Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society
A little while ago we paid a visit to Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire (uk), to visit one of the Uk's more unusual preservation railway groups locations. This railway is actually still in use as it belongs to the huge Scunthorpe steel works & also home to the Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society.
For more details please check out: Things to look out for if you visit (but unable to film them- though we did see them- ) is a pair of ex-BR class 20's in Corus livery, the various works loco's, also you may see a DB (ex EWS) class 60 delivering or collecting to / from the steel works. This winter the society will be doing brake van ride tours around the site. For dates of up coming tours please see:
Also coming shortly will be another update video on my model railway layout.
Thanks for watching.
UK - Scunthorpe Steelworks by Steam and Diesel, August 2017
The Doncaster P2 Locomotive Trust, who are raising funds to build the Gresley P2 2-8-2 express locomotive Cock of the North, had a day out courtesy of the Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society. The AFRPS operates an extensive steam and diesel service using the trackwork around the Scunthorpe Steel Works. This represents a remarkable partnership with British Steel, the new owners of the steelworks. The fact that a huge company like British Steel entrusts a society of volunteers in this way is, I suspect, unique in the world of railway preservation. The AFRPS occupies a depot, within the steelworks, where they are rebuilding a number of steam and diesel locomotives. On our tour, featured here, we were hauled alternatively by Cranford an 0-6-0 steam tank locomotive built by Avonside in Bristol and No.1, an 0-6-0 Rolls Royce powered centre cab diesel shunter built by The Yorkshire Engine Company in Sheffield. Coaches are one cab car and a centre car taken from a BR three car diesel multiple unit. The centre car has had its corridor connection removed and replaced with windows. There is a standard BR brake van completing the train and most of my shots are taken from this brake van.
Scunthorpe Steelworks steam tour
A rather windy visit to the Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society which runs on lines around Scunthorpe Steelworks.
Although a little difficult to find, it is well worth a visit - entrance is free although contributions are welcome.

The shed code, 36F on one of the locos appears to be a nod to 36A which was used by Doncaster main shed. The real Frodingham shed was 36C!

Scunthorpe Steelworks Torpedo train
Filmed during my visit to the Corus Steelworks at Scunthorpe during the Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society Diesel weekend 29th-30th April 2006 the Torpedo train is loaded with 300 tons of molten steel and is being moved around the site by a pair of the Hunslet Bo-Bo's I was on a train being hauled by one of the rare Highline locos at the time ;)
47 760 powers through Scunthorpe working 5Z20 Cleethorpes-Carnforth (with 47 786 and 47 854 DIT)
Hauling the ECS from the previous day's railtour from Cleethorpes-Edinburgh, 47 760 powers through Scunthorpe with a nice bit of turbocharger scream to accompany it. As well as having the weight of the ECS to contend with, 47 760 also had to cope with the added weight of 47 786 'Roy Castle OBE' and 47 854 'Diamond Jubilee' dead in tow. Both locomotives failed to start up at Cleethorpes in the morning, which necessetated 47 760 to make a run down from Carnforth to effect the rescue! Despite the bitter cold, it was certainly worth a trip out to see these fine locomotives on home turf!

Visit to Appleby Frodingham railway at Tata Steelworks Scunthorpe. This preservation society operates rail tours around the internal railway of this huge site, slotting in with its internal rail movements.
Note we were asked not to film any internal Tata plant, so this video faces the public road, and was taken at the AFRPS Frodingham platform
Scunthorpe Steel Works Brake Van Tour
Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society run rail tours around Scunthrope Steel Works on selected weekends though summer.
My Dad booked us on the Adult only Brake Van tour and we spent a couple of hours trundling around the British Steel. This little video is a snippet of what you may see, apparently the tour varies every time so it could be a surprise to what you get to see!
