We’re in Portugal and here’s our top 5 things to do in the Algarve.
Hike the jaw droppingly beautiful coastline. I can recommend a route that start at Lagos and end ups at the Ponta da Piedade lighthouse, which is just a few kilometers south of the town. You’ll witness golden rock formations, turquoise waters and dramatic landscapes that will leave you wanting to walk for days on end. Admittedly, the lighthouse itself is a little underwhelming, but don’t let it put you off, the views of the horizon make up for it in bucketloads.
The Algarve is big and beautiful, and takes nearly 2 hours to drive from one end to the other, and there’s a lot to see, so if you want to outside your hotel and do it in your own time, then hiring a car can be the best way to do this. The minimum age to hire a car in Portugal is 18 years old, and you must have held your driving license for at least a year. If you’re British then just remember to drive on the righthand side, and a little rhyme that I like to use is right is right! We hired a car through Holiday Extras and you can do this by clicking on the link below.
If you’re holidaying in the Algarve then you’re never far away from the beach, and let’s face it, it’s a must. There are some great options to choose from, so here’s our top 3: Praia Da Gale is a huge beach with a sandy stretch that goes on for miles. It’s simple and has a rustic feel to it, which in my opinion makes it great, as it’s a the perfect contrast to the busy hotel resort area just up the road in Albufeira.
Praia de Sao Rafael is a gorgeous beach that will not disappoint. It’s a 15 minute drive from Albufeira but worth a day trip to sunbathing on the golden sands, rounded by stunning cliff drops and also take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean. The famous rock formations and the water also make it quite the beauty spot, due to the years of erosion that have given the rocks their unusual shape and colour.
Praia de Benagil is a smaller beach located in the fishing village of Benagil, and just around the corner from those famous caves. The limestones cliffs that surround the beach offer shelter from the wind, but the only downside is there isn’t any official parking here, so be prepared to have to park your car a little way away and walk there.
Fancy a spot of golf? The Algarve is famous for its golf courses and is one of Europe’s leading golf holiday destinations. There’s around 35 golf clubs in the Algarve zone, so you can be sure to find a golf club that caters to your level. And thankfully for me, we’ve found where beginners were welcome!
And finally, explore Albufeira old town. If you’re driving there, I recommend parking your car at the top of the hill and then walk down the winding streets, finding local shops selling Portuguese gifts. The streets open up to a square that is surrounded by restaurants and hosts live music, people dancing and enjoying the sunshine. It’s a great place to have lunch and simply soak in everything that’s going on. Just be openminded to the fact that this town now majorly caters for tourists of all nationalities, so menus aren’t very traditional in this area.
As you can see, we loved exploring this beautiful coastline and don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more videos on Portugal and other destinations around the world.
10 Days in Portugal: Lisbon, Algarve, Cascais, Sintra, Porto | The Travel Intern
Some of you guys were asking about Portugal ever since our Destination Unknown: Portugal episode was out! Well, fret no more, here is a comprehensive 10-day itinerary you can follow when you head over to the beautiful country:
Culture, beautiful architecture and nature. Portugal is definitely Europe's best kept secrets.
LISBON
00:25 - Pasteis de Belem
Are you really in Portugal if you don't try a Portuguese egg tart? :-) We received so many recommendations from locals themselves to visit this place. It is actually one of the oldest Portuguese egg tart shops around!
00:33 - Belem Tower
00:36 - Jeronimos Monastery
These two sights are truly sights to behold. Learn more about the history of Lisbon here!
00:41 - Praco do Comercio
Kinda like the city hall area of Lisbon, locals and tourists alike gather here to window shop, watch buskers do their thangggg and simply just to chill.
00:47 - Santa Justa Lift
This lift was built in the past to ease the amount of stairs in the past, where you get to see a beautiful panoramic view of the city from the top! But remember that a lot of people want to head up there, so it's better to go during non-peak hours.
00:51 - Rua Nova do Carvalho
Known as the pink street of Lisbon, it used to be the area that housed the red light district of Lisbon in the past, but has since been converted to a home for cozy cafes and modern pubs and bars.
00:57 - The Sanctuary of Christ the King
A definite must-visit when you're in Portugal!
ALGARVE REGION
01:07 - Praia da Rocha
Amazing sunset views can be enjoyed from this beautiful beach. It does get pretty crowded, but there's always a space for everyone and anyone. :-)
01:13 - Wildwatch Tour — Benagil Cave
This boat tour includes a short kayaking session, one of the highlights is definitely kayaking into the Benagil Cave. It is known to be one of the most beautiful sea caves in the world!
01:30 - Pinhao Beach
Soak up some sun here, and navigate through cliff formations to get to different areas of the beach! Be careful of the tide level though.
CASCAIS & SINTRA
01:36 - Shoreline path of Cascais, Guincho Beach
If you're in Cascais, you definitely have to cycle along the popular shoreline path from downtown Cascais to Guincho Beach. The views you get of the shoreline are simply breathtaking.
01:44 - Pena Palace
Perched atop one of the highest points in the quaint city of Sintra, this palace was built and painted so colourfully so that it could grab everyone's attention no matter where you stood in Sintra.
01:50 - Moorish Castle
Built in the medieval times, the Moorish Castle served as a watchtower in the past.
01:55 - Quinta de Regalaria
It took us pretty long to find this place because it was nestled deep in the parks. But it was well worth it. There's just a mystical feel to it.
02:02 - Cabo da Roca
The westernmost point of Europe, here we have a lookout point with a beautiful lighthouse overlooking the ocean.
02:09 - Marisco na Praca
You can pick and choose from a seafood bar here, but be sure to try the seafood rice! It was our favourite.
PORTO
02:17 - Sao Bento Railway Station
Get introduced to the beautiful azulejo tiles of Porto at the railway station here!
02:23 - Cafe Santiago
Just like in Lisbon, are you really in Porto if you haven't tried the local delight, Francesinha?
02:30 - Porto Cathedral
Discover one of the city's oldest cathedrals, open to public to simply sight-see or join in their service.
02:37 - Palacio de Cristal
We highly recommend setting up a picnic here, and catching the sunset overlooking downtown Porto.
02:46 - Duoro Valley Day Tour
Go on a wine-tasting day tour to try different kinds of port wine! If you fancy sweeter-tasting wines, this is definitely the tour for you to take.
02:51 - Livariao Lello
This bookstore is said to have inspired JK Rowling to start on the Harry Potter series. There is an entrance fee and a long queue to get in though, so be prepared!
02:59 - Tile Making Tour
You'll get to see thousands of tiles lining the walls of buildings all across Porto, why not make your own too? Learn from a local in Porto!
03:03 - Ribeira Square
End your trip at one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Porto. The sunset here is also not to be missed!
Have you ever been to Portugal? And would you like to? Tell us! :-)
If you haven't already watched it, catch our Destination Unknown series' episode on Portugal, link to it at the end of the video! :-D

Portugal Father Daughter Trip: Jack Whitehall Travels With My Father - You Got Nothing On Us!
Who doesn't want their daughter to clown on them? In all seriousness when you have the opportunity to take a trip with your daughter, it's nothing short of amazing. Pulling one straight from the Jack Whitehall Travels with My Father my daughter took the reins on editing this trip as we travel into Lisbon, down to Lagos, Faro, and Tavira. The food, drink, adventure, and people were wonderful. The cliffs of the Ponta da Piedade headland is an amazing attribute of the Algarve. This dramatic limestone coastline is formed of sea pillars, fragile rock arches and hidden grottos, all of which have been chiseled out by savage winter storms. In the spirit of HALF-LIFE we manage to weave in some exercise as well as a surf session in the Algarve. Of course loading the surfboard onto our Fiat 500 bordered on the ridiculous but what better way to embarrass my daughter and ensure some level of Jack Whitehall embarrassment....just in reverse.
Our hope is that this video can inspire a father-daughter trip of your own. If you take one, please send us video footage or pictures for us to post on our Instagram @halflifet.5 or onto this YouTube channel.
Thank you for watching and please subscribe to our channel.
Cheers!

Portugal: Bus, Train And Boat Ride
I am just back from a fantastic trip to the Algarve, and I made this video just to show off some of the clips from my travels round the region.
The Bus and Train clips were taken on a day trip from Albufeira to Tavira, via Faro.
The Bus ride was from Albufeira to Faro, where we then got the train the rest of the way to Tavira, the weather was fantastic, and I got lots of amazing photos of the area.
The Boat ride was the Cave Tour that leaves from Albufeira Marina, and goes along the coast, the cave at the end is the famous Lighthouse Cave the largest cave in the Algarve, and it is a spectacular sight to behold.
