The Mountains-to-Sea Trail is as diverse as North Carolina. Along the trail, you may see mountain vistas, rolling Piedmont farms, picture postcard colonial towns, weathered tobacco barns, old textile villages, country churches, rushing mountain streams, coastal swamps, hardwood and pine forests, lighthouses, sand dunes, miles of seashore, and friendly people. 680 miles of the route are on trail, and connecting backroads and an optional paddle route allow hikers to trek across the state.
The lodge was built in 1903 and 1904 to be a summer home for Dr. Chase P. Ambler and his family, and it served as this until it was sold in November of 1920. The children and their mother went to the lodge when school was closed for the summer, and returned to Asheville just before school opened in the fall. Dr. Ambler, who had a medical practice in Asheville, would always come up on the weekends and usually on Wednesdays. He also spent many of his vacations there, and frequented the lodge during winter and spring. He especially spent a lot of time there during the first several years, when the out-buildings and the trails were being built.
The Folk Art Center is home to the Southern Highland Craft Guild. The center showcases the finest in traditional and contemporary crafts of the Southern Appalachians. In addition to an Eastern National bookstore and Blue Ridge Parkway information desk, the center houses three galleries, a library and the Guild’s oldest craft shop. Beginning in March each year, visitors can see live craft demonstrations daily in the Folk Art Center lobby. The Folk Art Center is located in east Asheville on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a five-minute drive from downtown.

(4th bdrm, once completed is located in full finished walkout basement.) Lush and mature woodland foliage adorn both the front and backyard. There is also a sprawling deck with three double french doors where you can sit outside enjoying BBQ in the summers, and watch the beautiful sunsets and leaves change in the fall.
The wide-open layout of the main living areas fosters a tremendous opportunity for making lasting memories with friends and loved ones, without ever feeling cramped. Natural woodwork throughout & vaulted wood post beam ceilings that boast openness and ceiling fans that keep the air moving and the huge windows lend themselves beautifully to making the home feel as wide and open, as it does warm. No log home is complete without a big fireplace, and you will find a fabulous one in the great room. This ventless gas fireplace takes a gloomy winter day and makes it feel cozy and warm with a traditional touch.
Entertaining is effortless in the spacious kitchen, with an eating area large enough for a country table that opens to the great room and leads to an immense deck. It is exactly what you would expect to find in a mountain home. Storage space and common kitchen clutter will never be a concern, thanks to the generous bank of wood cabinets. After a stressful day at the office, you will rejoice at the comfort of being able to lounge with a glass of wine on your sprawling deck; easily accessible from the kitchen, great room or first-floor master suite. Or you can soak in your new jetted tub in your master bathroom with double sinks.
The full finished walkout basement is a big surprise and is to be designed as a comfortable entertainment center with laundry room and a 2nd Master bath. (potential in-law suite or could be a second master suite, with large entertainment spaces and room for a workshop/storage. Plumbed for a 3rd bathroom/including plumbing for a sauna or maybe a kitchen?).
The attached one car garage has been converted to additional living space, it was a craft room, and large workshop with double doors to the backyard and patio making it easy to tackle your weekend honey-do lists. Lots of storage space in this home.
The sturdy construction and poured foundation are backed by a recently completed home inspection and a home warranty which covers the appliances within the home, as well as, the heating and air conditioning, so you will never have to worry during your first year of home ownership.
If you have been in search of a lifestyle that provides the comfort of seclusion and the convenience of accessibility to the outdoors and entertainment, don’t look any further. You will never hunger for entertainment or cultural opportunities with the frequent local festivals, Saturday concerts in the amphitheater, and historical events that take place throughout the year.

NC Beer Buzz - Riverbend Malt House - Asheville
In this episode of the NC Beer Buzz the NCBeerGuys do something a little different and take a tour of the Riverbend Malt House in Asheville with Brent Manning and Brian Simpson. Riverbend Malt House pledges to provide the area's craft brewers locally farmed, artisan malts that bring depth and character to your passion, while greatly lessening our impact on the earth'. The guys at Riverbend are nothing if not hands on as you will see as we tour their facility and get a look at what goes into the production of local malt. North Carolina is the leading small-grain producing state in the Southeast. NC farmers produce barley, soft wheat, and hard wheat varieties across the state, but a majority of the barley production occurs in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. At Riverbend they provide local producers with a stable outlet for their products. Interested in seeing the malting process in action for yourself? Give them a call to schedule a tour!
