Chinese soprano Xing Xing live in the Czech Republic
The acclaimed Chinese soprano Xing Xing, who had already graced stages as far as in the New Zealand is currently residing in Germany. Following her success at the International Vocal Competition in Zdar nad Sazavou (Czech Republic) in 2014, where she was awarded the third prize in the top-class final round, she was invited as a guest star in many concert events in this country. Here she is performing along with the well-known pianist Richard Pohl, a great Italian tenor David Righeschi and The Orchestra of the Antonín Dvořák Theatre in Ostrava, conducted by Adam Sedlický. Recorded live at the Nova Bela Open Air 2014 in Ostrava - Nová Bělá, 30. 8. 2014.
Patricia Janečková - C'era Una Volta Il West
Born in Germany to Slovak parents, 13-year old Patricia Janečková performs Ennio Morricone's heavenly melody Once Upon A Time In The West during the Miss Reneta student beauty pageant in Havirov, Czech Republic on March 30, 2012.
Take a look at the contestants in the background who are perhaps not only mesmerized by the amazing performance of the beautiful young singer but some of them appear to be envious in the face of such talent and beauty combined. They have a flower in their hands while Patricia is the blossom that will become a non-withering flower for many decades to come.
- This is a re-upload of youtube.com/watch?v=kOy6M_X2MO8
- I have enhanced the loudness (normalization), removed some crackling noise in the right channel of the original audio and added more of the highly merited applause from another source because of the drowsy Czech audience.
At the time of writing (2016), Patricia is still only 17/18 and has become a singing sensation and a Slovak national icon. Born in Germany in 1998 she successfully made the difficult step from a Czecho-Slovak TV talent show (Talentmania) in 2010 to a promising international career. As opposed to other vocal phenomena like wunderkind Jackie Evancho from Pennsylvania, she has considerably developed her voice and vocal technique and is now an accomplished, acclaimed and much sought-after operatic soprano enchanting audiences worldwide and flabbergasting critics and peers likewise.
The following text is outdated but taken from her own website: patricia-janeckova.com/en
In December 2010, thanks to a record-breaking number of votes, she became an absolute Winner of a Czecho-Slovakian talent show Talentmania, in which she gained favor and appreciation in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic. An exceptionally gifted 13-year-old opera singer PATRICIA JANEČKOVÁ (1998) has been singing since the age of four and she is an exceptional appearance on the current musical scene. The professional public exalts her enormous musical maturity, pure intonation and cultivated voice above all.
Of all the musical genres she was particularly fascinated by opera since her early childhood. She experienced her first contacts with the opera stage as a member of Antonín Dvořák Theatre’s Opera Studio in Ostrava. At the age of 10 she won a casting of Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava and she got her first chance to sing with a symphonic orchestra.
In December 2010, she became an absolute winner of Talentmania. During the following year the debut CD album recording in cooperation with a musical composer, conductor and producer Oskar Rózsa and also her first all-evening recital with a big orchestra within the Viva Musica! festival took place. At present she is attending private singing lessons with popular Czech opera singer and pedagogue Eva Dřízgová-Jirušová. She is going to study opera singing abroad after she finishes elementary school.

2018 - Patricia Janečková - V Národním Tónu (A. Dvořák)
On Thursday 16 August 2018 Patricia Janečková performed in the Monastery Zlatá Koruna in the Czech Republic. She was skilfully accompanied by Michal Bárta, pianist. The concert was streamed live on Instagram. Although the quality of the recorded livestream could be a lot better, I hope you'll still enjoy their performance.

(c) Authors’ Reading Month, 2014
Měsíc autorského čtení je největší středoevropský literární festival, který probíhá v Brně, Košicích, Ostravě a Wroclawi (autorskecteni.cz)
Tomáš Zmeškal:
Narozen 1966 v Praze. Vystudoval anglický jazyk a literaturu na King’s College University of London. A zoufale neznámá. […] Sokrates na rovníku otevírá oči. Doufejme, že nadlouho, či ještě lépe natrvalo.“
Tomáš Zmeškal:
Born 1966 in Prague, Tomáš Zmeškal studied English language and literature at King’s College in London. He has worked as a lecturer, a translator, an interpreter and a high school teacher, later becoming a senior lecturer at Charles University in Prague. He is the author of three novels – Love Letter in Cuneiform (2008), Životopis černobílého jehněte [The Biography of a Black-and-White Lamb] (2009) and Sokrates na rovníku [Sokrates on the Equator] (2013).
“There is the history of a family; however, much more important than that is the history of the relationship between Africa and Europe,” says Klára Kubíčková, referring to the author’s latest novel. “Unfair and cruel. And very little known, so little it is unbelievable. […] Sokrates na rovníku is an eye-opener. Let’s hope that people’s eyes remain open for a long time; better yet, indefinitely.”
Hudba je celý můj život / Music is my whole life | Anna Audenis | TEDxOstrava
Anna is a 9-year-old child playing piano since her 5. She also loves drawing and both interconnect when she performs. But better than to write anything about it is to listen. You will also lose your words…
Ne vždy najde talent pochopení u píle a entusiasmu.

The Cherry Orchard
The Cherry Orchard is the last play by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. It opened at the Moscow Art Theatre on 17 January 1904 in a production directed by Constantin Stanislavski. Although Chekhov intended it as a comedy, and it does contain some elements of farce, Stanislavski insisted on directing the play as a tragedy. Since this initial production, directors have had to contend with the dual nature of the play. The play is often identified on the short list of the three or four outstanding plays written by Chekhov along with The Seagull, Three Sisters, and Uncle Vanya.
The play concerns an aristocratic Russian woman and her family as they return to their family estate just before it is auctioned to pay the mortgage. While presented with options to save the estate, the family essentially does nothing and the play ends with the sale of the estate to the son of a former serf; the family leaves to the sound of the cherry orchard being cut down. The story presents themes of cultural futility – both the futile attempts of the aristocracy to maintain its status and of the bourgeoisie to find meaning in its newfound materialism. In reflecting the socio-economic forces at work in Russia at the turn of the 20th century, including the rise of the middle class after the abolition of serfdom in the mid-19th century and the sinking of the aristocracy, the play reflects forces at work around the globe in that period.

SUMMARY

The Czech Republic ( ( listen); Czech: Česká republika [ˈtʃɛskaː ˈrɛpublɪka] ( listen)), also known by its short-form name, Czechia ( ( listen); Czech: Česko [ˈtʃɛsko] ( listen)), is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the east and Poland to the northeast. The Czech Republic covers an area of 78,866 square kilometres (30,450 sq mi) with a mostly temperate continental climate and oceanic climate. It is a unitary parliamentary republic, with 10.6 million inhabitants; its capital and largest city is Prague, with 1.3 million residents. Other major cities are Brno, Ostrava and Pilsen. The Czech Republic is a member of the European Union (EU), NATO, the OECD, the United Nations, the OSCE, and the Council of Europe.
It is a developed country with an advanced, high income export-oriented social market economy based in services, manufacturing and innovation. The UNDP ranks the country 14th in inequality-adjusted human development. The Czech Republic is a welfare state with a continental European social model, a universal health care system, tuition-free university education an is ranked 14th in the Human Capital Index. It ranks as the 6th safest or most peaceful country and is one of the most non-religious countries in the world, while achieving strong performance in democratic governance.
The Czech Republic includes the historical territories of Bohemia, Moravia, and Czech Silesia. The Czech state was formed in the late 9th century as the Duchy of Bohemia under the Great Moravian Empire. After the fall of the Empire in 907, the centre of power transferred from Moravia to Bohemia under the Přemyslid dynasty. In 1002, the duchy was formally recognized as part of the Holy Roman Empire, becoming the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1198 and reaching its greatest territorial extent in the 14th century. Besides Bohemia itself, the king of Bohemia ruled the lands of the Bohemian Crown, he had a vote in the election of the Holy Roman Emperor, and Prague was the imperial seat in periods between the 14th and 17th century. In the Hussite Wars of the 15th century driven by the Protestant Bohemian Reformation, the kingdom faced economic embargoes and defeated five consecutive crusades proclaimed by the leaders of the Catholic Church.
Following the Battle of Mohács in 1526, the whole Crown of Bohemia was gradually integrated into the Habsburg Monarchy alongside the Archduchy of Austria and the Kingdom of Hungary. The Protestant Bohemian Revolt (1618–20) against the Catholic Habsburgs led to the Thirty Years' War. After the Battle of the White Mountain, the Habsburgs consolidated their rule, eradicated Protestantism and reimposed Catholicism, and also adopted a policy of gradual Germanization. This contributed to the anti-Habsburg sentiment. A long history of resentment of the Catholic Church followed and still continues. With the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, the Bohemian Kingdom became part of the Austrian Empire and the Czech language experienced a revival as a consequence of widespread romantic nationalism. In the 19th century, the Czech lands became the industrial powerhouse of the monarchy and were subsequently the core of the Republic of Czechoslovakia, which was formed in 1918 following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire after World War I.
Czechoslovakia remained the only democracy in this part of Europe in the interwar period. However, the Czech part of Czechoslovakia was occupied by Germany in World War II, while the Slovak region became the Slovak Republic; Czechoslovakia was liberated in 1945 by the armies of the Soviet Union and the United States. The Czech country lost the majority of its German-speaking inhabitants after they were expelled following the war. The Communist Party of Czechoslovakia won the 1946 elections and after the 1948 coup d'état, Czechoslovakia became a one-party communist state under Soviet influence. In 19 ...
