Welcome to the Arattupuzha Pooram, one of the oldest temple festivals of the world! Pooram is held at the Sree Sastha Temple in Thrissur, Kerala, India for a period of seven days each year. Believers say that at this 'conclave', all Gods and Goddesses gather during the time period of the Pooram. Known as Mother of all Poorams.

ആറാട്ടുപുഴ ശ്രീശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഇല്ലംനിറ ഭക്തിനിർഭരമായി.
രാവിലെ 8 മണിക്ക് നമസ്കാര മണ്ഡപത്തിൽ വെച്ച് ഗണപതി പൂജയോടെയാണ് ഇല്ലംനിറയുടെ ചടങ്ങുകൾ ആരംഭിച്ചത്. തുടർന്ന് ഇല്ലി, നെല്ലി, അത്തി, ഇത്തി, അരയാൽ, പേരാൽ എന്നിവയുടെ ഇലകൾ മണ്ഡപത്തിൽ സമർപ്പിച്ച് ലക്ഷ്മിപൂജക്ക് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു.
ലക്ഷ്മിപൂജയുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ അരിമാവ് കൊണ്ട് അണിഞ്ഞ് നാക്കിലയിൽ തയ്യാറാക്കി ഗോപുരത്തിൽ വച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പൊൻകതിരുകൾ മേൽ ശാന്തി തീർത്ഥം തളിച്ച് ശുദ്ധി വരുത്തി. കുത്തുവിളക്കിന്റേയും മണിനാദത്തിന്റേയും ശംഖനാദത്തിന്റേയും നൂറ് കണക്കിന് ഭക്തരുടേയും അകമ്പടിയോടെ മേൽശാന്തിമാരും കീഴ്ശാന്തിമാരും കതിർക്കറ്റകൾ ശിരസ്സിലേറ്റി ക്ഷേത്ര മതിൽക്കകത്ത് പ്രദക്ഷിണം വെച്ച് കതിരുകളെ ചുറ്റിനകത്തേക്ക് എഴുന്നെള്ളിച്ചു.
ചുറ്റിനകത്ത് പ്രദക്ഷിണം ചെയ്തു കതിർക്കറ്റകളെ നമസ്കാര മണ്ഡപത്തിൽ ഇറക്കി എഴുന്നെള്ളിച്ചു. അവിടെ വെച്ച് ലക്ഷമിപൂജ പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ ശേഷം പൂജിച്ച കതിരുകൾ ശ്രീകോവിലിൽ ശാസ്താവിന് സമർപ്പിച്ചു. ക്ഷേത്ര പത്തായപ്പുരയിലും നെല്ലറയിലും മറ്റും കതിരുകൾ സമർപ്പിച്ചതിനു ശേഷം നെൽക്കതിരുകൾ ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് പ്രസാദമായി നൽകി.
പ്രസാദമായി ലഭിക്കുന്ന കതിരുകൾ സ്വന്തം ഗൃഹങ്ങളിൽ നിലവിളക്കിന്റെ സാന്നിദ്ധ്യത്തിൽ സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നത് ഐശ്വര്യ പ്രദമാണ് എന്നാണ് ഭക്തരുടെ വിശ്വാസം. മേൽശാന്തിമാരായ നടുവത്തു മന നാരായണൻ നമ്പൂതിരിയും ഏറന്നൂർ സംഗമേശ്വരൻ നമ്പൂതിരിയും ചടങ്ങുകൾക്ക് മുഖ്യകാർമ്മികത്വം വഹിച്ചു.
ആറാട്ടുപുഴ പൂരപ്പാടം കർഷക സംഘത്തിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ പൂരപ്പാടത്ത് വിളയിച്ചെടുത്ത കതിർ കറ്റകളാണ് ഇക്കുറിയും ആറാട്ടുപുഴ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഇല്ലം നിറക്ക് എടുത്തത്.

Part 2.Thekkottirakkam (തെക്കോട്ടിറക്കം) of Paramekkaav (പാറമേക്കാവ് ) elephants.Thrissur Pooram is called 'the pooram of all poorams' (festival). It is the biggest of all poorams held in Kerala state. Thrissur Pooram is celebrated at the Vadakkunnathan Temple, situated on a hillock (Thekkinkadu maidan) in the centre of the city.The richly decorated elephant, as seen during the Thrissur pooram, is now globally recognized, and its association with Kerala. On the pooram day, fifty (50) or more elephants pass through the very center of Thrissur town, the Vadakkunnathan temple. Processions of richly caparisoned elephants accompanied by percussion ensembles from various neighbouring temples culminate at the Vadakumnathan temple. The most impressive[weasel words] processions are those Thriuvambadi Bhagavathy from the Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple and the Paramekkavu Bhagavathi from Paramekkavu temple. The celebrations which last for over 36 hours includes parasol displays (Malayalam: കുടമാറ്റം) and firework shows.
Sakthan Thampuran unified the 10 temples situated around Vadakkunnathan temple and organized the celebration of Thrissur Pooram as a mass festival. Sakthan Thampuran ordained these temples into two groups, Western group and Eastern group. The Western group as Thiruvambady consisting of Kanimangalam, Laloor, Ayyanthole, Nethilakkavu and the Thiruvambady temple, as the main one. The Eastern group called as Paramekkavu, consisting in addition to Paramekkavu temple, Karamukku, Chembukavu, Choorakottukavu and Panamukkamppilly. The pooram was to be centered around the Vadakkunnathan temple, with all these temples sending their poorams (the whole procession), to pay obeisance to the Shiva, the presiding deity. The Thampuran is believed to have chalked out the program and the main events of the Thrissur pooram festival.

Arattupuzha is a culturally significant village located in Thrissur district of Kerala. This village, about 15 km from the town of Thrissur is renowned for the annual pooram festival called Arattupuzha Pooram held in April/May.
The Sree Sastha Temple, dedicated to Sage Vasishta, which is believed to be more than 3000 years old and its premises are the venue for the festivities. It is believed that during the festival period, Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity at the Sree Sastha Temple is visited by gods and goddesses of the neighbouring villages.
The uniqueness of this festival is the ceremonial processions carrying the images of the deities of 41 neighbouring temples to this village.

14. 23 deities from different temples are brought here and worshiped creating a magnificent visual treat for the believers
15. It is believed that the presiding deity is visited by Gods and Goddesses of the neighboring villages during the festival
16. The seventh day of the pooram witnesses the percussion ensemble of Sastha, which will also have caparisoned elephants and brightly lit traditional temple torches called ‘theevetti’
17. By next day, early morning, the elephants carrying deities of nearby temples are made to the lineup in the adjoining paddy field
18. The energizing music of Panchavadyam, Pacharimelam, and Pandimelam amplifies the excitement of the atmosphere
19. By sunrise, the elephants carrying deities from neighboring temples are taken to the nearby river for the Aarattu ceremony
20. It is a ceremonial cleansing process in which the idol is immersed in the river and is accompanied by the chanting of mantras and floral offerings
21. The idol of Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity of the Sree Sastha Temple at Arattupuzha is the last to undergo the Arattu
22. The idols are then taken to their respective temples after the Arattu ceremony
