We enjoyed our fantastic Railtours Ireland three day adventure from Dublin. A special thank you to Norman our attentive, funny and informative guide who showed us the Irish countryside in style. The food, the travel, the accommodations and the tours were all top quality and it was the highlight of our trip to Ireland.
After arriving in Cork, Ireland’s third largest city, on Irish Rail, which included a fabulous full Irish breakfast, we went on by bus to visit the Blarney Castle and Gardens with the famous Blarney Stone.
Blarney Castle and Gardens
Blarney Castle was built in 1446. Kiss the famous stone for the gift of eloquence.
The Blarney Gardens include the Poison Garden, Fern Garden, Herbaceous Border, Woodlands, Bog Garden and Himalayan Walk.
Next stop was Cobh where the R.M.S. Titanic made its last port of call.
The Cobh Heritage Center exhibits the Queenstown Story which tells the story of the Irish Emigration and Famine, the Titanic, the Lusitania Exhibition and the naval and military history of the area. Cobh was known from 1849 until 1920 as Queenstown.
Annie Moore was the first Irish person to register as an immigrant at Ellis Island.
The beautiful town of Cobh
Our hotel accommodations were at The International Hotel in Killarney which is a four star family owned hotel with historical charm and modern day conveniences.
The next day we drove along the Ring of Kerry. The natural pristine countryside with sheep grazing on gently rolling hills of green draws tourists to the area. You can stop at one of the picturesque villages such as Waterville and Sneem along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.
Ladies View and the Lakes of Killarney
Lunch at the Scarriff Inn and Restaurant in Kerry
Kells Sheep Center
The last day we enjoyed seeing Bunratty Castle and the Cliffs of Moher
Bunratty Castle completed in 1425. There are fantastic views at the top once you climb the spiral staircases in this medieval castle.
Lunch at O’Connor’s Pub in Doolin which is a coastal village in Country Clare.
Cliff of Moher, among the highest sea cliffs in Western Europe. This is Ireland’s second most popular tourist destination.
The Burren
We drove the coast road along The Burren toward Galway. The Burren is a national park meaning “rocky place”.

Thank you Norman and Railtours Ireland for an unforgettable adventure!
The sinking of the the Cunard Liner the Lusitania on May 7th 1915 resulted in the deaths of 1,198 of the 1,959 people aboard. It was torpedoed off the Old Head of Kinsale County Cork, by the Germans during World War I.
Many of the victims were brought to Cobh and many are interred in the Old Church Graveyard near Cobh town. The monument, which is in Casement Square in the town centre, designed by Jerome O'Connor commemorates those who died in the tragedy. It depicts two fisherman who went to the rescue of the ill fated liner. Over them is the Angel of Peace.
The event turned public opinion in many countries against Germany, contributed to the American entry into World War I and became an iconic symbol in military recruiting campaigns of why the war was being fought.

Cobh, County Cork | Irland

2009 Polar Bear Challenge . A Bit of History # 6
Ride 6 of the Polar Bear Challenge. Audio improves. Drive from Cork to Cobh and then onto Youghal before returning.Cobh (pronounced Cove ) is one of the towns of Cork harbour and is the second largest natural harbour in the world after Sydney Australia. Cobh was the last port of call for the Titanic before her fateful journey. She anchored at the mouth of the harbour and tugs carried mail and passengers to the ship, and for some lucky ones off the ship, before she set sail for her destiny rather than destination. When the Lusitania was torpedoed off the Cork coast many of the survivors and indeed the dead were brought ashore at Cobh. There is a memorial in the centre of the town to those who perished and many of them are buried in a plot in the town cemetery. Many thousands of Irish emigrants would have left these quays in search of a better life or on the so called coffin ships when fleeing the famine in 1845 which near halved the population of Ireland. Those who left knew there was little or no chance of ever seeing the families they left behind again.
Youghal( pronounced.. Y'all ) is a coastal town on the Cork / Waterford border. It is a popular holiday seaside village with a long beach. Walter Raleigh who legend has it was the first man to plant potatoes in Ireland in the late 1500's had a residence in the town and was also Mayor of the town.
Starting mileage 42989 and finished 101 miles later at 43090.
Annie I Will Take You Home by Miami Beat with lyrics
Now available on iTunes.
Miami Beat might seem a strange name for an Irish group but it is derived from the name of their original band, The Miami Showband, one of Ireland's most popular bands of the Sixties and Seventies.
Although “The Miami was a hugely successful, modern, pop-group in their day and the bulk of their original compositions reflected their youthful vibrancy, bass-guitarist Stephen Travers and singer-saxophonist Des Lee also wanted to produce a song in the classic Irish Country/Folk vein and so, at the beginning of 2016, they reunited to record this original song and realised yet another long-held ambition.
They’ve dedicated this song to all emigrants and refugees fleeing poverty, injustice and war and they present it as a timely reminder that the Irish too were in the same boat not so long ago.
The artwork, by Philip Melly, on the CD cover features the statue of Annie Moore and her two brothers, Anthony and Philip, on the quayside in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. Anna “Annie” Moore was the first immigrant to the United States to pass through the Ellis Island facility in New York Harbour.

Don't Do That Annie Moore : How To Be Confident
People ask em all the time.. How are you so confident all the time? And let me tell you people, it was a process. I didn't wake up one day and decide I love myself and that was the end of it. I decided to do this video no makeup, hair a mess, in sweats to show that confidence isn't ALL about how you look, but about your worth, identity, and inner peace. Here's my story and a couple things you can do to help with your confidence.
