SINGAPORE tour at Arab Quarter and Chinatown | Haji Lane, Sultan Mosque & more
Here's my own Singapore tour at the Arab Quarter (Kampong Glam), visiting Sultan Mosque (Masjid Sultan) and Haji Lane, the famous Arab Street in Singapore city. From there, we take the metro to Chinatown, where we stroll the streets and visit the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. We close the day at Pinnacle@Duxton, a residential building where you can access the rooftop. Lots of travel tips in between to help you plan your visit to Singapore!
Sinapore is certainly among the top South east Asia countries everyone should travel to.

► WHO AM I?
Short answer: I am a Brazilian journalist living in the United States. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged the life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!
Long answer: ????
P.S.: The guy who occasionally appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and is extremely shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ;-)

Arab Street and Haji Lane, Singapore
Arab Street not only refers to a street, but also a neighborhood in Singapore. It is located in Kampong Glam, Singapore downtown. This place offers a very different ambiance from the rest of the country, as it has retained most of its Muslim traditions. Masjid Sultan which means Sultan Mosque in Malay, is a very popular place of worship. We couldn't get in the Mosque, as they don't allow tourists these days.
Haji Lane is yet another popular street, located in the Arab Street neighborhood. It has gained a lot of tourist attraction lately for its Sheesha Bars aka Hookah Cafes. You can buy plenty of Arab & Muslim clothes, traditional oil based perfumes and buy Arabic books here. Middle Eastern restaurants are available in plenty and you can choose between Egyptian, Turkish, Iranian and other restaurants.

Walking Around Haji Lane And Arab Street Singapore - Southeast Asia Tour
Walking Around Haji Lane And Arab Street Singapore - Southeast Asia Tour
Haji Lane
This delightful little walking street in the heart of Kampong Glam is one of the narrowest – as well as prettiest – roads in Singapore. Famed more for its quaint and quirky collection of boutique shops, Haji Lane has become a favourite hangout for all of Singapore’s cool kids, while also attracting a good helping of visitors who venture this way. The colourful graffiti-tagged lane boasts numerous shops, markets stalls, and the odd hip cafe and restaurant, making this compact little street a must-see attraction in Kampong Glam. Find it just of North Bridge Road, a few minutes’ walk from Bugis MRT station.
Arab Street
At the heart of Singapore’s Islamic community is Arab Street, a picturesque and colourful street packed full of boutique shops, tiny restaurants and vendors. The section of road near the stunning Sultan Mosque is closed off to cars all day every day, meaning the whole shopping/dining/sightseeing experience at this part wins extra points for its more laidback and charming atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for some of the best Halal food in town, wanting to get your hands on some quality and exotic fabric, or just want to explore one of Singapore’s prettiest roads, Arab Street is a great bet. Find it adjacent to Haji Lane near Bugis MRT station.
Sultan Mosque (Masjid Sultan)
Sultan Mosque (Masjid Sultan) is a magnificent landmark at the heart of Kampong Glam – Singapore’s ‘Arabic Quarter’. The Islamic place of worship was built in 1824 by Sultan Hussian Shah (the first ever Sultan of Singapore). The impressive complex boasts a series of giant golden domes topping off the main prayer hall, and the outside is adorned in vibrant pastel shades of orange, cream and green, helping it shine even brighter in the strong Singaporean sun.
Along with Chinatown’s Buddha Tooth temple, Sultan Mosque is definitely up there with Singapore’s most impressive religious buildings, both in terms of appearance and sheer size. The main prayer hall can hold up to 5,000 worshippers, while the mosque’s dome base can also be accessed, formed out of hundreds of glass bottles that were donated by devotees as part of the building’s reconstruction. A true testament to the multiculturalism of Singapore, authorities often block off the road during peak times to allow worshippers space to mingle around the mosque. The surrounding cafes and restaurants on Muscat Street and Arab Street also have a strict rule of not selling any alcohol (although these pleasant alfresco spots are still well worth a visit for their Middle Eastern menus, good coffee – and shisha pipes!
If you’re around Bugis Street, the short walk to Kampong Glam (the Arab Quarter) should be high up on your priorities list. Combining a visit here with a quick look at this fantastic mosque is highly recommended too, even if it’s just for a quick photo-op in between your shopping or cafe-hopping. A couple of roads down, you’ll also find the fantastic Haji Lane, which does not enforce the no-alcohol policy and is also well-known for its range of boutiques and bars.

Best Singapore Food - GIANT Murtabak at Singapore Zam Zam!
Singapore Zam Zam is one of the best restaurants to eat murtabak:
►Subscribe to my channel for more videos:
Located across the street from Sultan Mosque at the corner of Arab Street and Bridge Road is the legendary Singapore Zam Zam, one of the most famous places to eat murtabak the entire city. They are nearly always busy, and while they do have a full menu of Indian dishes, including rice and curry, they are most well known for their murtabak.
Originally ar Arab food, murtabak in Singapore is often a combination of Arab and Indian flavors and cooking methods. The process begins with a ball of dough with is pounded out into a very thin sheet by tossing and flapping the dough. Once it’s paper thin, a mixture of spices and minced meat (depending upon what murtabak version you ordered) is mixed up into the middle of the dough. Next, one of the most important things to add is an egg - and at Zam Zam he expertly tossed in the egg, then mixed it up with his hand so it almost immediately mixed. The next step it was wrapped up into a package so the dough was covering all sides, and then it was tossed onto a hot skillet filled with oil where it deep fried and fried until crispy and golden brown on all sides.
I decided to go with two different types of murtabak, one filled with beef and one filled with chicken, and they were both served with a curry dipping sauce on the side. There were five different sizes of the murtabak that you could order as well, and I chose the medium size, but we got two of them to share. Both of the murtabaks were extraordinarily delicious, filled with a combination of minced meat and chicken, plus egg, lots of onions, and some spices. And having the bowl of curry sauce on the side to add to each bite, elevated it to make it even better. I thought the chicken murtabak was the best, but the curry sauce served with the beef one was better. So they were both delicious.
Singapore Zam Zam
Address: 697-699 N Bridge Rd, Singapore
Open hours: 7 am – 11 pm daily
Prices: Depending on what size you order, I had the medium for $8 SGD per murtabak
How to get there: Take the MRT to Bugis station, walk towards Arab St., and Singapore Zam Zam is across the street from Sultan Mosque.

SINGAPORE | Haji Lane and Arab Street
Took a short walk down Beach Road from Golden Mile Tower, and I found a hidden gem: Haji Lane. The small alley was filled with graffiti and tonnes of hipster-ish cafes and boutiques.
Arab Street was right next to Haji Lane, and it also houses one of the biggest mosque in Singapore. The area is also thriving with fabric shops and some tourists attraction.

Haji Lane is in the Kampong Glam neighborhood of Singapore. Young people frequent the shophouses along this lane for the independent fashion boutiques and Middle Eastern cafes.
Haji Lane got its name because of the businesses here. There were many Arab pilgrim-brokers who would arrange the haj for Muslims in Singapore and from the nearby islands such as Java. [wiki]
Arab Street (Chinese: 阿拉伯街; Malay: Jalan Arab) was the name of a road and neighborhood in Singapore. There are two explanations behind the name. The first one is that the area was owned by an Arab merchant, Syed Ali bin Mohamed Al Junied and that it was the site of an Arab kampong, hence the name Arab Street.[1] The Chinese referred the street as Jiau a koi Javanese, in the view of the Javanese who used to be the majority inhabitants of the area. Spices, textiles, basketry items and songkoks are sold along this row of shophouses with five-foot way at Arab Street. In Tamil, Arab Street is known as pukadai sadkku (flower shops street), because of shops selling homegrown flowers, lime and other goods sold by Javanese women. In 1889, a huge fire occurred. [wiki]
