George H.W. Bush, former first lady rededicate Kennebunk bridge
On May 19, 2017, former President George H. W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush helped rededicate the Mathew J. Lanigan Bridge Friday afternoon, officially cutting the ribbon in a ceremony modeled after one that took place 84 years ago when the structure first opened.
Hundreds gathered Friday afternoon on the bridge that connects Kennebunkport’s Dock Square and Kennebunk’s Lower Village to celebrate the reconstruction of the span. The 92-year-old Bush and his wife were the guests of honor, having arrived this week at their summer home at Walker’s Point in Kennebunkport. Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel Girl Scouts presented daisies to the former president and first lady and antique cars from 1933 were the first to drive over the completed bridge.
The bridge ceremony marked “41′s” first public appearance since being released from the hospital in Houston, Texas late last month. The Bushes arrived in Dock Square to cheers from the local crowd in attendance welcoming them home for the summer.
“We love you,” members of the crowd shouted out.

How zip codes helped organize America
Zip codes, explained.

Zip codes were invented in 1963 to help the United States Postal Service deal with huge increases in mail volume. The Zone Improvement Plan, or “ZIP” code system of addressing, organized mail delivery by dividing the country into 10 regions and assigning five digits increasing in specificity: from region to large sorting centers to smaller post offices. To promote the new system, the USPS released publicity materials featuring Mr. Zip, a cartoon character, and a song about zip codes from a band called The Swingin’ Six.
As the nation grew, the USPS updated zip codes by adding a four-digit suffix in 1983. The new suffix corresponds to specific destinations, such as one side of a street or a certain floor of an office building. Now, geocoding technology has created the possibility of even more specific addressing.

Step # 2 -- Filling in the Form
In order to figure out the zip code you will need to fill out this short form. You will need to know the rest of the address in order for the website to tell you the correct zip code. Fill in Street Address, City and State to continue.
Step # 3 -- Finding out the ZIP Code
Now all you need to do is click the blue Find button and the website will pull up the complete address. The next page will say You entered: and then list the incomplete address that you filled in. Directly below, you will see either one, or a list of addresses. Most likely, you just see one and you can then determine the zip code by address.
