Route 41 from Asahikawa to Wakkanai. It's not as easy of a trip as I thought ... I couldn't get onto the highway or bi pass so I had to take the local roads.

3 Hidden Gems in Tokyo: Japan Travel Vlog
In this Tokyo vlog, shot during the spring months of late March and early April 2018, I explore three hidden gems that do not come up often on regular beaten path.
My criteria was pretty simple. I wanted to venture somewhere that would appeal to my creative side and so, naturally, anything with a hint of photography fit the bill just about perfectly.
The first gem is called the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (TOP Museum for short).
What I liked most about it was, quite simply, it’s about photography and nothing else. There are five or more floors housing different exhibitions at any given time.
Photography themes range from street captures (my favourite), to landscape photography, sports, people and culture or just about anything in between.
Whatever can be captured through your lens, I'm sure at some point has been displayed or will be displayed on these walls. No filming or photos are aloud inside, as I discovered shortly after trying to snap a few on my iPhone. Bad Stevie.
The second hidden gem is called the Spiral Building, or, as locals call it, the Wacoal Art Center in Tokyo’s Aoyama district. This building is a cool mix of art-gallery, restaurants, shops and tea stores spread out among several floors. At the time of this video, half the building was undergoing renovation so so only the first two or three floors were open to the public.
The building was designed in 1985 by famed architect, Fumihiko Maki and is celebrated as a masterpiece among architecture lovers. For me though, a coffee and tea fiend, the main pull was the share variety of tea products available in a number of stores. The creative ways in which the merchandise was displayed (highlighted in the video), also made for a really compelling visual experience.
Last but certainly not least, I indulged in perhaps the best udon my mouth has ever tasted! I discovered this gem purely by accident. After waking up around 5:00 am for a golden-hour photoshoot, I popped into to a 7-Eleven convenience store and ended up chitchatting with a local who spoke English.
She recommended Tsuro TonTan for breakfast, which happened to be just a few blocks from my hotel. The rest my friends is vividly captured in this video, and, my tastebuds will always be thankful to that young lady who said hi to a foreigner!
Detective Conan Town/Hokuei, Totori, JPN |
I'm FINALLy HEREEEEEE
Conan Town!
Conan Town = Hokuei. it's where the author of DC grew up. The town itself was suppppper rural that I had to transfer to a local train in order to get to the station, Yura. Hokuei is in Tottori Prefecture, so if you plan to make a stop there, you can plan a few days visit to Tottori. For me, since I'm a backpacker and did not have time to go to Tottori, I basically did a day-trip to Conan Town.
After getting off at Yura station, you're in Conan Town. There's nothing to see besides Conan, literally. Follow Conan Street for about 30 minute and you will get to the Conan Museum.
Buy a lot of merch! You won't regret it lol

Hello HOKUEI vol.10 610KITCHEN
610 Kitchen, a delicious restaurant, café and bar in Hokuei (610
In Hokuei (“Conan Town”) in Tottori Prefecture there is a restaurant, café and bar that I highly recommend called “610 Kitchen.” They serve some of the most delicious dishes. 610 Kitchen is a spacious place that reminds me of home (USA) whenever I go there to eat or drink. Whether for lunch or dinner, their hamburger sets, specialty dishes, homemade desserts, and baked fresh in-house breads are amazing! Personally, I recommend the Chicken Nanban dish. It’s delectable!
610 Kitchen even uses local vegetables to support local farmers! Also, they have a children’s play area and the entire shop is barrier-free, and so the restaurant is accessible by everyone. That is, if you can find it... The restaurant is tucked away in a bit of a difficult place to find, but if you watch this “Hello Hokuei” video, you will soon learn how to find 610 Kitchen. Also, in this video, I am assisted by our two local Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs). They are Ms. Phyfer from America on the Hojo side of Hokuei, and Ms. Supria from Jamaica on the Daiei side of Hokuei.
We hope to see you at 610 Kitchen restaurant, café and bar in Hokuei soon.

Cycling: Mitaka to Okubo, Tokyo Japan [4K]????
I biked from Mitaka Station to Okubo Station (13km), mostly along the JR Chuo Line. I had never noticed the mural in front of Okubo Station before, but that is the beauty of travelling by bicycle -- discovering new things that may have been missed otherwise. The mural depicts the ninja-turned-musketeer Hundred-Men Battalion (teppo-gumi hyakunin-tai 鉄炮組百人隊 or abbreviated as hyakunin-gumi 百人組), founded by Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616) to defend his shogunate in the new capital of Edo.

Fun things to do in Japan? What to do in Japan? There are always lots of events happening in Japan like the Tokyo Ramen Show in Komazawa Olympic Park!
It's basically an event where ramen from all around the nation gather in one place for you to taste and see the different variations of ramen for each region in Japan.
The four main common flavours are salt(shio), miso, pork bone(tonkotsu) and soy sauce(shoyu). In the Kyushu region the tonkotsu flavour is more common whereas in Hokkaido the miso flavour is seen as the norm.
Hope you guys enjoy the video!

Michelin Star Sushi vs Traditional Sushi | Tokyo Sushi Restaurants
Some of Tokyo's best high-end sushi restaurants that have excellent quality at a fair price. Since the reservations and wait for the 3 michelin star Sukiyabashi Jiro Sushi restaurant can be more than months or years, I thought I could give you some alternative restaurants that deliver when it comes to omakase sushi!
This time I was able to try sushi from Sushi Kimura, a michelin 2 star sushi restaurant.
What's different about Kimura’s sushi compared to the other 20 michelin starred sushi restaurants in Tokyo, is that he serves aged fish sushi. More than 90% of the michelin starred sushi restaurants serve edomae sushi which consists of the traditional raw fish.
I was also able to try sushi from Sushi Namba, a small 12 seater sushi shop located in the local suburbs of Tokyo and has run purely by word of mouth for 50 years. (This time I had permission to film and share his work with you here :D)
Having both the chef's prepare the sushi right in front of me, and seeing how concentrated, passionate and serious they were about sushi was truly inspiring.
Hope you guys enjoy the video and the sushi experience :)
