Its Sanshiro Pond, formally known as Ikutokuen Shinji-ike after the publication of the novel Sanshiro by Soseki Natsume.
In the novel, the pond is depicted as the place where the protagonist first meets the woman he admires.

この日、２０１５．１２．２０は、興福寺（Kofukuji Temple）の発掘調査公開日に巡り合わせ見学、その後、五重塔（Five-story Pagoda）の横を通り、奈良国立博物館（Nara National Museum）の手前を右折して、浮見堂（Ukimido Gazebo）へ至る間、鹿ちゃんと語りかけながらゆっくりとブラリお散歩。浮き見堂で少し休憩して荒池（Ara-ike Pond）へ。
荒池は、ちょうど浮見堂と奈良ホテルの中間地点（直線コースで）。荒池のほとりは、平らな空間が広がる。ここは、東大寺（Todaiji Temple）や春日大社（Kasuga Taisha Shrine）からは少し離れており、人影も少ない。
だが、人目を気にしないで、自由に戯れるにはもってこいの場所。思い思いに自分を演じることが出来る。演劇部のような衣装を着た若者の集団をよく見かける。もちろん鹿たちも歓迎してくれる別天地とも言える。
荒池には、鯉や鴨など水鳥も迎えてくれる。水面に栄える水草の繁殖時期には、鹿たちが池に入り水草をついばむ光景も目にするのだ。
カメラを構える人たちの姿も目にする。水面に映る光景、移りゆく樹々の彩色。ここにはまた熟していく渋柿の色づく風情を味わうことが出来る。
ここからは、残念ながら富士山は見えないけど、夢につながる思いは満喫できる。素晴らしい実りの秋。色ずく景色に心は満たされる。

Transportation in Osaka, Japan:
Now a quick note on transportation in Osaka (大阪市). When it comes to getting around the city, subways and trains are your best bet.
We spent our first few days buying one-way tickets and day passes, which in retrospect was a bit of a headache. The easiest thing to do is to get a prepaid card where you can load money as needed.
Osaka’s version of this card is called Icoca, but you can also use Pasmo and Suica in the city.
