fruit trees and bushes, and which has great potential for horticulture and recreation. It rises at the end to the best viewpoint on the property.
We are probably the only village in Ireland without a pub!
Glendalough, an ancient Monastic site and one of most visited sites in Ireland, Lough Dan, Sally Gap and the Wicklow Way are all within 10 minutes drive! The highest village in Ireland, Roundwood is 3 km away. If you don't want to drive, the St. Kevins Bus Service will take you into Bray or Dublin. You can literally wait at your door.
A river runs through it........fish for brown and rainbow trout by walking across the road to the Annamoe Fly Fishery
The cottage has been lovingly restored over the years. An extensive use of pine, tiles and natural light has created a warm and bright living environment.
The Reception lounge has a marble fireplace inset over a Liscannor stone hearth with log nook.
The kitchen has built-in glazed cupboards, tiled work areas and a lofted pine ceiling. A service hatch opens into the lounge.
The Garden Room is floored in wood block with a pine ceiling and three large west facing picture windows overlook an acre of gardens outside.
There are 3 bedrooms, one converted to office at the moment. With adjoining shower, WC and bidet. The bathroom accommodates a large double bath.
Outside, there is a small well planted front garden with flower beds, as well as a gravelled side entrance with parking for 3 cars.
The property also includes a secluded large rear garden surrounded by mature trees...beautiful Horse Chestnut and Magnolia, fruit trees and bushes. The vegetable plot provided food all year round for the family.
There is a newly re-furbished detached Annexe incorporating two bedrooms, shower, WC and WHB.
