Exploring the Beaches of Barth's
It turns out you don't need a lot of money to be able to enjoy St. Barth's. You just need a scooter to take full advantage of all its beaches.
While on a scooter tour of the island, we hit 5 absolutely amazing beaches. From the anchorage we WISH we were at in Anse de Colombier to the laid back Anse de Lorient; the kiteboarder's paradise of Anse Marechal, and the ritzy tour to Anse de Gouverneur. The spot we spent most time at was Anse de Grande Saline...also known as the nude beach.
Add in a lunch to JoJo's Burger Shack and a trip to the airport where the planes almost skim the roofs of vans as they come in for their landing...we had an incredibly day. Saint Barthelemy.you have really stolen our hearts.
Anse De Colombier ~ St Barths ~ Best UAV Drone Caribbean ~ WeBeYachting.com
Anse de Colombier is considered to be one of the finest anchorages in the Caribbean. Once owned by the Rockefeller family, who built a mansion on the southern side of the bay, Anse de Colombier now forms part of the St. Barths Marine Reserve. There is no road access to the bay although a trail through patches of fragrant lilies and cacti stretches from the beach up to the village of Anse de Flamandes,

Discover St. Barths Island in video with St. Barths Online !
This arid, volcanic rock of just eight square miles is home to an eclectic mix of iguanas, night-blooming cactus, and fabulous beaches as well as luxury yachts, designer boutiques, and VIPs... Peopled primarily by descendents of the original French settlers and transplanted Europeans, this is an island with a strong, independent personality. Through the vagaries of its history it became a duty-free port and more recently liberated itself from the administrative yoke of Guadeloupe. It is certainly the most unusual of the French West Indies islands.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. Saint Barthélemy is an overseas collectivity of France in the West Indies. Often abbreviated to St-Barth in French, and St. Barths or St. Barts in English, the island lies about 35 kilometres southeast of St. Martin and north of St. Kitts. The collectivity is one of 4 territories among the Leeward Islands in the northeastern Caribbean that comprise the French West Indies, along with Saint Martin, Guadeloupe and Martinique. The island was formed by a volcano and is only 8 square miles.
2. Although St. Barths was discovered and named by Christopher Columbus in 1493, it wasn’t until 1651 that the first colony was formed by the French. Unfortunately, the settlers did not last, and a new colony wasn’t founded again until 1763, again by the French. But the French lost the island again in 1784, this time to Sweden, and didn’t regain control until 1878. This time, they held on to their tropical paradise. These days, St. Barths is like an extension of France, but with a laid-back island atmosphere.
3. Gustavia is the main town and capital of the island of Saint Barthélemy. Originally called Le Carénage, it was renamed in honor of King Gustav III of Sweden. Saint Barthélemy was first claimed by France, in 1648. The island was given to Sweden in exchange for trade rights in Gothenburg in 1784 and Sweden founded the Swedish West India Company. Prospering during the Napoleonic Wars, assets were low thereafter, and the island was sold back to France in 1878.
4. The glamorous island of St Barts is one of the Caribbean's top beach destinations. Ringing the island are immaculate strips of sand and ethereal turquoise waters. The shallow reefs that encircle the island help to protect these renowned beaches, and they also provide excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities.
5. This volcanic island without any rivers forced the population to adapt to its rigors in order to here live comfortably. Fresh water in St Barts comes from a desalination plant or large cisterns built into villas and hotels to collect rainwater. Thus water is a valuable resource to be used carefully.
6. Have you ever watched those YouTube videos of crazy plane landings? It’s very likely you’ve seen the runway on St. Barths, one of the shortest in the world. The runway ends at the beach, meaning many a sunbather has an opportunity to watch newcomers land on the island. Because of its small size, only small planes can land in St. Barths. There are no direct flights from any mainlands to the island. But it’s easy enough to catch a charter flight from nearby St. Maarten, Antigua or San Juan.
7. French buccaneers found the place hospitable, and brightened the economy with vast quantities of plunder taken from Spanish galleons. Montbars the Exterminator, a famous buccaneer of noble French descent, reputedly maintained his headquarters in St. Barths. His treasure is believed to be still hidden among the coves of Anse du Gouverneur, or buried in the sands of Saline.

** The busiest airport in the French Antilles
** Northern most island of the Lesser Antilles
** History of the island
** Tourism sector in St Barts
** Agreeable weather throughout the year
With the fast approaching holiday season, the small island of St-Bart’s is long familiar with the private planes of the Jet Set. As you will discover, landing on this northern most island of the Lesser Antilles is very spectacular. Facing the wind, the pilot has to fly low, at an altitude of 30 metres, the descent coming from the mountain before turning to touch down on the tarmac that is only 650 metres long. The consequence of this is that only pilots with special training can land at St-Bart’s. Taking off facing the mountain is just as spectacular. Only small planes with a maximum space for 20 passengers can land at the airport. Entry for large carriers is at the international airport of St Maarten located 25 kms away.
In spite of the difficult take off and landing, the Gustave III airport is the busiest airport in the French Antilles with 35,000 flights per year, 6,000 being private charters.
St. Barts, it’s full name being Saint Barthelemy, was discovered by Christopher Colombus at the end of the 15th century. He named the island after his brother Barthomley. This small island only 24 square km’s belonged in turn to the Spanish, the French, the Swedes and then the French again in 1878. Christopher Colombus didn’t stay on St. Barts; the volcanic island didn’t have any precious metals and notably no gold. But 60 years ago, that all changed.
St. Barts became a sought after luxurious holiday destination thanks to American millionaire David Rockefeller who bought a property there in 1957. Today the island is inhabited in large part by colony descendants from France. The island counts a little more than 9,000 residents. The tourism sector employs about 37% of the workforce. Priority is given to premium tourism; it’s receives about 300,000 visitors per year.
St. Barts is unique because it only has two seasons. First, is the period locals call Lent where the temperature is an average of 27 degrees from December 1st to May 30th. It’s High season and is more favourable for discovering turtles and 183 different species of fish in the volcanic craters. The second season is called winter and is on the contrary to it’s name, the hottest season, with an average temperature of 30 degrees Celsius from June 1st to November 30th. It should be noted that St Barts, which is presented as “the art of being an island” offers lighting that perfectly blends with the new TV picture broadcast technology of Ultra High Definition 4k. And to finish this Jet Set escapade to St. Barts, we offer you a spectacular take off from the little airport of Gustave III. Paris is 8,500 km away, and New York, 2,500.

St. Jean Beach (pronounced St. John) on St. Barts is a long stretch of sand that sits at the end of the famous St. Barts airport and borders the exclusive Eden Rock Resort. This video will take you to St. Jean Beach and show you what it's like to stand on its sandy shore. No music, no voice-over, just you and the sound of the waves. Welcome to St. Jean beach on St. Barts in the Caribbean.
We arrived on Anguilla via the Sagitta, a tall ship operated by Island Windjammers. The Sagitta is an experience I highly recommend.
