We lived next to Aoshima island in a share house in Miyazaki. We were there in the end of golden week so it was a lot of people. The next day we took the bus to Aya Suspension Bridge and it was magical! No pictures can show what it looks like in reality.
Thank you for watching! ❤︎

The MOST POPULAR ISLAND in MIYAZAKI | Aoshima, Miyazaki
Heading back north after exploring the Nichinan Coast, we stopped at Aoshima, an island just south of Miyazaki City. It seems to be the most popular thing when Googling about Miyazaki.
Highlight of the tiny island include, the Devils Washboard and Aoshima Shrine in the jungle.
Overall, a cute little island worth a stop if passing through Miyazaki.
Much love and happy travels

Aoshima Island & Shrine, Miyazaki 宮崎 青島
Aoshima Island, located in Miyazaki Prefecture, is a small island surrounded by uneven rock formations called “Ogre’s washboard (Oni-no-sentaku-ita).” It’s said that this tiny island was made by shells and is covered by more than 5000 palm trees. There is a shrine on the island that was established before 820 A.D. and was considered to be a holy place; it was closed to common people for a long time.

Aoshima 青島 is a small island in the south of Japan and belongs to the city Miyazaki. The island is located east of the main island of Kyūshū.
The island is characterized by a subtropical plant society 亜熱帯性 植物群落 植物群落, of 226 species, which is one of the northernmost such populations and therefore was designated as the special natural monument of Japan on 29 March 1952.
Aoshima is connected to the mainland by the Yayoi Bridge 生 橋 and is ringed by white beaches surrounding a subtropical jungle at the island's center.
It is a 1.5 kilometer walk around Aoshima's beaches with a number of canvas stands selling souvenirs along the way. At the center of the island is Aoshima shrine 青島神社, a colorful shrine set back in the jungle that is said to bring luck to married couples.
The island is known for the rock formations surrounding it, which are known as the washboard of the demons 鬼 の 板 板, because of their long, parallel and straight furrows - as they can also be seen in the adjacent aerial image. Declared
as a natural monument on 1 May 1934. Geologically, they emerged 7 million years ago when the seabed rose and consist of alternating layers of harder sandstone and softer clay, the structure being formed by the stronger erosion of the clay by the waves.

Aoshima (青島 Aoshima), also known as Cat Island (猫の島 Neko no shima), is an island in Ehime Prefecture, Japan, known for its large number of feline residents. Cats outnumber humans by a ratio of approximately 6:1. They were introduced on ships in the area, but remained on the island and vastly repopulated.
The island is roughly 1 mile (1.6 km) long.[citation needed] It was formerly part of Nagahama in Kita District, but, as of 2005, is part of Ōzu.
4K 日南海岸 宮崎県 Coastline Miyazaki Kyushu JAPAN
Nichinan-kaigan Coast, located in the southern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, is the southernmost saw-toothed coastline in Japan, extending about 100 kilometers from Aoshima Island to Cape Toi. In addition to Devil's washboard 鬼の洗濯板, which spreads around Aoshima Island, and Udo Shrine, there are scenic spots dotted here and there. On the Nichinan coastlines facing the southern blue sea, Washington palms grow, which makes the highway one of the prettiest on Kyushu.

Japan Trip: Aoshima Island geological phenomenon devil's washboard , Kyushu Miyazaki No.005
Aoshima Island ( Aoshima) is a small, beautiful island just off of the coast of the resort beaches south of Miyazaki City. Aoshima is connected to the mainland by Yayoi bridge. It is ringed by white beaches surrounding a subtropical jungle at the island's center.
It is a 1.5 kilometer walk around Aoshima's beaches with a number of shops stands selling souvenirs and snacks along the way. At the center of the island is Aoshima Jinja, a colorful shrine set back in the jungle that is said to bring good fortune to married couples.
The scenery and silence along the way can be quite spellbinding. At the small shrine you can buy clay disks which are thrown at a target for luck.
The shallow water around the island has a geological phenomenon known as Oni no Sentakuita, or devil's washboard. It can be visible at low tide. These perfectly straight rows of basalt rock look as if they must be the remnants of something manmade. They are natural formations, however, which can be found farther south along the Nichinan Coast as well.
