Impressie van een bezoek aan de Apenheul. De Bonobo's, de Oerang Oetangs en de Gorilla's waren speels in het nazomerzonnetje.

Apenheul is een gespecialiseerde dierentuin aan de rand van de Nederlandse stad Apeldoorn. In de Apenheul leven ruim 300 apen van zo'n 35 verschillende soorten uit Afrika, Zuid-Amerika en Azië. De dieren leven er heel vrij: gaas of tralies ziet men er bijna niet. Sommige soorten lopen los tussen de bezoekers rond. Andere, zoals de gorilla's, bonobo's en orang-oetans leven op grote, groene eilanden. Door de ruime verblijven en de natuurlijke groepen waarin de dieren gehouden worden, kunnen de dieren veel van hun natuurlijke gedrag laten zien.

Apenheul opened with primates at large in 1971. This was soon to be followed by great apes living on cleverly designed islands. This was revolutionary for man and animal alike. Visitors can meet the primates directly, living in a natural environment where they can be themselves.
The primates at Apenheul act as ambassadors for their wild relatives. Our goal here is to pass on a love of nature.
Affenpark Apenheul in Apeldoorn
Zu Gast bei freilaufenden Affen für eine gemeinsame Kletteraktion? Das Andere Holland macht's möglich im Affenpark Apenheul. Nur einen Astsprung hinter der Grenze haben die Kletterkünstler das Sagen. Ein malerischer Park, ein normaler dichter Wald - doch der erste Eindruck täuscht: Inmitten dieser Idylle sind die Affen los. Und das im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Im Affenpark Apenheul - das bedeutet so viel wie Affenhöhle -- leben Hunderte Affen in Freiheit.
Vor allem die kleinen Totenkopfaffen nutzen die Gelegenheit, auf den Schultern der Besucher herum zu klettern und nach Leckereien Ausschau zu halten. Wenn Sie nach oben schauen, sehen Sie, wie sich die Affen gekonnt durch die Baumwipfel schwingen.
Die großen Affenarten wie die Gorillas und die Orang-Utans leben auf abgegrenzten Inseln. Trotzdem lassen sie sich aus nächster Nähe beobachten – bei der Fütterung, beim Spielen oder beim Faulenzen.
Auf mehreren Spielplätzen und im „Haus zum Nachäffen“ können die jungen Gäste ihren Bewegungsdrang ausleben und wie die Affen durch die Gegend klettern. Im „Haus zum Nachäffen“ entdecken die Kleinen auf dem Weg durch das Labyrinth wie ähnlich wir Affen eigentlich sind.
Genug Erholungsmöglichkeiten gibt es im Affenpark ebenfalls. Dafür hat Apenheul Picknickplätze angelegt, die vor neugierigen Affen sicher sind. Oder Sie gönnen sich mit der ganzen Familie eine leckere Portion Bio-Pommes mit Ausblick auf die Gorilla-Insel. Auch kann im „Café Lazy Monkey“ köstlicher Fair-Trade Kaffee aus Peru genossen werden. Affenpark Alpenheul bietet viele verschiedene Lokale, in denen Sie sich für die weitere Expedition stärken können.

Located in Apeldoorn, NL, the Apenheul zoo is specialized in apes and monkeys. It started 1971 with just a few species, now it displays more than 30 different primates.

Apenheul is een prachtig, groen dierenpark waar jaarlijks zo’n 500.000 mensen een onvergetelijk dagje uit beleven.
Apenheul - Apeldoorn
Apenheul is een gespecialiseerde dierentuin aan de rand van de Nederlandse stad Apeldoorn. De tuin ligt midden in het natuurpark Berg & Bos (200 ha). In Apenheul leven apen uit Afrika, Zuid-Amerika en Azië. De dieren leven er heel vrij: gaas of tralies ziet men er bijna niet. Sommige soorten lopen zomaar tussen de bezoekers rond. Andere, zoals de gorilla's, bonobo's en orang-oetans leven op ruime eilanden waar hun natuurlijk gedrag heel goed bestudeerd kan worden.
1971: Apenheul wordt opgericht door Wim Mager, die de voormalige Bloemenhal met ca. 1,5 hectare grond huurt voor een bedrag van één gulden. Van het begin af aan werd gekozen voor een eigen concept: een aantal apen leefde vrij in het bos en kon vrij tussen de bezoekers lopen. Apenheul is de enige dierentuin waar apen op deze schaal vrij tussen de bomen en de bezoekers leven.

Apenheul Primate Park was conceptualised by photographer Wim Mager in the 1960s, when it was legal for private citizens to own monkeys. Mager, who himself had several apes as pets, believed both humans and apes would benefit from housing the animals in a more natural forest-like environment. He created the apen-heul (from apen meaning monkeys, and heul, an old Dutch word for a safe haven).
