Apo Reef The Second Largest Coral Reef System in the World!
Our next destination is the second largest contiguous reef in the world- Apo Reef. We took a ferry from Batangas port to Abra de Ilog and traveled about 3-4 hours by van to Sablayan port before embarking another 2 hours of boat ride to Apo Reef. This time, we were with Explore Occidental Mindoro Travel and Tours which made sure we had a smooth sailing trip. They have a big spacious boat and the food they serve is so delicious. For our first day of the trip, we camped in the island. To see the underwater beauty of Apo Reef and the magnificent views of Apo Reef Natural Park, watch our full video in HD.

Dive Expedition at Apo Reef Natural Park, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro
The team went on a roadtrip from Iloilo to Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro to visit the famed dive sites of Apo Reef Natural Park. We took the trip April 2019. Summer is the best season to visit the there. The visibility is crazy clear, around 40 meters!
The video are our trip highlights. We went diving and freediving for three days. We stayed in the huts and consumed all the ocean and sun that we can get. Hope you will enjoy the video and visit Apo Reef.

Apo Reef Natural Park Epic Travel Vlog (Part 2)
Apo Reef is a coral reef system in the Philippines situated on the western waters of Occidental Mindoro province in the Mindoro Strait. Encompassing 34 square kilometers, it is considered the world's second-largest contiguous coral reef system and is the largest in the country.
Apo Reef Natural Park Itinerary (Second/Last Day)
Watch sunrise at Apo Reef
Visit and swim at shipwreck
Pod of dolphins encounter on the way back to Sablayan
Short stop at Pandan Island for snorkeling with sea turtles and sting rays
Part 1:
To reach Apo Reef Natural Park from Manila, take the 2.5 – 3 hours bus ride (at Cubao or Makati) going to Batangas Pier, aboard a 2-3 hours Ro-Ro going to Abra de Ilog, then take a 3-hours bus going to Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro. For a faster and more convenient travel, you can drive your own car to Batangas Pier, board the Ro-Ro and drive to Sablayan. From Sablayan, rent a boat going to Apo Reef Natural Park. You can also visit and snorkel at Pandan Island where you could swim with sea turtles and sting rays.
Bus fare from Manila to Batangas Pier is around P200. Roro to Abra de Ilog is P260 per pax and car fee is P2,080 including driver’s fare, terminal fee, arrastre, etc. Boat rental costs P12,000 for 15 pax (or P800 each). Entrance fee to the island is P390 per pax (but twice the cost for foreigners).
There are no accommodations and electricity in the island, but there’s a deep well for bathing and washing dishes. You need to bring your own tent, sleeping bags, cooking gears and food and drinks if you plan to camp at Apo Reef. Aside from snorkeling, you could also visit the lagoon found on the island and watch the sunset at the top of the lighthouse.

Scuba Diving in Apo Reef, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, Philippines
Apo Reef in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro is considered to be one of the best dive locations in the Philippines. It is a marine protected area encompassing 34 square kilometers! It is the largest atoll-like reef in the Philippines and second largest in the world next to Australia's Great Barrier Reef!
TRAVEL GUIDE:
I still remember the first time I went scuba diving here back in 2014 and seeing a big school of bumphead parrot fishes for the first time. Although I didn't see that many parrot fishes this time around, Apo Reef delivers with tons of sharks, turtles and barracudas!
Apo Reef can be visited for a day taking a 2 hour boat ride from Sablayan town itself. I opted to join a dive group for a 3 days, 2 nights trip to Apo Reef instead as I remember my first visit to be too short.
We camped in Apo Reef Island where there is no signal and electricity is only from 6PM to 6AM. Perfect for those who want a social media detox!
It is important to note that there is another Apo Island in the Philippines. That other Apo Island is located in Dumaguete and offers amazing diving as well!

Apo Reef Sablayan Occidental Mindoro Philippines
Today, we woke up early to catch the beautiful sunrise in Apo Reef. We then headed to the boat for breakfast and started to sail for our first stop, a shipwreck. They don't have a name for this shipwreck but they said this was a Taiwanese vessel. The water is clear and the wreck is full of fishes and corals. Afterwards, we headed to Pandan Island. On our way, we were lucky to see some dolphins swimming and doing somersaults. Once we reached Pandan lsland, we already saw sea turtles in the clear blue waters. Pandan Island is beautiful. It surrounded with fine white sand beach and clear blue waters. Watch the full video to see the beautiful turtles of Pandan Island and longest island to island zipline in the world!
