SOT, Ekaterina Mikhailova, Krasnoyarsk Zoo staff member (speaking Russian): Kharkov Zoo asked us to help them because they are out of funds. Of course, people bring apples, bananas and carrots, but you can't pay your bills with those. What they need is money. So, our employees donated part of our salaries to Kharkov Zoo, and we have a collection box for visitors. Also, to increase awareness, we decided we'd teach our domesticated fox, Vesna, to draw pictures with his paws. He used to do it for fun, but now we will be giving these paintings to people who make a donation.

Vesna, an unusually artistic arctic fox, was busy painting Sunday at the Krasnoyarsk Zoo, creating works of art with his paws to raise money for a zoo in Ukraine. The one-year-old fox walks across paper with his paws dipped in coloured paint, and the paintings are then given to zoo visitors who make a donation that is sent to the Kharkov Zoo in Ukraine.
Ekaterina Mikhailova, a Krasnoyarsk Zoo staff member, says that the Kharkov Zoo is struggling financially, so staff came up with the idea both to support the zoo and to teach Vesna something new. The response has been positive, she adds, with all the money raised being to the Kharkov Zoo.
