I take a sample of land grass from Central Park in NYC to check if it will grow underwater in my aquariums too ;)
Wash the grass clean from any dirt.
It was an important step for growing other land plants/mosses underwater ;)
Put the clean grass in a jar or a glass with dechlorinated water.
Initially I keep the sample on a windowsill exposed to direct sunlight.
First bubbles on the grass could be air trapped underwater.
Shake those bubbles off.
June 13th, 2018
New bubbles indicate that plant is alive and produces oxygen.
I anchor the grass with a seashell in a new nursery aquarium.
June 26th, 2018
I take new samples of land grass from Roosevelt Island.
There are many different types of grasses growing everywhere!
Looks like I got three types of grass.
Wash it all thoroughly!
Remove any wilted leaves.
This time I fill cups with dechlorinated water, leaving leaves above the water.
The idea is to grow new leaves underwater as I did with Peace lily and Pothos converting those plants to grow underwater.
It is difficult to remove old leaves from big clusters of grass.
I leave it as it is but water may get brownish.
I keep new samples on a windowsill.
July 9th, 2018
The first samples did not survive.
July 10th, 2018
The second samples grow high.
Remove any wilted leaves and trim the grass.
There are some new leaves grow underwater!
Keep those leaves underwater.
No new leaves on this sample.
Add dechlorinated water.
Cover cups to reduce evaporation.
July 16th, 2018
Add water to keep all new leaves fully submerged underwater.
The new sprouts look healthy!
July 21st, 2018
Old leaves grow fast above water while old submerged leaves wilt.
New submerged leaves grow slowly.
I trim the old leaves and add water weekly.
July 30th, 2018
The samples have been submerged for over a month.
August 1st, 2018
Tannin from old wilted leaves makes the water yellowish.
Here are the new green leaves that sprout and grow underwater.
Remove and trim off all wilted leaves.
I am going to move this grass into a new aquarium for further observation.
In this example, I use one seashell to anchor both plants.
Here it goes into the new nursery.
Also, I add some other land mosses into this nursery.
More about them in future videos ;)
August 3rd, 2018
There are some green sprouts in this sample of grass.
Most of the submerged old leaves wilted.
Water is brownish.
Untangle and remove all wilted leaves and rotten roots.
It leaves me with about a dozen sprouts that grew underwater.
Put them in a larger jar.
Add dechlorinated water.
I populate all my aquariums with seed shrimps.
Make sure plants are submerged.
The grass in the aquarium with fish looks good.
August 15th, 2018
August 21st, 2018
I add pond snails into this nursery.
There are oxygen bubbles on the grass.
September 2nd, 2018
I move this grass with seed shrimps and snails into a larger jar.
One of the grass stems has grown noticeably longer than the others.
September 25th, 2018
This samples of the land grass has been underwater 3 months and counting.
Old leaves wilt as time goes and new leaves seem to be slowly growing.
I will keep you updated.
Have fun and happy aquariums :)

10 Scariest Waters In the World
Most people can’t imagine their vacation without some body of water nearby, be it a lake or an ocean. However, there are waters on our planet that can be deadly for revelers. If you aren’t satisfied with these, watch till the end for a savory bonus.

SUMMARY
- Tides turn the Great Blue Hole into a huge vortex that draws in everything on the surface, while ebbs make it spout huge columns of water. Despite all this, though, there still are many who want to see this hole because Jacques Cousteau himself called it one of the best places for diving on Earth.
- This 30-foot deep natural well with crystal clear water is one of the most dangerous diving places in the world. At the bottom of Jacob’s Well, there are several entrances to a broad network of caves that many are unable to leave.
- Lake Michigan is almost as notorious as the Bermuda Triangle because it’s over this lake that one of the most horrible air crashes in North America occurred for no logical reasons.
- Lake Natron is one of the saltiest and most alkaline lakes on Earth, covered with a salt crust that’s sometimes colored red. The water temperature reaches 120°F (50°C) in certain places, which makes it, along with alkalinity, almost unfit for life. Only three kinds of fish live here, adapting to the extreme conditions.
- The Blue Hole is possibly the most dangerous place for diving in the world as many divers have died in this 400-foot deep cave. Experienced divers say, though, that properly trained people with experience can dive without fear: the cause of death is usually nitrogen narcosis or insufficient air capacity upon ascent.
- The carbon dioxide emitted from the fissures in the bottom of Horseshoe Lake is deadly for everything. The lake was the cause of death of four people, as well as trees growing 100 acres around it. The danger is announced by signs all around.
- This mountain lake located eight hours from the ground may heat up to 198°F (92°C) due to hot air spurts from beneath the ground — they often neighbor with lava. Swimming in the lake is strictly prohibited even if there are no characteristic bubbles on its surface because boiling starts in a matter of seconds.
- Fossil excavation that has been carried out at the head of the Tinto River for more than 3,000 years lead to it being saturated with copper, iron, and heavy metals, with the acidity leaping sky-high.
- Lots of icebergs, wind speeds reaching 80 miles per hour, strong currents, and poor visibility are part of the ordeal that ships going through the Drake Passage must survive.
- This seemingly peaceful lake keeps a deadly secret: there are layers of CO2 in it and 55 billion cubic meters of methane at the bottom. Even the slightest earthquake may cause a huge explosion capable of evaporating over 2 million people living around Kivu.
BONUS: If you ever decide to swim in a river, lake, or just about any other body of water, make sure to check if it is safe to bathe there.
Even places that attract tourists may well be infested with lampreys, hagfish, leeches, or other unpleasant fauna.

Explore the ocean with this NEW under-water Drone called the PowerRay from the company Power Vision. This little guy can hang out underwater for 2 hours without needing to recharge, and can find fish, drop bate, and more importantly take some awesome video with its 4K stabilized camera.
Like I mention in the video, this makes a great underwater tool, BUT I would like it to have a side motor to push it along parallel to a subject that I am trying to film. It is amazing what technology can do. Exploring the Isla De Las mujeres, near Cancun, with an Underwater drone is pretty incredible.

Land Moss for Aquarium Update
Words of gratitude to Rhiannan Thomas for caring and sharing with me at the first giveaway fish meeting
Thank you Rhiannan Thomas!
Among other things, Rhiannan Thomas shared a more efficient way to wash land moss than the one I used previously
April 22nd, 2018
I collect a sample of land moss.
A worm comes as a bonus to feed my fish
I used to wash samples of moss under running tap water - like this.
A more effective way is to put the sample in a jar.
Add some tap water.
Close the jar with a lid.
Shake the jar.
Drain the dirty water from the jar.
Add clean tap water.
Close the jar and shake it.
Repeat it as many times as it takes to get the moss clean.
Washing moss in a jar takes less time and reduces water waste greatly compared to washing moss under running water.
Thank you Rhiannan Thomas!
In my previous video, Land Moss for Aquarium,” I asked for help identifying this moss
Words of gratitude to YouTuber Thành Nguyễn Vĩnh for identifying this moss as Plagiomnium acutum or rose moss!
Thank you Thành Nguyễn Vĩnh!
Put the clean moss in the jar.
Fill it up with dechlorinated water
Cover the jar to reduce evaporation.
Previously, I kept samples of this land moss on a windowsill, exposed to direct sunlight, before moving them to an aquarium with fish.
It also grows without direct sunlight.
Atmospheric air gets trapped initially.
With enough light, those bubbles will be replaced by oxygen produced by the moss.
April 28th, 2018
I keep new samples of moss at least a week underwater, checking daily for bad odor and/ or discoloration - signs of spoiled samples.
This sample seems to be fine.
I am going to anchor this moss.
In this example, I wrap the moss around a rock.
Secure it with cotton sewing thread or fishing line.
I keep the anchored moss underwater in the same nursery, ready for use in aquariums
Have fun and happy aquariums :)
