Turtle Point is the main public centre for turtle rehabilitation in the Mediterranean. Turtles are moved here to rehabilitate them to a stage where they can be re-released into the wild. Obviously during their stay they are fed with live prey and at the same time we monitor their ability to be reintroduced in a natural environment.

We have just released two sea turtles who where hospitalised in Naples aquarium. They are called 'Aspasia' and 'Gomez'. Unfortunately they were hit by a propeller or by a keel. It happens very often. They suffered several traumas and they needed a pretty long hospitalisation. But now they've been released back into the wild, because finally they are back to full health.

LEAD IN:
Conservationists in the Gulf of Naples in Italy are fighting to save the loggerhead sea turtle (also known as caretta caretta).
It's numbers are threatened by the fishing nets of crab fishers and boats.
But there's hope for injured turtles found around the Amalfi Coast near Naples.
The Turtle Point of Bagnoli is the biggest public hospital dedicated to turtle conservation in the world.
STORYLINE:
Once hunted for their meat, eggs and fat, the loggerhead turtle's main enemy today is fishing boats and nets.
It's ability to travel long distances means the ancient sea turtle has a wide distribution from the Atlantic to the Pacific, the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean.
Caretta turtles migrate every summer towards the Tyrrhenian (western coast towards Sicily and north Africa) to feed on jellyfish, urchins, shrimps, crabs and mollusks.
The Gulf of Naples holds a great abundance of food for the turtles.
The region also contains risks - hundreds of commercial shipping routes and thousands of pleasure craft - especially during summer.
Sea turtles are very often victims of crashes with boat keels or propellers.
The fishing of turtles is forbidden.
