Anping Treehouse in Tainan | 台湾 Taiwan Travel Vlog
One of the things I had to see in Taiwan was the Anping Treehouse! An old Merchant warehouse that became overgrown with Banyan trees. This places is so unbelievably beautiful! I love abandoned places and nature so this his really combined two things I love. It is a short bus ride from downtown Tainan, in Anping district. It costs $50 NT or you can buy a $150 NT pass (that covers all the attractions and works as your bus pass!).
Tainan is an amazing city with a lot of history! Definitely worth visiting if you are in Taiwan.
What I've spent in Taiwan so far (in CAD):
Previously spent: $1051.00
Treehouse Ticket: $2.20
Bus fare: $0.78
Total so far: $1053.98
The quotes I read are from the book The World Without Us by Alan Weisman. A beautifully written book about the impact and impermanence of humanity. Imagine if humans suddenly ceased to exist, how long would our footprints remain? (Not an affiliate link, just a great book!)

EP7 Seeing Taiwan: Shangri La Tainan, Anping Tree House/Old St, Fish Noodles, Hop on hop off bus
These are a few of the things we did in Tainan. I'm so gutted because at the end of our stay in Tainan I think I managed to wipe/format my SD card so I lost 2 days worth of clips :(
Of all the towns and cities we visited in Taiwan, Tainan was my favorite. The food, the people, the culture and the hotel were all amazing!
The highlight of our trip was definitely the meal we had at 度小月 Du Hsiao Yueh Restaurant (no.2 below) and the charcoal grilled peanut brittle wrap with coriander (no.7 below).
So whilst they are not all captured on the videos, here is a list of all the places we visited in Tainan:
Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan
701, Taiwan, Tainan City, East District,
(a beautiful 5* hotel I booked for Chris's birthday)
Du Hsiao Yueh Restaurant
No. 101號, Zhongzheng Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(check out the eating Taiwan video)
Garden Night Market
No. 533號, Section 3, Hai'an Road, North District, Tainan City, Taiwan 704
(check out the eating Taiwan video)
Anping Tree House
708, Taiwan, Tainan City, Anping District
(a warehouse which has been reclaimed by nature)
Anping Old Street
Yanping Street, Anping District, Tainan City, Taiwan 708
(an old shopping street selling traditional foods and bits)
Chihkan Tower
No. 212, Section 2, Minzu Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(an old tower build by the Japanese)
Charcoal Grilled Peanut Brittle Roll
No. 200號, Section 2, Yongfu Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(delicious old school Taiwanese snack where the peanut brittle is heated on a charcoal fire then passed through rollers to be flattened then wrapped around fresh coriander; so good eaten warm)
A Jiang Stir-Fried Eel Yi Noodles
No. 89, Section 3, Minzu Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(only 2 things on the menu, wet or dry stir fried smoked eel noodles)
Shennong Street
Shennong Street, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(really pretty old street with a Japanese vibe; aka Osaka of Taiwan)
Fruit Ice Shop
No. 80號, Zhengxing Street, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(frozen fruit smoothie ice blocks served on half a honeydew/cantaloupe melon... bit over hyped)
Soft serve ice cream
No. 92號, Zhengxing Street, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(famous ice cream chain, popular flavours sell out early. I tried the Taiwanese tea soft serve and it had really good flavour)
Tainan Sightseeing Bus
701, Taiwan, Tainan City, East District
(Tickets can be bought from the first stop outside Tainan main train station. We got promo tickets for TW$300 = £7.50 for the full day which are usually TW$500 = £12.50. They offer 3 routes which go to the main tourist spots but live commentary is only in Chinese and the English is using the pre-recorded audio headphones)
Ta-Tung/Dadong Night Market
No. 276號, Section 1, Linsen Road, East District, Tainan City, Taiwan 701
(pretty much the same vendors as the Garden Night Market because they operate on alternate days though still worth it to get your night market food fix)
Fish Noodles
No. 353號, Section 1, Fuqian Road, West Central District, Tainan City, Taiwan 700
(run by two ladies rushed off their feet; with queues out front. Super cheat eats, really good food. Noodles have a unique chew to them because of the fish meat)

Anping Treehouse Photowalk Tainan Taiwan
Urban Exploring for tourists. It's easy to find great photo opportunities going for a walk through the old Tate & Co warehouses in Tainan, Taiwan. Also known as the Anping Treehouse, it's a mashup of warehouses that are basically around 140 years old, a modern, catwalk super-structure holding everything together (and offering great views to tourists), and invasive banyan trees, which have been eating through the oyster-shell mortar, thriving in the humid Tainan weather. Filmed on a head-mounted GoPro Hero 4 session.
Anping Tree House (安平樹屋), Tainan, Taiwan - 1/29/2014
A house was occupied by a giant banyan tree which formed a unique fairy tale look and also mysterious scenery in the north side of Anping, Tainan. It's hard to describe how it looks unless you go to see it for yourself. However, it can be described as-There are walls in the trees, and there are trees in the walls
Located next to the British Tait & Co. Merchant House (英商德記洋行), the Anping Tree House (安平樹屋) used to be a warehouse of Tait's. Tait & Co. was one of the British Trading Company branches established in Taiwan in 1867. This beautiful western Colonial style architecture has a totally distinct look from the traditional Anping houses. Now, it is a wax museum showing the immigrants' life in Taiwan's history.
Because the warehouse was abandoned for many years, a giant banyan tree has occupied the warehouse. The banyan aerial roots and trunks became part of the house. For over 200 years, the brick walls in the house were faded and collapsed. The growing roots and trunks took over the walls, windows, doors and ground. I really could not tell which parts are the house', and which parts are the trees'.

TAIWAN V.3: December 25, 2016
Day 3 was CHRISTMAS DAY! We spend the morning taking a bike ride to the Cijin Island ferry, and then walk to the Cihou Fort & Lighthouse where we meet a group of men who buy us drinks from the vending machine.
We walk along the beach, and then take the ferry back to our Airbnb where we check out and travel to Tainan by High Speed Rail.
Once in Tainan, we walk to our hotel, stopping at a restaurant along the way for lunch; we have no idea what we order, but are pleasantly surprised by the delicious noodles that the chef brings to our table.
Kelly watches Taiwanese television, and then we watch a parade go by as we wait for the bus to take us to the Anping Treehouse. We explore and then stop by Chihkan Tower. On our way to our third night market (Flower Night Market) we meet an amazing dog, and then make it to the market for Crispy Green Onion Pancakes, Fried Chicken, and Puffed Sweet Potato Balls.
Kelly is disappointed that she doesn't find Bubble Tea, but we end the night trying two new milk teas from the nearest Family Mart. We forget to end the vlog, but it's still worth the watch. :)
Thanks for sticking around!

Anping Tree House/Former Tait & Co. Merchant House,Tainan,Taiwan
