Serntha poomangalam ~ Shukra (Venus) sthala in Nava kailayam
Serntha poomangalam. This has been the 9th sthala, which has represented the planet Venus, which is also called as Shukra, in Tamil language. Sage Romasar, after having consecrated the 8 Lingams, at Papanasam, Cheranmadevi, kodaganallur, Kunnathur, Murappanadu, Srivaikundam, Thenthiruperai, and at Rajapathy, one by one, at last had reached here, at Serntha poomangalam, as the last, and the 9th lotus flower had docked here, on the bank of the river Thamirabarani.
Sage Romasar, after having consecrated the 9th lingam, at Serntha poomangalam, had dedicated the lingam, to the planet Venus, which has been also called as Shukra, in Tamil language. After having consecrated these 9 lingams, along the bank of the river Thamirabarani, sage Romasar had been given the opportunity of worshiping lord Shiva with goddess Parvathi in their real form and the sage Romasar had been given with the salvation of immortality.
The 9th lotus flower, out of the nine lotus flowers, which were dropped on the stream of the river Thamirabarani, at its origin, had docked on the bank of the river Thamirabarani, here at Serntha poomangalam, which has been very near to the place, called as Punnakayal, where the river Thamirabarani, has its reach with the sea. Here in this estuary, where the river current meets with the tide of the sea, the great sage Agasthiyar and the king of the sea, both had taken the holy bath and had worshiped lord Shiva.
The devotees, who are in the worship of lord Muruga at Thiruchendur, just only by walk, at first, have taken holy bath here, at the estuary of Punnakayal and then only, they would prefer to take bath in the sea of Thiruchendur. Here, as like the other Shiva temples, the functions like Aaruthra dharisanam, which fall under the Tamil month of margazhi, and the brahmotsavam, which fall under the Tamil month of Chithirai, have been celebrating in a grand manner.
Here, the presiding deity has been called as Kailasanathar, and the goddess has been residing with the name of Azhagiya ponnammai. Both the god and goddess have been enshrined towards east, and south respectively. Upon the tower of the sanctum, Kubera, the deity of wealth, with his consorts, sculptured with riding on a elephant, could have been a very rare, and unusual scene. After having worshiped lord Kailasanathar, and the goddess Azhagiya ponnammai, one should do the worship of Kuberan, for what, he, or she could have been gifted with a wealthy life, thereafter.
