Lima - Peru
Before you pack your bags, learn a few fascinating facts about Lima, Peru. The Spanish founded Lima in 1535, and churches in this part of town date back to the 16th century — the Basilica of Lima is Peru’s oldest cathedral. Today, one-third of the country’s population lives in Lima. In Peru, it’s known as the country’s melting pot, with lots of Peruvians of Chinese and Japanese heritage, which you’ll see reflected in the fusion cuisine.
There’s a long list of places to visit on city tour of Lima, Peru. Facts about this history of the city make the city’s prettiest architecture all the more interesting and guided tours highly worthwhile — be sure to make a good-luck wish on the Bridge of Sighs before you travel north to see Plaza de Armas, the city’s historic center. You’ll also want to stop by the museum at Huaca Pucllana, an ancient temple site that pre-dates the Inca. When you’re ready to take break from history, take a fun evening stroll around colorfully lit fountains on a Magic Water Circuit tour.
Lima beaches have something for everyone, from youthful surfers to couples looking for a nice place to stroll at sunset. Peru’s coast offers stunning surf, and the Lima beaches right on the edge of Miraflores are no exception. If you’re not a surfer, you can also appreciate the beaches’ intense surf at a distance, from the cliffs of Love Park in Miraflores. Out of all the beaches in Lima, Peru, Costa Verde offers one of the prettiest places to walk just outside of the city.

Street food in Lima, Peru! #Lima #Peru #PeruvianFood #streetfood
Peruvian food is one of the world’s great cuisines, and I was thrilled to have a chance to visit Peru to learn about and taste the food. In this video, get ready for an ultimate 14-hour straight Peruvian street food tour of Lima!
Here’s everything included in this food tour:
La Parada Market - If you love vegetable markets, I don’t think anywhere else in Lima is as colorful, energetic, and vibrant. This is the beating heart of Lima’s food supply, and I fully enjoyed walking around and seeing the diversity of ingredients from around Peru all in one busy wholesale Market.
Caldo Cesar - Elias navigated us to Caldo Cesar, a restaurant that was incredibly packed and specializes in some of Lima’s best caldo de gallina - chicken hen soup. It was one of the best chicken soups I’ve ever had in my life. Total Price - 52 PEN ($15.71) for 4
Ceviche Cart - One of the national dishes and most beloved dishes of Peru is ceviche (raw fish in lime juice), and we walked over to the section of the market where they sell fish and seasonings for ceviche and had a plate of fresh Peruvian ceviche. It was delicious. Price - 8 PEN ($2.42)
Fruit Tasting - This was pretty unplanned, we just walked around the fruit market and tasted about a dozen types of fruit. My favorite fruits were the Sanky - Fruit produced by a cactus, Camu camu - Native to the Amazon rainforest, and Lucuma - Gold of the Incas.
Papa rellena - This is one of the most common of all Peru street foods, a papa rellena, or a Peruvian stuffed potato. I was impressed - one of the best fried potatoes maybe I’ve ever had in my life.
Tocosh - This fermented potato pulp, was invented by the Incas, and it’s not for the faint of heart. I thought it was unique and pretty delicious, and fun to eat, and it contains natural penicillin.
Papa con huevo - This was ok, but just basic, a potato with egg on top and doused in sauces. This is again, a classic part of Peruvian street food, especially enjoyed by children.
Sanguchería El Chinito - “I practically moved to Peru just for this sandwich.” - Timour Ghoneim. That says it all about this legendary chicharrón Peruvian sandwich located at Plaza de Armas. And he was right, you would move to Lima for this sandwich.
Don Tito Pollos a la Brasa - If you ask Peruvians what is one of their comfort foods, I’m guessing pollo a la brasa would be a common answer. Pollo a la brasa is Pervuian rotisserie chicken, but somehow they just do it better in Peru. Total Price - 84 PEN ($25.39)
Anticuchos Manuela - Without a doubt, this was one of my favorite parts of this entire Peru street food tour of Lima, anticuchos, or grilled cow hearts. They are truly majestic, so juicy and flavorful, you won’t believe it. Price - 10 PEN ($3.02)
Picarones - Finally to end this ultimate street food in Peru tour of Lima, we ordered some picarones, donuts made from sweet potato and pumpkin. They are addictively delicious and should be eaten when you’re in Lima. Price - 6 PEN ($1.81) per box

Alex Morton heads back to Lima Peru!
We live today in a Golden Age, a time where anyone, from anywhere, can start and grow a business from their phone and laptop, anywhere in the world connected to WiFi. Opportunity is everywhere. There is abundance everyone, just open your eyes and ears and become aware of this.
Knowing that 3% of the population owns 97% of the wealth means the vast majority of everyone in your life have literally no idea on how to create wealth. You make surround yourself with winners, people smarter than you, people who can elevate you and become a blueprint of success for you.
People wait, plan, wait, plan, then wait and plan some more. What people should be doing is firing on all cylinders, sprint, & take all out massive action and figure it out along the way.
Entrepreneurs jump out of the plane and construct the parachute on the way down. Sometimes you need to say, “Screw it just do it.”

Chifa: Eating Peruvian Chinese food in Lima, Peru Travel Video Transcript:
#eatPERU
So for today's lunch in Lima we are going to be having Chifa. And that is basically Chinese food with a Peruvian twist. So you know how we always visit a country maybe even Canada or the US and you go to a Chinese buffet and you're like mmmm this is delicious and then you go to China and you can't find any of the dishes you had at a Chinese buffet. That is because Chinese food really varies from one country to the next because incorporate you know their spices and their cooking styles. So Peruvian Chinese food is quite distinct. We're going to be eating Chifa which literally means to eat rice. So yeah, we've ordered a lot of food that is going to be coming soon and it should be interesting. Peruvian Chinese food.
So our appetizers have arrived. They sure have. And I'm just dividing up the wanton soup. We got chicken wontons. Actually no, we have pieces of chicken here. I'm not sure what is inside the wantans. That is going to be a surprise. So it is chicken plus wontons. Yeah, we're sharing because we ordered a lot of food and I have a feeling I may not be able to finish all of this myself.
Okay, so Sam is going to begin with the wanton soup over there. Yes, and if there is one dish that we always tend to order when we get Chinese food, basically anywhere in the world, if wanton soup is on the menu we're ordering it. So I can't wait to try this. These are huge wantons.
Yeah, that is a good wanton. Yeah, I'm guessing the filling might have some pork and a little bit of vegetables inside of it. Yeah, and the soup has lots of slices of chicken. Yes, want to show us those?
And let's see. What else do we have here. What are these? Because if our wanton soup wasn't enough we also got deep-fried wantons.
So we are now making our way over to the mains. Yes, this is called Chancho Cruyoc or as we call it in English sweet and sour breaded pork.
Okay, next up we've got a breaded chicken dish. What is that one called? So this one is Chi Jau Kay.
Okay. Yeah, so it is like breaded chicken kind of like with a chop suey sauce. It is very light it doesn't have a strong flavor and it is kind of a thicker sauce as well. And I do like it. You can really taste the chicken. The fried breaded chicken.
So next up. And no Chifa meal would be complete without fried rice. So we have something called chaufa de pollo. And here is the pollo. You can see the pieces of chicken.
Alright, so what did you think of Chifa?
Chinese food in Peru. Absolutely loved it. Love Chinese Peruvian food. I think it is some of the best Chinese food I've ever had anywhere. And it just has a very strong influence. There was a lot of Chinese immigrants who came from the province of Guangdong and they brought their cuisine over here. And over time it has become a fusion cuisine with Peruvian influences. So I absolutely love it.
And here is a fun fact. In Lima alone there is over 6000 Chifa restaurants. So anywhere you are in this city you can get Chifa. Obviously, one of the best places to get Chifa is Chinatown but you can be anywhere in the city. We're having our meal here in Miraflores. So you can be anywhere in Lima and you can find yourself some awesome authentic Chinese Peruvian food.
This is part of our Travel in Peru series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Peruvian culture, Peruvian arts, Peruvian foods, Peruvian religion, Peruvian cuisine and Peruvian people.

Exploring Peru | David Whitehill in Lima with Scenic
Travel presenter David Whitehill visits Lima to experience the rich culture and lively atmosphere that the capital city of Peru is famous for.
For more information visit our website:
Read below for full transcript:
Lima is the capital of Peru and sits on the coast of the Pacific Ocean; it’s our first stop on our 14 day Peruvian adventure with Scenic.
As far as cities go, Lima it’s a bit of a mixed bag, you get to see quite a few of those elements of a developing country but its all mixed up in these incredible world heritage buildings and set amongst the ruins of one of the oldest civilizations anywhere on Earth.
One of the best places to see the ancient life of the city are the ruins of Pachacamac, the legendary god of Earthquakes.
What an incredible step back in time, this is the very sacred road that the Pilgrims have used over fifteen hundred years to make their way from fasting outside the city walls all the way down here to the pyramids where they would do their praying.
The only thing is, I just found out is that the gods actually need an offering so hopefully they’re up for technology.
While people have lived in this area since before Christ, it was the Spanish just five hundred years ago who had the biggest impact.
I’m catching up on all the town's history with my Scenic guide Ricardo.
Ricardo: “This is the most important square that we have in the whole country, this is the Plaza de Armas or the main square. It was here that Lima was founded around 500 years ago by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro and he built his house over there that is the house of Pizarro”
The main square is a living museum of it’s colonial times, in the fifteen hundred's nearly all of South America was ruled from this very spot.
David: “Hello my people!”
Ah look at that, this is apparently where Prince Harry buys his suits, From this man, Prince Harry! Your friend?
The city's Larco Museum houses one of the most precious collections of artifacts dating back thousands of years but what this gallery is best known for right around Peru is it’s erotic gallery. See ya
One of the charms of Peru is the food and tonight Scenic have organized a very special dinner just for us at a local hacienda.
I think on a journey like this if you can get the opportunity to taste the local hospitality and food in their own home is pretty amazing and I can't think of a better way to finish our last couple of days here in Lima.
What do you guys think?

Peruvian Drinks: Pisco Sour vs Chilcano in Lima, Peru
Come join us as we sample two of the most famous Peruvian drinks (Pisco Sour and Chilcano) that you can find anywhere in Peru at Haiti restaurant in Miraflores, Lima, Peru.
Pisco Sour, considered the National drink of Peru, is cocktail which is prepared with Pisco grape brandy, sour citrus juice (lemon or lime), syrup sweetener, ice, egg white and bitter.
Chilcano, also a drink using Pisco as its base alcohol, is a cocktail mixed with ginger ale, sliced limes and bitter.
Being the hungry himpos that we are, we also ordered a generous slice of Alfajor cake to go along with the drinks.
When visiting Peru you definitely have to try both of these tasty Peruvian alcoholic beverages!

Peruvian Drinks: Pisco Sour vs Chilcano in Lima, Peru Travel Video Transcript:
#eatPERU
So it is past twelve noon which I think means it is acceptable to get a little boozy. We are going to be doing a taste test of Pisco Sour versus Chilcano. Both drinks are made with Pisco but they are quite different so those should be coming soon.
And what goes better with Pisco than a little bit of cake. Exactly! So we're getting an alfajor and normally it comes in a like a biscuit form but this time apparently it is coming in torta cake size. So that is something unique, we've never tried that before so it is going to be pretty cool.
So the cocktail has arrived. This is the Pisco Sour. Yes. And this is my all-time favorite Peruvian drink. It is amazing. I can't wait to try it here.
So how does it taste? As you might imagine. It is sour. But also quite sweet. Yeah. So, the Pisco Sour is made from a number of different ingredients so you've got your grape brandy the Pisco which actually comes from the town of Pisco here in Peru. Yeah. Then you've got your egg white on top. If you take a look down here you've got your egg white on top, a little bit of bitter which is the brown. Nice and frothy. Yes, that is the key. And then here you also have lemon or lime juice and often a little bit of syrup added to give it some extra bit of sugar. Extra bit of sweet. So that is one very sweet cocktail. Very refreshing on a hot day. Yeah, and this is considered the National drink of Peru.
Mixing it all up with my little seahorse. So I ordered the Chilcano and this is a cocktail that is made with Pisco, ginger ale and a little bit of lime juice.
You know who would really like this? Would be my Mom. She loves ginger ale.
That is a little stronger than I was expecting. Potent. Potent. I was hoping it would be a little bit watered down with all of the ice cubes but no that is definitely got Pisco in there and you can taste it.
It burns on the way down. I might need to help you out with that one huh?
Actually, the first time we tried Chilcanos it was in Cusco, we thought we were going to a Pisco museum but when we got there it was actually more like a bar. So we ordered I think it was like four different Chilcanos with different flavors. So that was pretty cool. This one that I'm having right now is just the classic. Basically ginger ale, lime and Pisco. But you can get fancy and like make strawberry ones, cinnamon ones and just you know different flavors.
So we also got a little bit of dessert to go along with our drinks since we already had lunch. We sure did. How could we miss out on the opportunity to have dessert, right?
So this is really interesting. This is the cake form of a Peruvian alfajor.
I already started eating mine while you weren't looking. That is so good. I just absolutely love alfajores. Like we devoured them when we were in Argentina, we liked them here in Peru and to have it in cake form that is really unique. Like it has all of these different layers. Yeah, thin layers and it is super crumbly and in between each layer you have manjar blanco, which is kind of like dulce de leche, and then icing sugar sprinkled all over top. Yeah, exactly. And there isn't that much manjar blanco in between each layer so you definitely taste it but it is not overwhelming. Really good though.

Comida Nikkei Food: Eating Japanese Peruvian Cuisine in Lima, Peru
When we first heard Peru has a special kind of Japanese Peruvian Cuisine we couldn't wait to get our chopsticks on it. Given that we both love Japanese food and we both adore Peruvian cuisine, some kind of hybrid between the two, sounded very enticing. After researching for a while, we decided to visit TAIKEN SUSHI LOUNGE located in Miraflores. The restaurant decor was tastefully put together making us feel like we were having an authentic Japanese restaurant experience. We ended up ordering several Nikkei dishes including acebichado, tempura with local fish, sushi, nigiri and sashimi. It was an incredible meal and we ended up getting some complimentary ceviche inspired rolls near the end of our meal. We couldn't even finish it all. If you'd like to visit this restaurant here is the address:

Comida Nikkei Food: Eating Japanese Peruvian Cuisine in Lima, Peru Travel Video Transcript:
#eatPERU
Okay, so for today's lunch we are eating at a place called Taiken and they specialize in Nikkei food. Now this is something that I hadn't heard of until I came to Peru but apparently Peru has the second largest Japanese population in all of South America. And that has really influenced the cuisine. So Nikkei is the combination of Peruvian and Japanese culinary inspiration. So yeah, we're going to be trying some Japanese Peruvian food today.
Okay, so first up we are going to try the Yakitori which is basically a skewer. And this one has chicken. And I see a bit of spice there. Spicy chili powder. So I'm going to dip it in.
This is really good. The food just keeps rolling in. It has a like a sweet glaze. So what makes this Nikkei?
Okay, so this right here is Pejerrey tempura. Tempura time. And this is basically the local catch. Which makes it. And this sauce is really unique because normally when I've had a dipping sauce, like when I'm having Japanese food, it is typically cold. And this is piping hot. You can actually see the steam coming off of it. Whoops!
That is really nice. Okay, one second to chew this. So, when we ordered this one off of the menu we saw that it said acevichado which kind of sounds like Ceviche and if you try this fish you'll be able to tell that it has been cured in lime and it just has a very zesty fresh flavor. You actually don't even need the soy sauce because it is so flavorful on its own. And I'm still not entirely sure about the green powder but I do like it. So yeah, that is like a really interesting twist on sushi because you have the ceviche influence coming through. So pretty cool.
I really thought the different rolls that tasted a bit like ceviche were incredibly unique and something we've never tasted anywhere else in any other kind of Japanese type of restaurant. So it was really really cool. And also the unique tempura as well. And then to have some of our favorite classic Japanese rolls along with that. It just made for a pretty exceptional meal to be honest. So overall, would you say Nikkei food is more Japanese or more Peruvian? It is kind of in the middle of that spectrum. I mean, like yeah, obviously you can order your Japanese classics but when you're eating the ones that taste a bit like ceviche I would say it is more Peruvian. So thumbs up for Nikkei! Two. Yeah.
And price point for that Nikkei meal? Price point, so that came to a hundred and thirty Soles which is $40 US dollars. In terms of value that was incredible. I mean, we had to bring home a whole bunch of it. We couldn't finish it off. It was a lot of food. Yeah, especially with that complimentary set of rolls. Really really good quality, excellent food, I'd highly recommend this restaurant and to experience Nikkei food in Lima, Peru.
This is part of our Travel in Peru series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Peruvian culture, Peruvian arts, Peruvian foods, Peruvian religion, Peruvian cuisine and Peruvian people.

Is LIMA Really the Food Capital of South America? ???? Eating Chicharrón, Lomo saltado & Sushi in Peru
Because we had such a good time trying Peruvian food in Lima a couple of weeks ago and we missed out on a few things, we decided to do a part #2. WATCH PART 1 HERE:
Lima (and Peru) is famous for having some of the best food in all of South America, so it definitely made sense to go out on a second trek around Lima to find some fantastic food!
To start things off, we went to a very famous sandwich place in Lima called La Lucha Sangucheria. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait too long for our food. Here we tried the Chicharron sandwich (what they are known for) and a pollo con piña y queso sandwich (Chicken with pineapple and cheese).
Next up we tried a very popular carbonated drink in Peru. This is a type of soda or pop called Inca Kola and you can pretty much get it anywhere in Lima!
After this we made our way to a sushi restaurant. This may sound a bit strange for South America, but Lima has a large Asian and Japanese population and they now have their own type of sushi which fuses both Peruvian flavours and sushi together and is known as Nikkei.
Lastly we stuck with the Asian theme but went for some Chinese Peruvian food. We went to a fast food chain called Sr. Saltado. Here we tried the famous dish Lomo Saltado, as well as a chicken dish called Tallarin Saltado.
ABOUT LIMA
Lima, the capital of Peru, lies on the country's arid Pacific coast. Though its colonial center is preserved, it's a bustling metropolis and one of South America’s largest cities. It's home to the Museo Larco collection of pre-Columbian art and the Museo de la Nación, tracing the history of Peru’s ancient civilizations. The Plaza de Armas and the 16th-century cathedral are the heart of old Lima Centro.
ABOUT PERU
Peru is a country in South America that's home to a section of Amazon rainforest and Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan city high in the Andes mountains. The region around Machu Picchu, including the Sacred Valley, Inca Trail and colonial city of Cusco, is rich in archaeological sites. On Peru’s arid Pacific coast is Lima, the capital, with a preserved colonial center and important collections of pre-Columbian art.
