Anping Old Street was the first street in Taiwan to be given a name. More than 300 years ago this was the first street built by the Dutch in Anping. In the early days, the street was built solely for pedestrians and push carts due to the fact that the street was narrow and there was not that much space to navigate. Many tourists coming to Anping must visit this street, and the noisy and bustling environment of Anping Old Street is one of its hallmarks. The street features all kinds of old stalls and shops, and regardless of whether you are a domestic or foreign visitor coming here to look for nick-knacks, raise your head once in a while to admire the Wind Lion Gods on the roofs of the old buildings or take a look at the Sword Lions on the lintels of doors. There are many small alleyways within the Anping Old Street area, and each alley has its own characteristics and features, such as Jasmine Alley and Rouge Alley. The area retains many of its old-style buildings, and when entering some of the more quiet alleyways it feels as if time is flowing backwards. The maze of alleys is filled with adventurous feel. It is a pity if you don’t explore the alleys when you come to Anping Old Street.

It used to be an important trading port in Taiwan. It has the first commercial street in Taiwan. It is the old street of Anping in Tainan. Anping District of Tainan City is one of the earliest development sites in Taiwan. During the Dutch period, there were big towns and towns, and it is the oldest town in Taiwan. The name Taiwan also originated from big staff and is now called Taiwan. When visiting Anping, visitors must take a walk in Anping Old Street. Anping Old Street starts from the main entrance of Anping Fort and extends along Yanping Street. It is narrow and windy, full of stalls and old buildings. Roads, Rest Stop and Anping Old Street in Tainan, Taiwan
After a weird breakfast of sweet potato, sushi, shrimp buns, green vegetable, yogurt with dried apricots and honey, eggs, coffee and sponge cake (no one will ever say my taste buds aren't adventurous), it was a three-hour ride to Tainan, the first capital city in Taiwan.
Rest stops along Taiwan's excellent highway system are uniformly wonderful; immaculate bathrooms, souvenirs, sometimes food malls and, oh yes, they do sell gas/petrol.
Tainan was the first capital city in Taiwan and once the country's gateway. There are quite a few historic sights to visit and Gordon (guide) was insistent we see them all!

Anping Old Fort in Tainan | 台湾 Taiwan Travel Vlog
If you like history then you will love Anping Old Fort 安平古堡, in Tainan! It was only an hour walk (you can take a bus too) from our hostel in downtown Tainan. On our way we stopped for food at the 7-11.
Fort Zeelandia was a Dutch fortress built in the 1600s. After being rebuilt during Japanese Colonial period it was renamed Anping Old Fort. Part of the original wall still stands! There is a museum, and you can check out the watch tower for a great view of the area.

EP7 Seeing Taiwan: Shangri La Tainan, Anping Tree House/Old St, Fish Noodles, Hop on hop off bus
These are a few of the things we did in Tainan. I'm so gutted because at the end of our stay in Tainan I think I managed to wipe/format my SD card so I lost 2 days worth of clips :(
Of all the towns and cities we visited in Taiwan, Tainan was my favorite. The food, the people, the culture and the hotel were all amazing!
The highlight of our trip was definitely the meal we had at 度小月 Du Hsiao Yueh Restaurant (no.2 below) and the charcoal grilled peanut brittle wrap with coriander (no.7 below).
So whilst they are not all captured on the videos, here is a list of all the places we visited in Tainan:

(only 2 things on the menu, wet or dry stir fried smoked eel noodles)

(frozen fruit smoothie ice blocks served on half a honeydew/cantaloupe melon... bit over hyped)
11. 蜷尾家甘味處散步甜食 Soft serve ice cream

(famous ice cream chain, popular flavours sell out early. I tried the Taiwanese tea soft serve and it had really good flavour)
12. 台南雙層巴士 Tainan Sightseeing Bus

(Tickets can be bought from the first stop outside Tainan main train station. We got promo tickets for TW$300 = £7.50 for the full day which are usually TW$500 = £12.50. They offer 3 routes which go to the main tourist spots but live commentary is only in Chinese and the English is using the pre-recorded audio headphones)
13. 大東夜市 Ta-Tung/Dadong Night Market

(pretty much the same vendors as the Garden Night Market because they operate on alternate days though still worth it to get your night market food fix)
14. 夏家手工魚麵 Fish Noodles

(run by two ladies rushed off their feet; with queues out front. Super cheat eats, really good food. Noodles have a unique chew to them because of the fish meat)
