Ararat, Victoria
Ararat is a major regional centre in the western districts of Victoria, near the Wimmera, and not far from the Grampians National Park. It is about 200 km from Melbourne by road. Ararat sometimes claims to be the only town/major settlement in Australia founded by Chinese, and indeed in 1857 Chinese miners discovered the 'Canton lead', the richest single alluvial gold deposit ever discovered in Australia. Following this a large settlement sprung up at Ararat, so named after nearby Mount Ararat.
The video includes the main street, Barkly Street, the Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre which commemorates the town's Chinese heritage, and the Ararat Cemetery. Ararat has an old gaol and former lunatic asylum, and several locations are reputedly haunted.

Ararat, Australia's Golden Town Dies! Pt.2
What does a Town do when both its major public and private sector employers close shop around the same time?
The town dies, people leave in the search for work, the community is destroyed and its people demoralized.
This is what happened to Ararat in the early 1990's.
All up, roughly one thousand public sector jobs were lost from the closure of the Psychiatric Hospital, the Railways and Telecom.
A downturn in manufacturing was also the deathknell for the town's biggest private sector employer, Packard/CTA.
Watch this short documentary to learn how the town was affected

Grampians National Park
Visit Halls Gap - the heart of the Grampians National Park in western Victoria - wildlife, scenery, and nature, shops, wineries. The Grampians have been a favorite haunt for many Victorians over two centuries and when all around is enduring rapid change how comforting to know some things stay the same.
The mountains continue to inspire; the mossy dells cooled by overhanging canopy; an enchantment of rivulets gently trickling over contoured rocks; the majestic views taking away the breath; the fresh clean air zings with a cacophony of bird song; kangaroos forage for a taste of new green shoots; tree frogs by the dozen cling to the outside of windows; the echidna doggedly progressing in search of rich insects; emus inquisitively peering through the gums.
The past presence of the very first Australians makes an ethereal feeling of spirituality weaving in between crevices of these ancient rocky crags. Its all still here for you to enjoy and bring you slowly back to normality when times get tough.

Grampians, Victoria
The rugged mountain ranges of the Grampians National Park mark the centre of this region and rise out of the rural plains of the Wimmera in north-west Victoria. The impressive ranges are renowned for their unspoilt natural beauty and feature lookouts with stunning panoramic views, picturesque waterfalls, ancient Aboriginal rock art, colourful wildflower displays and abundant native wildlife.
The region also offers some of the finest walking in Victoria and is one of the main centres for rock climbing and abseiling, offering both challenging and easier climbs on various rock faces, including the famed Mt Arapiles. Other popular activities include fishing and canoeing in the region's system of inland lakes and rivers.
Wine buffs are spoiled for choice on the Great Grape Road, where renowned wineries such as Seppelt, Best's, Mt Langi Ghiran and Montara offer tastings at cellar doors. There's also an abundance of local produce from ewe's milk, cheese and olives to locally sourced beef and lamb which features on menus throughout the region.
The town of Halls Gap is picturesquely situated in the heart of the Grampians National Park with wonderful views of the Wonderland Range and Mt William Range, while other tempting locations are dotted around the edge of the park.
Explore historic gold rush town such as Ararat known for its Gum San Museum that reveals the history of Chinese gold miners, or Stawell, home of the prestigious annual Stawell Gift foot race. Ararat, Victoria ~ the comeback kid!
youtube travel videos
Mark Shea returned to Ararat after living away for fifteen years and was amazed at the turnaround in the Town after the crushing blow of industry shutdown.
Through community spirit the Town has managed to find new ways to continue and thrive.
Tourism and Training are two initiatives that have helped put the Township back on its feet.
When a town loses its main employment source, change for the better doesn't occur overnight. There must be a belief in the town's people that, step by step, things will improve. And no better example of this can be seen in the work of the Ararat Regional Development Board. The original Board was made up of twelve business leaders from fields as diverse as manufacturing to agriculture. Its work was instrumental in getting Ararat back on its feet after the staggering blow of industry shutdown. The Board worked tirelessly behind the scenes to awaken Ararat from its punch drunk state. Some of the members have mentioned an amazing synergy in the group. In times of trouble leaders must step forward, and the Board, shoulder to shoulder, took on the challenge to lift Ararat out of the doldrums. Some people are ahead of their time, their ideas even grander than the ideas of their own governments. Don Reynolds had a dream to establish strong ties with China and to build a museum celebrating the unique fact that Ararat was founded by Chinese gold prospectors. China, the sleeping giant, is awakening, its people starting to experience prosperity. Slowly, slowly, like the trickling stream where gold was first found in Ararat, Chinese visitors are starting to arrive. In twenty years, Don Reynolds may well be viewed as a visionary. The most astounding story of Ararat's turnaround comes from within the Community itself. When word was put out that JWard, the old bluestone Gaol and former Institute for the Criminally Insane could be bulldozed, the townspeople joined together to protect their history. A group of volunteers decided to try opening JWard to the public as a tourist attraction in the hope of saving it. Success was theirs, and to this day JWard is still run by volunteers and is one of the State's premier tourist attractions.

The Desecration of South West Australia's Most Important Aboriginal Sites & Rare Biodiversity
A Short Documentary on my time discovering this one and only piece of real Aboriginal History in the district of Dumbleyung, Western Australia.
This is a place littered with the rich history of an ancient Noongar Aboriginal past, and a site containing much rich, rare and beautiful flora and fauna, located in the District of Dumbleyung, Great Southern Region of Western Australia.
A perfect example of white man not seeking any input from local aboriginal custodians, not seeking permission for the clearing of land, the disrespecting of mother nature in an area already destroyed by land clearing, salinity and soil erosion.
This place is Meteorite Island, an Oasis in the middle of a vast plain of death.
Now at the extreme risk of being destroyed for the sake of the Yellow sand being mined by the landowner and the Shire of Dumbleyung... please read my comments to this below.
I call this Sacred place Meteorite Island... all of the below videos are made here (But not all!)...I ask my viewers and subscribers to please watch and please understand and you'll see why it is so special... the Shire of Dumbleyung and the Land Owner is Digging up the Island to mine the yellow sand for surfacing gravel roads... disgusting, this sand contains thousands of ancient aboriginal tools and no doubt the remains of ancient aboriginal Noongar people!
The Island contains an amazing variety of flora and fauna, snakes, reptiles, frogs and hundreds, thousands more... this flora and fauna is stuck on this island... surrounded by a desolate dead, yet beautiful salt pan, there is no leaving this island, the generations of animals, flora and fauna have been stuck on this island since the surrounding land as cleared by pioneer farmers in the 1900's.... please read exactly hat I write below, and then you'll see ho sacred this place is!
It also contains the only remaining piece of real freshwater swamp land left in the Dumbleyung District, surrounded by ancient paperbark trees... yes real freshwater swamps.... you show me a freshwater swamp in Dumbleyung ... there are none others!
YOU MUST READ MY EMAILS BELOW TO UNDERSTAND AND TO SEE HAT IS ON THIS ISLAND!
