Important People in Iowa History
Heading East to the Midwest (Pt. 5) - Le Claire, Iowa
July 1, 2015 - My short, hour-long stop in the state of Iowa brought me to Le Claire, 497 miles upstream on the Mississippi River. It's a quaint little town, known for being the birthplace of Buffalo Bill and the home office of Antique Archeology, aka, home base for American Pickers - a show I don't watch, but plenty do.
Before I leave the state, I take a little drive along the banks of the Mississippi, while listening to Illinois sports radio go crazy over the Chicago Blackhawks on the first day of NHL free agency. Man, they seem impassioned - it's like they won the Stanley Cup recently or something.

Mike Wolfe Net Worth & Biography 2018 | American Pickers Salary!
Mike Wolfe was born in Joliet, Illinois on June 11, 1964, and was married to the former Jodi Faeth on September 8, 2012 after a 17-year relationship. Their daughter Charlie was born on Jauary 30, 2012. Wolfe also has a younger brother Robbie and younger sister Beth.
Wolfe is the current co-host of the History Channel reality show, American Pickers, which goes across the United States looking for material that others consider junk, but can be resold. Wolfe's passion began as a child collecting material from waste sites due to his family's precarious financial situation. He once found a bike that he rode until someone offered him $5 for it, which he accepted. He ended up running a bicycle store from 1989-2000, at which point he then opened up his Antique Archeology store in LeClaire, Iowa. By 2010, his reality show went on the air and continues after more than 100 episodes. That recognition has allowed his to begin another company named Rustorations, which restores and then resells old light fixtures.
Wolfe's estimated net worth is between $4-$7 million, a figure that's risen since his show went on the air. That's due not only to the $500,000 salary he earns for doing the show each year, but the increase in foot traffic at his store. In addition, he's written two books as part of a $2 million contract, one an instructional volume for children on assessing junk, and another a guide related to his television show.

20 Years After A Doctor Mysteriously Vanished, Mushroom Pickers In Italy Made A Strange Discovery
20 Years After A Doctor Mysteriously Vanished, Mushroom Pickers In Italy Made A Strange Discovery
A doctor who disappeared from home 20 years ago has been discovered living as a hermit in the forests of Tuscany.
Carlos Sanchez Ortiz de Salazar, 45, a Spaniard, was found by chance by mushroom pickers in the woods a few days ago.
He recounted his story and even let them photograph a few tattered documents, including a university library card.
He told them that he had been living in the woods for most of the last two decades, after disappearing from his home in Seville in 1996.
But apparently unsettled by being discovered, he then vanished into the forest again and has not been seen since.
The mushroom pickers passed on the photographs they had taken to an Italian organisation called Penelope, which helps locate missing persons.
With the help of a similar Spanish organisation called Sos Desaparecidos, Mr Sanchez’s family were tracked down.
A graduate in medicine who was born in Bilbao, Mr Sanchez is believed to have been suffering from severe depression when he fled Spain at the age of 26.
