Ebino Kogen Plateau, Miyazaki 宮崎 えびの高原
Ebino Kogen Plateau, located at the border of Kagoshima and Miyazaki in southern Kyushu, is a popular trekking spot in this highly volcanic area. It belongs to Kirishima-Yakushima National Park and there are some beautiful crater lakes at 1200m above sea level. Clouds of steams are everywhere, and lots of hot springs are scattered about the region.

Our first day in Miyazaki city. We are going to the beach and try out the delicious dish yakiniku. At night we discover a huntsman spider in the bathroom and freak out, haha. Since we are from Scandinavia we are not used to spiders that big.
Thank you so much for watching!

[Beautiful Japan]Miyazaki prefecture, Nichinan City”Best trip in Japan ever”
Nichinan-shi, Miyazaki prefecture is well known to Japanese from a famous Japanese old tale, ”Umisachi Yamasachi,“ about the quarrel between god’s brothers.
You can feel the tolerant, warm heart of the locals who protected the village of gods.
Japanese people believe Miyazaki prefecture was the first place where Japanese gods came down. Watch this video and enjoy beautiful Miyazaki, full of myths and legends.

4K 飫肥 日南市 宮崎県 Obi Nichinan Miyazaki Kyushu JAPAN
The Obi district 飫肥, in the center of Nichinan 日南市 city, used to be a small castle town nicknamed 'Little Kyoto'.
Obi Castle 飫肥城. The main gate of the castle was restored with 100-year-old Obi cedar in 1978. Within the castle, the samurai’s mansion, the storehouse, and the white-walled merchant building still remain.
You will often find yourself alone, feeling faintly contrite at having so much space in a country where tourists are accustomed to being shoehorned into such places.
Obi is quite unaffected by mainstream tourism.
There can be very few places of historical or cultural interest in Japan that remain positively underexploited for their tourist potential.
Regarded by many as the cradle of Japanese civilization, Miyazaki prefecture is a wonderful place full of historically significant sites. One of the most beautiful and picturesque of these is Obi town, in Nichinan city.

Miyazaki || Kyushyu, Japan
Last stop in Kyushu, we went to Miyazaki! First stop was the Hewadai Park where the peace tower and the beautiful Haniwa garden is. Haniwa are old figurines from the Kofun period (250-538 AD) that were used for funerary purposes. These are all replicas of real ones found throughout excavations. We took a bus after that to Misogi pond where Izanagi washed away his misogi (bad energy) from Hell after trying to save his wife, Izanami, from death. The two are the creation gods who birthed Japan and the Sun Goddess.
Afterwards we took a train to Aoshima and stayed there. In the morning we took a bus to Udo Jingu, the most beautiful shrine in all of Japan on a cliff in the far south of Kyushu. Here a typhoon hit and we got stranded. We had to hitchhike back to Aoshima with my limited Japanese skills on our side! Afterwards we braved the typhoon and checked out the beautiful shrine on the small island attached to the beach where couples will come to pray for a beautiful and fantastic love.

And, ring that bell like it's Christmas morning! (Also, because I hear they don't celebrate Xmas the same here . . .)
You ever have something super hectic happen, even though you had a plan, but then your plans change, and yet the gods that control the Japanese weather decide mortals need another reminder of their feebleness?
Well, that's pretty much what happened here!
We had heard, literally the day before, confirmation that this day was going to be THE LAST EVER Sunflower Festival held in Takanabe. Like. Ever. Like ever, man.
So, we rushed up there all the way from Kushima (where we live now, and very nearly almost biked the 100km+), in order to beat the Category 2 Hurricane equivalent Typhoon that was blowing in the next day. Not wanting to die, we got a ride from our new friend Gaku, who was kind enough to take us.
And, when we arrived . . .
We discovered that all the PREVIOUS typhoons that have been wrecking southern Japan with weeks worth of nonstop torrential rains, heavy winds, and dark skies have caused this year's sunflower crop to be a bit down in the dumps. Seriously, apparently this season has been exceptionally, uncharacteristically rainy and storm filled, and has caused some notable landslides in the Kumamoto area. Now, this place is known for having weather like this, but it's also known for being THE sunniest place in Japan, hence the sunflowers.
Yet, I'm glad we made it! And, I'm even more glad to discover that the festival WILL BE CONTINUING! Yippee! So, now all of us will have many more chances to see the sunflowers in their full, turgid glory.
But, wanting to make a day out of our roadtrip through Miyazaki Prefecture, we also made a stop at one of Gaku's favorite udon restaurants. This was my first time ever trying udon, but I've always wanted to taste the cold variety!
Just as well, on our way back, we made a nice long stop at the Summer Night Market in Aoshima, just south of Miyazaki city proper. This Night Market is a gorgeous affair, lined with candle-lit lanterns across a seaside park, speckled with local vendor booths, and sporting plenty of live music. Plus, it's near some top-notch botanical gardens that are worth browsing. Though I suspect, unless you can read Japanese halfway decently, you may have some difficulty. But, if memory serves, there are English accommodations as well!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this shorter video and are excited for more to come! Thanks for watching, and experiencing Japan in Tandem.

高千穂峡・宮崎県・Takachiho, Miyazaki, Kyushu JAPAN 日本
Takachiho Gorge 高千穂峡. Carved by the Gokase River, the highlight here is the 17m Minai-no-taki Waterfall from a boat is beautiful and mysterious.
While there is a hiking path along the edge, it's best viewed by renting a boat (¥2000/30 min) and going for a paddle, since the current is gentle and easy to navigate.
Takachiho Gorge was formed from lava from Mount Aso which over time eroded to create 80 to 100 m high cliffs of volcanic basalt columns. Its old mysterious abysses and water trickling from rocks are complemented by vivid greenery.
CAMPING in JAPAN - Nobeoka, Miyazaki
Every year the JETs in Oita and the JETs in Miyazaki do a joint camping trip to Nobeoka, Miyazaki. I thought it would be a good time to show you what camping is like in Japan.
Camping in Japan is a little bit different that what I have always associated with camping in Canada. It's not exactly roughing it. But from my experience camping in Japan, this is pretty standard stuff.
Despite the rain, it was a fun time.
Much love and happy travels
