Apedale is a village in Staffordshire, England. The population at the 2011 census can be found under the Holditch of Newcastle-under-Lyme. The village is home to the 454 acres Apedale Community Country Park. The park is unusual for the area as it was previously an opencast mine. The area has a long history of mining, with the nearby former collieries at Silverdale and Holditch also having been redeveloped for other uses.

EXPLORING | APEDALE HERITAGE CENTRE (OUTSIDE) | 2018

The Apedale Heritage Centre was created at the site of Staffordshire's Apedale Mine and is run by volunteers. It is located just outside the village of Chesterton near Newcastle-under-Lyme in the Apedale Community Country Park.

Attractions include mine tours and a museum which concentrates on the area's history, concentrating on industrial heritage.

The site is also the home of the Moseley Railway Trust's collection of narrow gauge industrial locomotives. A selection of locomotives can be viewed in the Heritage Centre museum and the Trust holds open days for the public. Work is under way to construct a separate museum and railway for the collection.

Kent,s lane colliery in Silverdale, Staffordshire uk opened in 1830. It provided coal to local ironworks. It produced more coal than any other local coal mine. In 1998 it was the last mine in Staffordshire to shut down. This resulted in over 330 miners losing their jobs.

Today with a £55 million regeneration fund, 300 homes have been built (still under construction) with the creation of a huge country park and wildlife reserve.

Where once industry was rife on a massive scale, now you can see with this video how the land has been cleaned up and passed back to nature for all to enjoy.

The Sound Check: Chesterton

The Sound Check: Chesterton Youth Centre programme runs from Apr - Jul 08 and Sept - Dec 08. After 14 weeks, the talented musicians from Chesterton Youth Centre performed their first gig on stage. For many of the young people, this was either the first time they'd ever been able to learn to play an instrument, let alone play in a band together.
