Family Travel in Brazil – First Time American Visitors

It is safe to bring your family travel to Brazil? Watch American grandparents tell you their true opinion. Our family came all the way from Nevada and Utah to Salvador, Bahia Brazil. We spent 9 days showing them around Salvador and they loved it. We went to Salvador’s historical district called Pelourinho, Elevador Lacerda, Igreja de São Francisco, and Tuesday night Olodum drumming in Pelourinho. We also ate some great food from street venders. Salvador has the most beautiful beaches, markets and great shopping. Grandpa’s favorite place was Pelourinho but the kids favorite place was Big Jump! Where we had a sleep over and played all night. Overall my family was very impressed, happy, safe, well fed and entertained. They love Brazil and want to come back. Video 100

Today we went on a 'Free walking tour' - guided by the excellent Rocco. But before we could set off - we had to wait out a peaceful protest from the youth of Sao Paulo!

The walking tour [ was excellent and we'd highly recommend them!

4 Best Places to Visit in Rio - 1 Month Update

Number 3 was our favorite. Rio is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world! I love being surrounded by thick, rich, green vegetation everywhere we go. The plant life is so incredible, we all just stop and stare. All these places are great and easy to enjoy with the family. Video 8
1. Copacabana Beach. One of the most famous beaches in the world. It is beautiful, perfect for surfing and sun bathing. The wide sidewalk is lined with incredible black and white cobblestone. Great for scenic walks.
2. Parque Lage (where Snoop Dogg and Pharrell filmed their video “Beautiful”) Parque Enrique Lage is a public park in the city of Rio de Janeiro, located in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood at the foot of the Corcovado. The land was formerly the residence of industrialist Enrique Lage and his wife, singer Gabriella Besanzoni. We also enjoyed playing at a playground on the perminses where we saw monkeys in the trees.
3. The Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden or Jardim Botânico is located at the Jardim Botânico district in the Zona Sul (South Zone) of Rio de Janeiro. The Botanical Garden shows the diversity of Brazilian and foreign flora. There are numerous greenhouses. The garden also houses monuments of historical, artistic and archaeological significance. The 140-hectare park lies at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain, far below the right arm of the statue of Christ the Redeemer and contains more than 6,000 different species of tropical and subtropical plants and trees, including 900 varieties of palm trees.
4. The Vista Chinesa (Chinese Belvedere). It’s in the same neighborhood as Jardim Botânico and the Parque Nacional & Floresta da Tijuca. It has a beautiful traditional Chinese structure overlooking the amazing views of Rio.

Faber Marcos Johnson Görresen, born in June 23, 1826 in the Norwegian city of Trondhein with over 73 friends were traveling to California, North America, when the ship has suffered damage and bore away at the Port of Rio de Janeiro, breaking the contract in which launched searching for gold discovered by James Marschall settler in January 1848 on the Sacramento River.

Unable to continue their journey were invited by the Hamburg Company , which was recruiting stakeholders for the implementation of Dona Francisca Colony. Accepting the challenge he disembarked at the destination along with settlers from Germany, on March 9, 185.

Having already passed through the city of São Francisco do Sul and noted its development, he has decided to build his business in Babitonga Street, corner with Dr. Luiz Gualberto, until he was transferred to the Big House that he had built according to his taste and desire, in which he has installed in 1873 his business on the ground floor and his residence on the first floor of his sumptuous Big House.

Today the impressive construction is preserved by his descendants (grandchildren and great grandchildren) and is one of the most important architectonic and historic building of historical city of São Francisco do Sul.

Best Brazilian Birthday Gift

What’s the best gift to buy a foreigner? Brazil has many amazing souvenirs from jewelry, pottery, African Goddess statues to traditional clothing, musical instruments and unique spices. There is one very useful gift I know my husband would love. A big machete!!! This would be a more useful gift if we lived in the Amazon rain forests but we will be using it to open coconuts so we can get the delicious meat out of the center. Chris and the kids were pleasantly surprised by the machete. The next day we rushed off to buy coconuts!
Chris’s birthday was fun. We worked at our trampoline park in the morning, went to a very nice lunch and then spent time with the kids that night. The kids wanted to surprise their dad with a special treat. They chose American root beer floats. Brazil does not have root beer so we used orange Fanta. Orange floats are also common in the states because they taste like orange cream cicles. Video 57
