Wenmiao Temple & Dayun Si - Wuwei
During my journey across the Silk route into China, we travelled to the ancient city of Wuwei, here we visited the Wenmaio Temple . Beautifully ornate and spread over a large area.
The ancient Bell tower Dayun Si built during the Ming dynasty, also in the city of Wuwei . Houses a Tang dynasty bronze bell, which I had the pleasure of striking!
The pictures speak better for themselves.

The Confucius Temple is known also as the Wenmiao Temple in Chinese, and is situated in the southeast of Wuwei City. This ancient complex dates from the Ming Dynasty having been established in 1439 on instructions from the reigning emperor and with the strong backing of public subscription. The construction of the original temple took just two years but various extensions have been added over succeeding centuries.
The complex covers an area of a little over 1,500 square meters and is the largest and best-preserved temple dedicated to Confucius in Gansu Province.

Jiaxiu Tower Guiyang Guizhou Province China
Situated on Fuyu Bridge over the Nanming River, the Jiaxiu Tower is one of the symbols of Guiyang. It's also called the First Scholar's Tower.
In 1597, Ming Dynasty, the officer of Guizhou Jiang Dongzhi built a bridge to connect the two banks of Nanming River. Then Jiaxiu Tower was built on the bridge to encourage young scholars to meet together each year at the provincial Confucian examinations. However it was nearly burned to the ground in 1621. After many times of reconstruction, replenishment, alteration, Jiaxiu Tower was finally recovered its original appearance. Jiaxiu Tower stands in the middle of the river with the beautiful Guanyin (a Bodhisattva) temple and Cuiwei Cabinet on its right while pretty Fuyu Bridge is below it. Besides, there is a small pavilion built on the bridge which is called Hanbi Pavilion.
There are several craved stones, poems and couplets in the Jiaxiu Tower. Among them, a long antithetical couplet written by Liu Yushan---a scholar of Qing Dynasty is most famous. It has generalized the landscape and history of Guizhou.

Matang Village in Leishan County
Matang Village, located roughly 18 kilometers north of the city of Kaili, is a Gejia ethnic minority village. The Gejia specialize in batik, and are fond of colorful clothing, which includes everyday attire as well as festival costumes. They also are skilled embroidery and the petit point stitch on which it is based.
Matang Village's Gejia girls begin to learn the art of batik (the art of dyeing multi-colored patterns in stages by applying melted wax to the areas where one does not wish the given color to appear, as the wax prevents the dye from penetrating) at a very tender age -- as young as 7--8 years old -- and become adept at it by the time they reach adulthood.
Gejia Batik is purchased the world over -- as well as by tourists to the region, who can often score a bargain on the spot -- by those who appreciate the uniqueness of the Gejia batik patterns as well as the excellent craftsmanship that goes into their production and which rests on lifelong training in the art and technique of batik. Some of the more common items of Gejia batik include women's jackets, coats, dresses and a corset-like vest to be worn over a blouse, while batik suspenders are a typical men's item. Other everyday applications of Gejia batik include curtains, quilt covers, tablecloths and place mats.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
