Along with neighboring Anshi National Park (339.87 square kilometres (83,980 acres)), the sanctuary was declared part of the Anshi Dandeli Tiger Reserve in 2006. Karnataka state government has officially notified the Dandeli Elephant Reserve under Project Elephant on 4 June 2015. The elephant reserve is spread over 2,321 km2, including 475 km2 as core and the remaining as buffer areas. This is the second elephant reserve in Karnataka after Mysuru Elephant Reserve, which was declared in 2002.[2]
Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is a birdwatchers paradise, housing nearly 200 species of birds,[3] most famous for the great hornbill (great Indian hornbill or great pied hornbill) and the Malabar pied hornbill. It is also the only known tiger reserve in India to report frequent sightings of the elusive black panther. It is also known to house the Indian sloth bear, the Indian pangolin, the giant Malabar squirrel, dhole, the Indian jackal and the muntjac (barking deer). Sightings of the Indian elephant and the Indian peafowl are pretty common. The king cobra and the mugger crocodile (Indian crocodile) are the prime reptilians in Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary.
The forests in Dandeli are a mixture of dense deciduous trees interspersed with bamboo and teak plantations.

Name
A local legend states that the city is named after Dandelappa, a local deity, a servant of the Mirashi landlords, who lost his life because of his loyalty. An alternative legend states that a king named Dandakanayaka passed through the forests and named them after himself, and the city is believed to stand on the place where Dandakaranya stood when he named the area.
Dandeli is a natural habitat for wildlife, including tigers, leopards, black panthers, elephants, gaur, deer, antelopes, and bears. It is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka and was designated as a tiger reserve in 2007. The jungle is also home to several varieties of reptiles and almost 300 varieties of birds.
The sanctuary provides rafting opportunities at the Virnoli Rapids connected to the Kali River. Other tourist activities include nature walks, boating, bird watching , crocodile spotting and angling. Nearby tourist spots include Ulavi, Syntheri Rocks, Anashi National Park, and Moulangi.

Anshi National Park : Forest Trails : Ktm Duke 200
Anshi National Park, Ride was just about the road and not any particular destination. So i planned for a round trip starting from Goa riding south towards karwar and returning back from anmod ghat through anshi national park.
The road was smooth and with no traffic. This was one of the most dense forest that i had ever seen. And so even the temperature was pleasant even at 1pm. I was expecting to see some wildlife but only came across some peacocks.
I was planning for kayaking in kali river but had to drop the plan because of time contraint. They had quoted 300rs for half hour and that was double cost and half time for what we get in goa.

Details of places to visit in Dandeli are as follows:
1. Kali Tiger Reserve: Dandeli Anshi tiger reserve situated in Kulgi which is around 13 kms from main town. This place can be searched as “Kulgi Nature Camp” in Google map for direction. Jeep safari is available with an entrance fees of INR 450/person. The timings of jungle safari are morning 6 to 8 am and evening 4 to 6 pm. The most common wildlife likely to be spotted are Tiger, Jaguar, Wild Dog, Deer, Leopard, Hornbill etc. There is an elephant camp near the safari ticket counter where good healthy tuskers can be seen.
