Green Gables Heritage Place makes a great day trip from Charlottetown PEI. It was the inspiration for the setting of the 1908 novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables. I worked there for several summers, so let me share my knowledge with you, recapping the story and touring the house! For more details about the author, the site, and tips for visiting please visit:

From the Land of Anne with an (e) comes Islanders and the Land
Islanders and the Land – a video documentary of how the people of Prince Edward Island have struggled to keep land in the hands of communities. It explores the history of resistance on the Island of over two centuries as communities have fought for the land to be liberated from the encroachment of Lords of the Land. It follows the words of Reg Phelan, author of the book Islanders and the Land, who said “The Islanders' struggle for land in the 19th century is crucial to an understanding of the appreciation and ties to the land today. This history which has stayed alive against heavy odds informs our present attitudes and perceptions of development”. This documentary looks at how land grabbing and concentration and corporate control over inputs and outputs of the farm economy pose a massive threat to farm communities in Canada. It shows how we can learn from the people of Prince Edward Island in building a national resistance and alternatives to the industrial agricultural model.
We thank very much the people of the Island and the National Farmers Union for their warm hospitality and interest in supporting this video documentary.

Anne of Green Gables in PEI on the Feed My Soul Tour
I had a chance to visit my dream location in Canada!!
Green Gables in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, the home of Lucy Maud Montgomery's MacNeill cousins and the inspiration for the Cuthbert home in Anne of Green Gables. The house and grounds are now a National Historic Site.
“All the time I was ironing, I was trying to think of a name for a new island Diana and I have discovered up the brook. It’s the most ravishing spot, Marilla. There are two maple trees on it and the brook flows right around it. At last it struck me that it would be splendid to name it Victoria Island because we found it on the Queen’s birthday. Both Diana and I are very loyal.” — Anne Of Green Gables(1908), Lucy Maud Montgomery.
Anne of Green Gables 50th Anniversary Reunion (Toronto, 2015)
Ice-cream, puff-sleeves and raspberry cordial live in the hearts of anyone and everyone who has ever performed in the Charlottetown Festival's musical production of Anne of Green Gables. I put together this little home-movie for the 'kindred spirits' who met-up for our very first reunion (after several decades), on May 3rd, in Toronto.
The musical is based on the novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The book is by Don Harron, the music is by Norman Campbell and the lyrics by Don Harron, Norman Campbell, Elaine Campbell and Mavor Moore. The show was originally choreography and directed by Alan Lund. It has been performed continuously ever since 1965, making it Canada's longest-running musical. In March 2014, the production was officially recognized as the longest running annual musical theatre production in the world by Guinness World Records.

Green Gables Heritage Place
In July 2016 I visited Green Gables, located in Cavendish in the Prince Edward Island National Park. Each year hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world visit the site which inspired the setting for L.M. Montgomery to create her beloved tale of a red-haired orphan, Anne of Green Gables.
Anne of Green Gables In-Depth House Tour - Prince Edward Island
This video was filmed at the actual home that inspired the Anne of Green Gables and other books in the series. The farm is located in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island near the northern part of the island. It’s a beautiful drive coming from Charlottetown as you’ll pass through rolling farmlands, tiny fishing villages and see stunning seascapes (with red rocks like seen in the movie). The house is fully furnished and decorated as it would have been in the period of the books. If you’re an Anne of Green Gables fan and coming from a cruise ship, then if possible you’ll want to rent a car to come here rather than take a bus tour since none of the bus tours stay long enough for the true fan to adequately soak up the area and also visit the sizeable gift shop. One complaint about this is that they developed a golf course way too close to the farm. I don’t mind the course, but put it a few more acres away to create a buffer. Anyways, if you enjoyed this Anne of Green Gables House Tour video then make sure to give it a thumbs up or post a comment below if you’ve been here or want to go!
