Aquamarine Fukushima Iwaki, Japan
Aquamarine Fukushima (アクアマリンふくしま, Akuamarin Fukushima) (officially Marine Science Museum, Fukushima Prefecture (ふくしま海洋科学館, Fukushima Kaiyō Kagakukan)) is an aquarium located in Iwaki, Fukushima, Japan.
History
The aquarium opened on 15 July 2000. The nickname Aquamarine Fukushima was selected in 1998 from a total of 4,722 applications.
The 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami on 11 March 2011 resulted in power being cut off to the aquarium. Many fish died, but some marine mammals and sea birds were subsequently transferred to Kamogawa Sea World, 100 kilometers (62 mi) to the south, Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, Tokyo Sea Life Park, Mito Sea Paradise, and New Enoshima Aquarium. Although the main building sustained only minor damage, outside pools were washed away, and there was major damage to the electrical system (causing the death of about 90% of the animals in the aquarium). The facility was closed after the tsunami, and reopened to the public on 15 July 2011, following restoration. ~Wikipedia

Iwaki Aquamarine - Aquarium in Fukushima
One of Fukushima's better known tourist attractions (within Japan at least.) This aquarium is located in Iwaki, and while it's a bit of a hike to get there, it's very much worth the effort. It's also the first aquarium I've seen in Japan with English information signs.
The Official Website:
Aquamarine Fukushima/ FUKUSHIMA
Aquamarine Fukushima is an aquarium located in Fukushima. The place is themed on the collision of the Kuroshio and Oyashio currents right off the coast of Fukushima. Enjoy a variety of marine creatures home to these two currents.
The world’s biggest touch pool outside of the aquarium is a reproduction of Fukushima’s seashore, where you have the chance to touch several small sea animals. The Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011 damaged big parts of the aquarium and due to loss of electricity, many fish and animals died. Sea-lions and seals were evacuated to other aquariums in Japan.
After four months of reconstruction, the aquarium reopened and continued to give strength and joy to the region’s population.

Environmental Aquarium - Aquamarine Fukushima
One of the biggest aquariums in Fukushima. The main fish tanks based on the theme, rip current, which is one of the biggest characteristics of the seas of Fukushima, contain around 20,000 fish. The aquarium also features other exhibits, such as the huge touch pool, Janome Beach, which recreates the natural environment of the coastline.
Shioyazaki Lighthouse
This lighthouse, opened in 1899, stands atop a sheer cliff on the Usuiso Coastline. It was the location for the filming of Hibari Misora's Midare-gami. A monument carved with the lyrics from the song was erected here, attracting many tourists. Visitors can also tour the inside of the lighthouse.
Iwaki Marine Tower in Misaki Park
This is an observation tower built on a cape on the eastern edge of Onahama Harbor, overlooking the sea of Iwaki. The Sky Deck offers 360-degree panoramic views, giving visitors fantastic views of the entire Iwaki area.
Below is Misaki Park with a total area of 700,000 ㎡, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of different areas.
* We plan to post a series of fun movies on the official Fukushima Prefectural channel to focus attention on the charms of Fukushima's four seasons and provide all kinds of the latest information.

Iwaki Tourism Promotion Video - Sea
【Nice ocean view spots recommended by university students in Iwaki】
The coastal area of Iwaki is famous for its magnificent seashores and sometimes called a “Shonan in Tohoku.” Many people, including surfers from Tokyo, come to enjoy the seven unique beaches. This video shows you Shioyazaki Lighthouse, Shiomidai in Misaki Park, Iwaki Sun Marina, and Onahama Aquamarine Park. Driving the seaside, you could escape from your busy life in the city.
Actors in this video are members of NGA, a student organization of Iwaki Meisei University. A man is planning a date for his girlfriend, but he cannot decide where to go. Please enjoy their performance!
【The back ground of this Iwaki Tourist PV production】
Iwaki Meisei University received an offer to make this PV from the Hotel Business Liaison Council & Iwaki Chamber of Commerce Industry. Then, the volunteer group members of NGA launched a project team named IMU Iwaki Activation Team to make PVs about Iwaki city. With a supervising editor, Mr. Hidemi Takahagi, a professional of video production from ifeels Inc, it took five months to complete this project. Totally, five PVs with five respective themes, “Night Views,” “Mountains,” “Sea”, “Hot Spring” and “Gourmet” were made.
