Chuida music 吹打乐 from Anshan, Liaoning, northeast China
A performance of a qupai (曲牌, named tune) from the tradition of Liaoning guchuiyue (辽宁鼓吹乐, wind and percussion music from Liaoning province), entitled Ku Huangtian (《哭皇天》, Crying Out to the Heavens). This qupai is in the xiao paizi qu (小牌子曲) category.
Performed by a 5-member chuida (吹打, wind and percussion) music ensemble from Anshan (鞍山市), central Liaoning province, northeast China. The ensemble, which consists of two large suonas (da suona, 大唢呐), tanggu (堂鼓, small barrel drum), xiaobo (小钹, small cymbals), and daluo (大锣, large gong), is led by suona player Huang Baoxin (黄宝新).

More commonly known as guyue (鼓乐, literally drum[ming] music) Liaoning guchuiyue is divided into two main categories: suona music (suona yue, 唢呐乐)and sheng-guan music (shengguan yue, 笙管乐), and there are six distinctive regional styles within Liaoning province. Commonly performed for life cycle events such as weddings and funerals, Liaoning guchuiyue is an important part of Liaoning's folk ceremonial activity.
In 2006 the tradition of Liaoning guyue (辽宁鼓乐), centering on Liaoning province and Liaoyang City (辽阳市), was included in the first batch of 518 traditions inscribed in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China (第一批国家级非物质文化遗产名录) by China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH, 国家文物局), an agency under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture (中华人民共和国文化部) that was formerly known as the State Cultural Relics Bureau (国家文物局文化部).
Also in 2006, the tradition of Liaoning guyue (辽宁鼓乐) was included in the first batch of traditions inscribed in Liaoning's Provincial List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (第一批辽宁省省级非物质文化遗产名录).

Misimpressions about both of these phenomena abound, and we are naturally inclined to regard the second as having just as recently arisen as the first. Yet, the lens of history reveals the ongoing African experience in China to be not only vibrant and colorful but of surprisingly long duration.
Don J. Wyatt, the John M. McCardell, Jr. Distinguished Professor at Middlebury College, holds his disciplinary and teaching specialization in the intellectual history of China. He has authored, coauthored, edited, or coedited several books, with the most recent among them being his own The Blacks of Premodern China (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2010). His talk is fascinating and informative.

Buying anything at the farmers market in China is an experience of its own. A popular breakfast food for sale in the north ... Chinese Youtiao!! 油条 (you Tiao) are fried dough AKA the doughnut ! Hopefully on my next trip it will be warmer so I can show you the best way to eat them.
The hot soy milk is a popular combination, and many people love dipping their you tiao straight in the milk. (Me too!!)
Not the healthiest of breakfast choices, but definitely a treat and so so fresh !
This video was in Anshan China, at the farmers market near my home. Many of the farmers markets open quite early, and in the summer as early as the sun comes up ! But for certain items like doughnuts or tofu pudding around 6-7:00 is a good time to come out and enjoy breakfast .

We are somewhere in the Qianshan National Park!
In the last episode we climbed up the side of a mountain and we start this vlog where 'that one' left off..
The views on top of the thousand mountains (China) is absolutely incredible!
You can see why they are called 1000 mountains (Qianshan)..
There is quite literally thousands of mountains.. they keep going! Wherever you look.. the mountain range goes on forever!

The Qianshan National Park is a mountainous national park in Liaoning Province, China, 17 km by road, south east of Anshan.(Where we were staying)
The park is in the Qianshan Mountains (Chinese: 千山山脉), named after itself, that extends from the Changbai Mountains in the China-North Korea border, westward to Liaoyang, then southward to Dalian in the southern corner of Liaoning Province.
